QUOTE FOR DOUBLE TRUTH you mean there should be a ground command for a TK ensenga? That would be pretty slick. I've mentioned this before elsewhere, but I think there should be an alternate input for mist canceling so you can do it like Order-Sol... That way it's always automatically the fastest possible MC. *sigh* wishful thinking.

Real quick, what's "GB"? Guard Bar? I do agree that the emergent style for Johnny is as you wrote above. That's actually the first time I've seen it explained so concisely. The things working against people for the style is that those combos are highly situational. KJT>KJ combos already have incredibly tricky spacing, which is different for much of the cast. And as you mentioned, it's extremely execution heavy - I find myself missing an MC and getting a MF right in the middle of my pressure... then factor in the different timings for MC at MFlvl1, 2, and 3, and it just compounds the problem. To be quite honest, I'm banking on a new iteration of GG where Johnny (if he's in it! - christ, if he's not, I'm not playing it) will hopefully get retooled to be a little less situational. They need to rethink his moves' execution, as they can really simplify a lot of it. Much like the way David Sirlin has simplified some inputs in Super SF Turbo HD Remix to be easier, Arc System Works needs to do the same for Johnny. Doing so will give the player more room to concentrate on pressure and ...you know, fighting their opponent.

Just a couple of thoughts on ways to mix up your MF on that Jam... No one's mentioned 2S, which is a great normal to lay down on a Jam (or Slayer!) waking up into the mist. Jam players can either parry or backdash, but in both cases they're expecting a certain timing. Instead of letting out that MF as soon as you can, go into the MF stance and hold it for just a little longer before letting go. (EDIT: haha, already mentioned above) You can also just do the low MF instead, which might not lead into another mist setup but will get you plenty of damage. Like Chomite said - mix it up a little and Jam will stop being cocky enough to try to parry.

omg truth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfLQHhU0Vm4 Patience is such a huge part of fighting Axl. Same goes for Potemkin, Venom, Baiken, and ... that's all the comes to mind. Testament? Whatever, either way, don't be in such a rush to close the gap between you and Axl. Let him spam that stupid chain thing all he wants. Once you DO get in, you just want to make it count, and keep him close if you can.

Practice. It is not based on chance. Just as a note, if you used your second jump before RCing the ensenga, you won't be able to airdash or jump. throw > j.k > j.s > dj.k > j.s > j.d > ensenga Using KJ FRC though, will reset your jump properties in the air and let you either airdash or jump one extra time, like so: throw > j.k > j.s > dj.k > KJ FRC > j.s > dj.k > j.s > j.d > ensenga OR throw > j.k > j.s > dj.k > KJ FRC > j.s > airdash > j.k > j.s > j.d > ensenga (these both may not connect on some characters) Also, discussion on airdashing after an RC'd ensenga should probably go in the general Johnny questions thread here: http://dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3017

There are some situations where landing the 1-hit naturally (ie w/out RC) is really difficult or near-impossible. This is often true with characters where 1-hits are really tricky to begin with, like Sol and Order Sol. If your opponent has under 1/3 of their life left, you have plenty of tension, and you've got a level 2 MF or tension left over for an FRC or Jackhound, then I think it's worth it. As Camo said, it's pretty much 100% guaranteed to get you the 1-hit w/ RC. Advantages that I can think of are that you have TONS of time to put out the mist before your opponent gets up. I'm not sure it's worth it if you're not gonna put the mist on them or you're not ready to really lay on the damage. EDIT: Whoops! My post is strictly about RCing the first hit of ensenga.

As Chomite suggested, just lower the number of hits. For the combo you posted above, I'd suggest taking out the j.P at the beginning. If I'm desperate for damage or have a lot of tension, I usually go ahead with the KJ FRC, but whether it's worth it or not is debatable. I use the 6K FRC often to feint into throws, but a player that's quick enough to mash out a throw when Johnny gets too close might catch you. It's good to use in the middle of pressure tho. *shrug* I like it.

First off, you can't SB on wake-up. Period. You need to Standing Instant Block the shield thingy and then backdash. MAKE SURE YOU STAND-BLOCK. Block-stun is longer when you crouch-block. If it's timed poorly, then you can usually just hold up+back and you'll jump out of there. My suggestion would be to just give that a shot a few times, and if you find that it doesn't work, then you're playing a Pot player with decent timing for the loop. If they start timing slidehead to catch you just as you wake up, then you need to get the timing down for reversal backdash.

