I'd laugh if the rival ended up being the one who saves the day and not the main character. That like never happens in these types of scenarios.

So let's breakdown how we all think each hero will die: Hakumen: It's gotta be something badass, and I highly doubt he'll beat Terumi...that seems like Ragna's job. Valkenhayn: I dunno, a heroic sacrifice to protect Rachel would be fitting. Jubei: Being a mentor, he'll probably die giving last advice to Ragna...or die along with Phantom in a "together in death" sort of thing. Nine/Phantom: see above, although we know shit about her so it's a bit hard. Trinity: Maybe she forgives herself about what happened with Kazuma and passes on? Hazama/Terumi: Well he's either going to die trolling the world one last time as a big "fuck you" to everyone, or he's going to die in the most humiliating and karmic way possible.

I called Hakumen dying a loong time ago, how else is Jin supposed to drop his balls if his alternate self continues to outclass him in.....well everything. The sad thing is, when that does inevitably happen, you know people are going to bitch how Jin isn't Hakumen and can never replace him.

The BB Community, EVO, Netplay, and the FGC.

I read that article and it was pretty legit. I can't do much to support this series, but I'll do whatever I can. -
My inner shipper is excited as well...damn this series for giving me feels with these characters. Funnily enough, I care more about Jin's conflict with Tsubaki than his one with Ragna....go figure. Well Jin would essentially be a second Hakumen otherwise...plus ya know, gotta please the Yaoi Fangirls. Yeah, it would be easier to take Jin a bit more seriously if he didn't come off as a depraved homosexual. I took this with a grain of salt honestly; Jin at that point was still possessed by Yukianesa and was probably too insane to interpret "saving" properly. This much is true tho, Jin....isn't right in the head, at least when he's around Ragna. I find it interesting how he can be a complete badass when it comes to the likes of Tsubaki or Makoto and how he's so hellbent on protecting them...but then becomes a dumbass around Ragna. It's such an inconsistency; It's like crying over a splinter after you just single handily took down a terrorist organization.
-
Well like I said, hopefully they can give the conflict between Ragna & Jin a bit more substance so it doesn't come off as so....tenuous as harmless said, specifically give Jin a legit reason for wanting to fight him outside of "NII-SAAAAN", LET'S MAKE LOVE". We all know Ragna wants to beat Hazama above anyone else, but he has a lot of bad blood with a lot of other characters as well.
-
Doesn't BS recover a lot more health than D Inferno Divider anyway?
-
That's what I was referring to. I dunno, it seems odd for Ragna to fight so hard against his supposed destiny but then just resign himself to the fact that Jin has to kill him.
-
I think it would be a lot more substantial if more focus was put on Ragna & Jin rather than Ragna & Hakumen, I just don't feel the story focuses enough on their conflict as much as it does with Ragna's other adversaries; I mean with Hazama it's justifiable considering he's the main antagonist towards Ragna, and Ragna hates him more than anyone else, but I feel so much focus has gone towards the likes of Hakumen and hell Azreal even, that it just takes away from Jin. Hell the primary reason Jin became stronger wasn't so much to beat Ragna, but to save Tsubaki. Hopefully CP can change this and give more substance to the two because the rivalry feels more or less one-sided on Jin's behalf. I dunno, it probably depends on language like you said, but Ragna almost sounds like he doesn't want to fight Jin.
-
Sounds like some mixup potential as well probably.
-
Isn't that kind of the definition of a rival, Someone who the protagonist must overcome? I mean if you look at it, part of Ragna & Hakumen's rivalry is the former trying to catch up with the latter; Hakumen completely outclassed Ragna previously and now they're more or less on equal terms and each time they fight they constantly acknowledge the other's strength. Both of them have pretty close ties to the plot and with one of the main villains(Ragna for how much Hazama screwed up his life, and Hakumen for how Hazama betrayed their group and banished him to the boundary). Jin by comparison isn't so much a threat, but more of a nuisance. Ragna more or less just swats him aside whenever they fought, and doesn't really have any beef with him anymore outside of Jin just wanting to kill him. When Ragna says he'll let Jin be the one to kill him, it sounds more like a brother who reluctantly wants to spend time with his annoying sibling...which is exactly the situation. It's not that Jin is a terrible rival, it's just that Hakumen plays the role a lot better because the story takes him a lot more seriously as a threat to Ragna, than it does for Jin. That's my two cents anyway. I'd laugh if the latter of what I said actually happens...like wut. Like seriously, four games just seems like two short to end this series on, at least five or six, but at the same time I don't want it to drag on more than it needs to.
-
Ya know, I kind of wonder where the story will go really..I mean is it gonna drag on forever, or actually end and then think of a new plot?
-
Some people would say GG's story is better because it's not so convoluted like BB's.... apparently they never heard the drama CD's. But on the plus side, despite how convoluted it tends to be BB's plot at least keeps me interested, and not in the bad way either. The characters are fleshed out enough for me to give a shit about them, and they can make me laugh. Not many video game stories can do that. Aside from Persona.
-
Oh shit you're right....that makes the fact that BB hasn't done one yet even more hilariously ironic.
-
Surprisingly, for all of it's cliches, this is the one Blazblue(Or Guilty Gear for that matter) hasn't even touched....hmm, interesting. Funnily enough, I feel sort of the opposite; CT is probably better told, but nothing really happens until the True Ending when the loops break. While in CS, a whole bunch of shit happens; Jin actually gets some character beyond molesting Ragna, Hazama, we find out who Relius is and why Carl's looking for him, Tsubaki and Litchi defect, Bang's Nox. For everything wrong with it, CS did expand on a lot of shit and set the stage for CP. It's still a pretty bad inconsistency dude. I loling so hard right now....which reminds me, it's been a while since I actually payed attention to it, but does SF even have a plot?
-
I understand that, which is why I'm not as hard on it. And I appreciate the effort Mori is trying to make with the story compared to to other fighting game franchises. And at the very least he's managed to make a pretty fleshed out cast with motivations for what their doing other than "Hey, I don't like you, let's fight" so I give it that much. But the execution is horrendous tho, there's so much shit you need to understand and so many materials you need to read to know what the hell is going on, and even then you'll probably still have more questions. I know a good way of storytelling is to have your audience wanting more, but they shouldn't be left with 100 questions about what the hell is going on. If this was an Anime, it'd be decent but this type of story doesn't work very well for a fighting game. Hell P4A has a much better story, but fighting hardly has anything to do with it in the grand scheme of things.
-
Sure it did; Angry guy wants to destroy government, his brother wants to molest him, and a moeblob, and a whole bunch of other unimportant characters. That sounds a lot more coherent.
-
Remember when this story made sense? The writers sure don't.
-
So wait, would that make Valkenhayn half too?
-
Half considering Nine is essentially a full blooded human. Now how she and Jubei conceived Kokonoe is another question entirely that I don't think needs to be asked...

And classy ass werewolf butlers in suits, Ditzy and bitchy catgirls, and a one-eyed juggernaut man of a cat.

To be fair, this is before he even knows Ragna is even alive or the Ikaruga War.....it's so fucking weird seeing him like this, he's like a different character. -
I'm pretty sure the Nemesis Horizon will be explained properly once the console release is out.
