If anything that may influence your choice, whiff punishing has one aspect that I found to be slightly different from the other games I've fiddled with. Counter hit is triggered even on whiff and moves can change on CH depending on them. As to how this affects you as a potential Slayer or Jam player? Slayer has stuff like ground bounces and other shit alike that helps converting into combos (boner status) and jam has pokes like 2S that can stagger the opponent which is totally desirable. Though, Jam is probably gonna do it in a fashion closer to footsies than Slayer IMO. Slayer is more about Abare with moves that have some parts of the body invincible and other shit alike. Essentially it's the same thing, but it just doesn't feel as such. This is just my thoughts on it, but doing Bison's sweep for instance doesn't feel like doing Ryu's sweep when whiff punishing. Both work and are as efficient as the other one, just not the same satisfaction. As for execution, Slayer probably isn't as bad as it sounds. I'm unsure how that changed in +R, but in AC he could get above average damage without working ridiculously hard. I will admit that he has hard stuff, but it would be the difference in between saying your combo does 60% versus 45%. My point is he's not unplayable because he has ridiculously hard stuff when it comes to optimization. To note, this may or may not be an issue, but he cannot cancel attacks into each other as freely as the rest of the cast. There's more links than cancels when doing pressure or combos. But in general, they slightly lowered the execution requirements for most characters. Don't be afraid of it, the initial bump in the learning curve is more scary than what follows

Neat ! Would it be too much to ask to bring along the money for the BBCP import list as well? Little reminder :3 -
Bit of theory crafting I wished to share. At one point I wondered if j.6D could be used to chip since it had the highest value for chip damage besides 6D. Rising j.6D catches people if they are standing. Sounds super cool, but in application, doesn't look as great. I'm still eager to test something like Zettou (236A) > j.B > j.6D and see if it has any potential or not. While this isn't explicitly accomplishing something, I'm hype over this little thing right here. Unless there's more to it like faster landing or w/e else, this is just a clear visual cue to send to your opponent to either distract or be used as a certain signal. If they notice it, I feel they could either get distracted and be likely to not react to a grab for instance. From there, you can send the visual cue again and do something different. NT in the video landed and did 6B. If the opponent tries to tech, you get a fatal, if they OS into barrier, free TRM setup. They can hardly disrespect it as you are point blank in their face. Nonetheless, with the lack of high/low mixup, I'll gladly take anything that can distract and just screw with reactions a little. Last but not least, had an idea that I've never seen used in a match. Midscreen, Amane can go out of his way to get a crossup in j.2B with air dash and/or command dashes. But you can't crossup in corner right? Though 2C vacuums, so I'm wondering if the same could be done in the corner using it to be able to crossup. It doesn't sound game changing, but corner crossups are not frequently available to most characters, so having one would still be interesting.

Interesting, a pool of round robins would probably be perfect. Everything you brought up about the benefits of a round robin is there, yet it accommodates very nicely the potential amount of players, the number of setups realistically available and the time frame available of one evening/day. Thanks for the suggestions Online rankings are a great way to distract yourself from the things that will actually help you improve. If you vow to gauge your skill level or worth through a number, it brings up the issue of missing context. A proper example of this is say I'm the best in the world but barely play online. My ranking would be lower than someone frequently active even though I could beat them any day. I end up facing that person, the thought process this person might have could be "This guy is ranked lower than me, easy peezy". Then a massacre occurs and the likely response would be "Why did I get beat by someone of a lower ranking than me? Am I even worth my current rank? I don't want to lower rank, that means I'm degrading instead of improving" Been there done that when I used to netplay SF4, depending on the value you put in these numbers, it can affect you in a non desirable way and even make you lose motivation in playing because they can be seen as a direct way to measure your worth. But there's so much more to it than just a number to measure this. It kind of strips you from being self aware of your own performance by putting faith into a ranking system.

Wouldn't that imply anyway for most people to arrive early friday/thursday? It just doesn't fit everyone schedule to be at the event this early/long. It's almost a luxury for me and the other guys I'm driving to stay throughout sunday without driving past 2am.

