That reminds me, does anyone from Spring Hill or New Port Richey area need a ride? Tampa too, since I'll most likely have to pass by there anyhow.
-
Ah there are two types then. Correct me if I'm wrong, but theoretically you can block the first move by pressing 1 or 4, and then let go of the button and you will continue to block as long as they don't use a frame trap, right? So then, as long as you block the first move you can let go and then try to instant block by pressing 1 or 4 at the right times? Sorry for the dumb question, but I've never really been given a good explanation how to instant block during pressure.
-
I played with some guys from the local Tampa scene yesterday. Yeah, 2D doesn't work real well as a frame trap anymore... I kept getting punished after 2D. I found it's better to run on intermittent pressure, using 2D and other things to gradually break their guard. People seem to forget that 2D breaks primer. That said, this is going to sound dumb, but how do you instant block? Do you have to press barrier block within a time frame, or do you have to press 4 or 1?

Lol, harsh? I got my ass kicked by you and Adonis, but that's about the farthest "harsh" would go as a description. XD I had fun, so I'll probably come to casuals as often as I can. Sorry I had to leave early: I've got a club meeting at 7 every other Saturday. I also had to leave a little early so I could pick up something from walmart for the meeting. @_@ Well, I didn't really talk to you during the time I was there, but you didn't seem to be too much of an asshole IRL.
-
Today was fun. It was nice meeting a bunch of you, and I might've picked up a few useful things at least.

Hey Kuru and Azure, I'll be on in like 45 minutes
-
Trying real hard. It's a bad habit for me to just mash C when I can't decide what move to use on someone blocking. Unless you watched my uploads, you don't even know how bad it used to be. XD
-
Can I play with you guys too? I'd like more practice as well.
-
That's hard to do without a good understanding of all the character's moves. Personally, I use netplay to learn block strings. I lose all the time, but I'm getting much better at defense because of it. Save your replays, and see which moves broke through your blockstring at which points. I realize, after saying this, that he was asking about playing alone, so I suppose this doesn't help in that. XD I don't use the CPU for training block strings because they're uber-predictable. They pretty much use the same strings over and over, and when those fail they use continual cross-ups.

Naw, not bad at all. Still looking for people who need rides though. :P
-
That's what I thought, although I hear there's a $10 door fee.
-
I meant Winterfest, my bad. They both have CEO in the name. :P
-
Hey guys, does CEO have an entry fee, or is it a casual tournament? Just curious.

Honestly, why even name it something like AnimeEVO? If people from DL are going to band together to make something like this, shouldn't it be named after DL? I mean after all, this site is pretty much dedicated to Anime FGs, and it would sound less weabooish and possibly attract more people. That said, who here actually has experience in organizing space and structure of large events? -
Thanks for being reasonable. What time? And do you need me to bring an extra copy of Extend?
-
I find it funny that you assume I'm NOT actively practicing and trying to adjust. Doesn't mean it doesn't annoy the shit out of me and that I don't want to vent. Again, no specifics, and without an address or a phone number I won't bother driving to the area. Say ye, a Hakumen player. IIRC Hakumen is now top tier. Coincidentally, there's not much below Jin. Yeah, Tsubaki players have had it rough. "Time I spend"? Seriously, it takes like 2 minutes and a few measly lines to write what my beef with the changes are. You know what? Fuck you. I've put forth plenty effort. If you want more people to show up for things, don't treat them like shit. Everyone wants to improve, including me. If you want effort, how about the hundreds of hours I spent over break learning my CSII BnBs better and learning pressure and defense? How about the 4 hours I spent practicing last night? With an attitude like yours, you're just pushing people away from the scene.

I lol'd. Well played, good sir.

I still feel this way. I want to be a wizard too, but lest some day a large burly and bearded man comes into my room saying "YER A WIZARD JYO", I can't help but wonder if it's even possible. I can't help but occasionally feel there's some natural talent with these games that I simply do not possess. -
No. I was under the impression that the corner DP loop's 5B link is actually easier now, given that I can do it in Extend, but not CSII. As far as what I was complaining about: It's not timing alone, it's the tiny ass dash. But I digress. Again, I'm not going to change main. Been playing Jin since CT, and I don't plan to ever stop. I have, and have never been told anything about location.
-
They made Sekka > 5C > 2D a bitch and a half to pull off. I've been using that since forever, and I really don't like it being changed. It really fucks with Jin's midscreen game. The changes to 5C make it a lot easier to stick people into a corner, which is all fine and well, but I don't like my basic midscreen combo starters being given such tight timing requirements. Are there even casuals this Saturday, or no? Also, I'm not complaining about the 45-60 minute drive to Tampa. I make that nearly daily, so that's not an issue. But Orlando and shit? That's a little excessive for me, but I'll go places that far occasionally. Doesn't mean I enjoy spending a full tank of gas to do it (after running some calculations, that's what it'd be about most likely. Keep in mind I have an 18 gallon tank.)
-
I actually live in NPR, and HIGEKING sounds like he needs a lift at least to Tampa. Someone earlier was saying that their car couldn't fit too many more people. I think that may have been pastey, but I can't remember and am too lazy to look through the pages.

As a new (Kinda. I played in CT, but not seriously...) player here, let me give my perspective. I entered a small tournament at an Anime convention. We had like 10 or so entrants. This was my first fighting game tournament, let alone my first BB tournament. I felt I was decent at the game: anyone I've played IRL I could easily beat. I was proven glaringly wrong during the tournament, where I was blown the hell up by much better players than I. There I was told about the Florida scene, but I was hesitant to actually attempt getting involved; I'm in my last semester of college, so I'm quite busy, and I'm not sure I have the time to put into becoming a better player. I started talking to people anyhow and now I'm convinced I want to improve at this game, but as far as entering tournaments? Right now, I'd be better off buying lottery tickets. Combine entry fees with the cost of travel and it becomes plainly obvious why beginners or people new to the scene won't show up. Gas is expensive. Traveling a few hours for a day tournament is expensive, but traveling further than that is ludicrous if you know there's no chance of taking anything home with you. Personally, DL has helped me improve at the game a lot, but one on one interaction would be better. I think local scenes need to regularly meet up and organize local events to draw more players in: that's the best way to get new blood and also to teach beginners. Beginner tourneys would help, as would casual events. Overall, word needs to be spread and new locals scenes need to be started if one doesn't exist already. Live streams help too, but there's only so much you can do without meeting with people face to face. -
Dude, gas is no joke on a 15-17 mpg vehicle. It was all cool when gas was $2.50, but now that we are hovering between $3-$3.50, filling my tank HURTS. Are there ever tournaments in Tampa? I'm new to the scene, so I don't even know, but the only one I knew that was held in Tampa was a tiny one at Shadocon. Glad you do... I don't. I hate the changes to Jin, with the except of 2D. Primer break I'm okay with. So guys, I'll ask again. Who needs a ride? I'd rather just ride with other people if I don't have at least 2 or 3 people riding with me.
-
Lucky bastard. :P
-
Okay, who all is going and who needs rides? If people pitch in like 3-5 bucks a piece, I can give a ride for up to 4 other people. I also drive an SUV, so bringing equipment along in my vehicle is a possibility.