Taking a look at the screenshot of Karas below his character portrait... Is it just me, or is he hitting SEAN FROM 3S??? wtf. Sean? haha, maybe it's just an alternate color for Ryu.

BAH! Just a freak occurrence, then. Thanks for the explanation 4r5, and for testing it out Kadius. And yeah, I know. 2nd round of that vid is fail.

http://page.freett.com/abcrankingbattle/movie.htm 2nd link from the bottom, CPO (PO) vs Kid (JO). 00:07. WTF. Is Johnny considered off the ground during the 2nd half of his 2D???????????????????????? Can someone confirm this on the console version?

shit that will stuff slidehead: 2S 2HS 2D There's a proper (and different) timing/distance for all of these, but they work. Coin will get you screwed (though if you survive the aftermath, you have a lvl2 MF). 5HS will also whiff unless you time it REALLY well and are the right distance. I, like qwerty, also often simply jump to avoid slidehead. If pot does 2 slideheads in a row, though, the 2nd one might catch you if you do an ensenga or divine blade on the way down. However! If pot times a slidehead to catch you when you're landing, good ways to hang in the air a little to avoid the slidehead are ensenga, divine blade, or air dash. Another excellent (I would venture to say VITAL) way to avoiding a slidehead is a well-timed ground dash. Back dash that shizzle! If you're not ready to unleash on pot with a sick combo (ie. you don't have the tension, mist finer levels, or the BALLS haha), then you'll probably want to backdash. But at the right distance, a well placed forward dash over slidehead can put you in an excellet position to TOTALLY RAEP.

To each their own. I don't think anyone's going to hold it against you if you don't like the way he plays. I used to be really conservative with my coins (the way Omito is) and hated watching DC toss away all that damage potential just to be unique or flashy. But then the rest of the players in my area kept asking why I kept all my change when the coin is so good... and seeing DC play well even -without- coins, I kind of changed my play style. Whenever I see a Johnny match-vid, I root for the Johnny no matter WHO's playing him. Every time I see a Johnny lose, a piece of my soul dies.
-
omg Sanma is going back to Johnny? I can't wait to see how he plays him in AC. I think once DC gets all that change out of his pockets he plays really smart. Better than BLEED? Debatable, though at an obvious disadvantage without lv2 MFs. I really love watching how different Johnny players play. Everyone uses him so differently. Maybe we should start a new thread? haha talk about what Johnny playstyles are out there and look a vids to help people pick up good habits and strings/combos? That'd be interesting.
-
haha, not a big deal. Just nitpicking. :3 In my personal opinion, I think DC and Omito are the best of the Johnny players that are most prominent. Keep in mind that there are a LOT of really good players that we don't know about or don't show up in vids. I think BLEED is an excellent player. His Johnny has a LOT of momentum, and that can be pretty intimidating for the opponent, but he rushes into things a little too much for my tastes. DC is the same way, but plays much smarter, IMO. Omito, as you said, is very careful and patient. His defense is really strong and he almost never wastes coins or lvl2/3 mist finers. Suzume is THE HOTNESS, but he doesn't show up in tourney results (or at least, tournies that have been recorded). Looking at results, though, I've seen BLEED make it a lot further than any other Johnny player, albeit largely in team tournaments. Anyone seen a Johnny player named Hiro play? I think he's really good too. And anyone remember Matsushin?? wtf happened to that guy?
-
Neither Jonio or Omito are new. I've been watching Omito since #R first came out.

You'll wanna watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mwIKWLShuU And yeah, I wish Suzume was in more vids. He's my favorite Johnny player. Him and Omito.

Holy shit. All of those vids just came out in high quality. Here's the post. Thank rtl42 for the links: http://dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=279476&postcount=533

Depends on the person - how much they practice a certain combo (and against which characters most), or how often they play against certain characters in matches... certain things just become mindless because you do them so often, while others only come up every once in a while and you have to actively think about them. Johnny's combos have become very character specific in AC - moreso than ever before IMO - and you either need to practice against almost every character, or you need to be in a community where every character is played.
-
Yeah, I have no way to record anything really. :p Maybe if I find some simple ones, I'll just pm you.
-
Great vid! Can't wait for the next. Didn't know you could dash-jump combo in the corner for the 1-hit on Anji. I'd love to contribute what I can to these. Should I just PM you with any 1-hits I discover that are easy?