I would love to be on a team with the will to make it far so long as I can prove myself in the first month of the console release. Everything in due time -

It doesn't cover the team format, but still showcases how he format affects your gameplan and capacity to play a different way. In a teams format, you have one round against every other opponent you'll face. You don't play like you play a 2of3 or a grand finals set. If you like what 2of3 brings, teams may or may not be as appealing. -

Check on the meetups day, got myself some arm pain, doesn't prevent me from playing as much as it could sound, but heavily impacts my motivation to drop in town for a fight. Current mood is likely that I stay at home for tomorrow and thursday. If anything I can always drop for very little matches and just to hang out, but I know you and I both want more than just that. Then again, this mood swings depending on how I feel the morning, after a shift at work where I have to use the arm considerably, or whenever whatever the reason. Healing and resting > Gaming sessions until I feel a lot more stability EDIT: It's a lot less worse than it sounds, at least I feel. I'm just being self aware about it because if I'm not then it'll get worse and fast. -

Not due to that, or else how would they justify having gamecubes and CRTs in 2013 lol. It just means people have to find another excuse why they can't win at marvel :zidane: -
Long deserved update Amipara Technoland 09/08 - 5th dan Amane. Lots of sloppiness and uni-dimensionnal playstyle/runaway, but I kind of like watching these now and then. Really emphasizes what the good players are looking for and reacting to. Amane vs. Ragna - Youtube Amane vs. Eruo (Jin) - Youtube Amane vs. Tenkyoku (Rachel) - Youtube Tomi vs. Ibukichi (40 minutes mirror now in youtube version~) - Part 1 - Part 2 - Once Again, Tomi is beautiful to watch once he sets the pace. Jiku (Bang) vs. Mao (Amane) (1hour set) - Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - We rarely get some Amane Bang matches, this one's pretty good overall. Tachikawa 3on3 08/23 Gara (Amane) vs. UNDER (Tager) - Youtube Amipara Technoland 2on2 08/18 Amane vs. Litchi - Youtube - I wonder what'd be the optimal burst safe combo off a fatal 6B. I know you can punish the burst afterwards, but not sure I've seen a burst safe option after 6B that didn't involve Overdrive. Could be possible with j.C air routes. Amane vs. Relius - Youtube 7/28 MAXIM HERO 2on2 (Wow this dates back so much ;_ Mao (Amane) vs. Haru (tager) - Youtube Mao (Amane) vs. Kokonoe (Makoto) - Youtube Mao (Amane) vs. Noze (Hazama) - Youtube Wish I had more time to watch all these in detail ;_; Fall behind in recent videos, then 4-5 sets of 40 minutes pop up lol

I hope you see the slight contradiction with both these statements. Winning is a pretty vague distant goal. It's important to have the will to compete and keep up, don't get me wrong on that. But focusing on the winning part is the result, not the how-to get to it. Keep playing now and then, keep asking questions and before you know it everything will fall into place and you'll keep up with the other players -

I'm not saying entirely pointless and I don't know if it would do it for you, but I know that when guilty gear +R came out, I was a bit reluctant to get into it simply because I learned how to do something awesome I assumed for too long was too hard the week prior in the last version. It really depends if you feel it'd be partly in vain (which isn't totally) Then again, that's taking out of the equation the fun of learning new shit and applying it in matches before the game does come out and general execution grinding benefits. It's really just CSEX optimization in combos that is less likely to be carry over in CP as a player asset. Then again, I'm saying this without any idea on how Makoto changes/is affected, I just like discussing -
The round robin is cool, but I can hardly see it work in my scene unless we make it best of one simply due to time issues. When we'll have the game, we'll easily be 16 established blazbluers players and above. That's not counting new comers or street fighter guys. Maybe try and make a bracket with good players on one side and new players on the other one would seem like a better idea in this case? Same concept of "you don't get demolished and go home". At the same time, /hype/ matches on the other side of the bracket

Maybe I shouldn't be saying this since I never played the guy nor do I invest enough time in the game to be a proper judge. But grinding (new) combos while we are less than 2 months away from the new game... You definitely get better at this version or in execution, but wouldn't you lose part of that improvement by the end of october. It's kind of unmotivating to some extent. -
Since we're talking about an imported game, I think it's hard to be excited for a new game since it's more than a commitment to get the game for yourself. You can hardly get hype for something you'll get 3-4 months later. That being said, lowering the commitment for them as much as possible is what I think would work best. Buying a game for the venue, being present locally to support/explain or just play and be seen by others is a big step already. Maybe organize a free ranbat or tournament with small pot for the winners, etc. etc. Realizing they can't get the game for 3-4 months at home really changes how I would approach this to get people excited.

One van might not be enough at this point lol. if I call to book a room, I'll only be taking mine. I'm sure more will come to the event, but since this is so early, I know mine's bound to be filled and taking another one on thursday seems like overkill at the current time. Which all of it is of course... common fucking sense. -

Well hot fucking damn, I know air told me he could get off and other people were interested as well. I kind of feel nervous to propose it (as I'd be driving it) but maybe a van rental could be something to consider. Also, it's not just nerves when it comes to me driving the van, insurance costs for someone under the age of 25 are slightly higher or so I heard.
