Montreal: Le Thread Generale Pour Weeaboo Fighters
DerQ replied to BladeOfJustice7's topic in International
Hey there, I don't have all the time to go in detail since I'm at work, but here is some good info for newcomers: We gather 3 times a week at this arcade-like bar/restaurant named foonzo. It's right next to the bell center on drummond street. That being said, you need to be 18+ to go there, hope it's the case. We gather sunday, tuesdays and thursdays throughout the evening. You need to purchase some food (a meal) to play, bare minimum. Support the place, tip the waiters (or else they'll kick your ass at BB). One thing to note is that if you plan going on Tuesday, just ask ahead of time who's coming that day. It's the one day where sometimes most of us are busy with something else. Otherwise, there's always people. Plus, we have our biggest tournament of the year next weekend with players coming from Ontario and the US !!!! If you're not 18 or above, some of us live on the south shore too and I'm pretty sure we could do stuff outside of Foonzo if we must. Otherwise, you can always come chat with us on our forum used for stuff outside of dustloop. If you sign up there, you will see a mini-chat link in the upper right corner where we hang out and chat every day. -

Or for instance, if you want additional bandwidth for one month knowing you will break your cap, you can subscribe for an additional fee to extend your capacity. The rate for this is pretty good when compared to fees for going over your limit. What sucks is that the fee is now added to your monthly bill assuming you want it every month. Through the online interfaced used to subscribe to that service, you cannot unsubscribe the monthly fee. You are stuck with it unless you give them a call which takes roughly above 30 minutes just to say : "Remove it from my monthly fees". Loop this process everytime you're about to break your cap and are trying to save some money. -
if anything, there's floor space available in my hotel room. I'm pretty much filled besides that and sunday evening.

Might be crowded with the players coming to MAT that'll still be there. I don't mind, but you have to think that chances are likely the place will be packed that sunday. -

Godlike evening, has been a while since last time we ran events. Felt good. I was thinking I could post a link to the UMAD thread on MTLSF's facebook page for those who didn't know or could be interested. Thoughts, Y/N? @heartless, I rewatched some Tager/Amane vids I had posted recently and they are definitely not as good/interesting as I recalled them to be. Not so sure the matchup is as free as I claimed it to be. It still looks tedious for Tager (Obv durr), just not that bad. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm20817302 @8:25 the match starts. This would probably be the video where both players seem the most in control that I can remember -
15/05 Shinjuku Sportsland UDON Cup 2 on 2 Genjitsu (Amane) vs. Koji (Ragna) - Youtube Genjitsu (Amane) vs. Mitsurugi (Hazama) - Youtube Hina (Amane) vs. Souji (Arakune) - Youtube Hina (Amane) vs. Genjitsu (Amane) - Youtube Hina (Amane vs. Tetsuwo (Jin) - Youtube Good players throughout the 5 vids. 21/05 a-cho (Linked by numerogaijin in the general thread) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHCJ7F8FsCw I'm only 30 minutes in and so far it's all Amane and he's pretty good. 29/04 Tokyo Leisureland second shop Amane vs. Hazama (first match), Amane vs. Azrael (@9:36) - Nico - There's also another Amane against Tager, but he ain't playing the matchup right and gets blown up for going in multiple times. The other Amane ain't bad Amane vs. Taokaka (@4:50), Amane vs Tager (@11:50) - Nico Amane vs Hazama (@3:15) - Nico 11/05 NT (Amane) vs. Seri (Tager), NT vs. Kotetsu (Jin) @2:30, NT vs. Bullet @4:45 - Youtube - Nico NT (Amane) vs. JUN (Hakumen) - youtube 01/05 Gamechariot Shadow (amane) vs. Ragna - Youtube Shadow (Amane) vs. Taokaka - Youtube No date of recording, published on may 28th Amane vs. Bullet @15 minutes - Nico - This Amane plays to keep his neutral game going. He doesn't move or fabhops for no reason, he doesn't press too many buttons. The only round he lost was because he ended up losing neutral and blocking. Felt very clean

Hmm it could have been worse. Went 1-2, lost to VR-Raiden on stream then played absolutely horribly my next match in losers. Not a super satisfying level of play all around, but the important part was that unlike previous tournaments, I didn't get nervous as much as usual which felt awesome. Then got bodied hard in GG ;_; Might as well post this before I forget. I've lost track of who may or may have not paid for Toryuken 2. I'm assuming everyone did, I just want to double check. Gas costs for ECT would end up being 25$/each for the record -

It's not that bad, anyway we've been juggling doing tourneys since a little while and it's just hard for people to get into it when the turnout is below 8 as of lately. If anything I'll get people into doing a round robin or some shit if the tourney can't be applied. We need to test gundam I believe anyway as this was also something we wanted to do before UMAD. So long as there's at least 1 console for other games, we'll be fine. -
If I may add, the short distance on his corner carry routes is well complimented by the ability to corner carry even backwards if you desire. From anywhere on hitting airborne opponents you should be able to bring them into the corner.

Shoutouts to Organizers, Biscuits, Dai, Bibi, SJC, LI Joe, everyone that I may or may not know involved here. Stay godlike Biscuits for pouring Maple syrup all over Madcatz (Free tritons for canadian). I love your shit talk Dai hanging all weekend whether it be DD, Diner on sunday, throughout the event Iora for going in with the matchup talk. Even if it was just Order sol, you really made it sink in that I should put a lot more work in the knowledge aspect of the game to further craft my gameplan against all characters Roku for noticing me amongst the crowd, finally senpai paid attention to me today. In all seriousness, much fun was had in that persona set on sunday VRRaiden for our match on stream. Had a lot of fun and was surprisingly calm through it even though I got blown up. A good contrast on the last few tourney matches I've had in the previous month Super J for putting me out of GG twice in a row. Your slayer overall makes me want to put in some work in that regards. That guy playing Marvel casuals getting mad and slamming a chair on the ground followed by spilling water on Fanatiq's back and not giving any fucks about it. Popcorn, fucking love popcorn Cluck U Arc Revo re-stream being completly free Kurushii for taking care of it Sleep for being a vital human need Guitar hero 3 for the nostalgia Sleeping 13 hours on sunday total Arriving home at 4:30 AM on monday Having a day off on monday

For the record, I'd try and set up a bracket to be run sunday for both GG and BB as suggested by Bibi a while back. Road to Ultimate Montreal Airdashers. Please show up if you can or else I'll ask to run tourneys at every meetup >:| -

Wait, we had someone from out of town, and there was the prospect of Naoto mirrors? WHY did I miss that? -
Some move descriptions didn't fit what could be observed by reading the frame data or even watching matches. 6B was described to be an overhead (it looks like one and we believed that for a while) and some other stuff such as Hariken drill level 3 hitting low was also wrong. Overall, it did a good job at explaining what move did what so it's not like I changed everything.

Some info in the main post were flat out wrong/old so I cleaned up some of it without going overboard so that it's at least up to date. I'd probably go more into details, but I'm slightly a bit reluctant to do so before we truly have the game.

Hmm, this is exactly what I was mentioning before, a lot of this will be more applied to neutral play. I'd only post what is currently known that has any direct tie with drill management and with pressure. I'd give an example really quickly. Instead of saying : "Use Hariken stance to charge", I'd actually showcase the impact it has on drill management while used in pressure. You wouldn't use Hariken stance to charge while pressuring as it would make you stop your pressure entirely. But during pressure, you might use Hariken stance to cancel rapidly your normals to extend pressure. For instance: 3C > Hariken empty cancel > continue pressure. You are in Hariken stance for a very short time, but if you're on drill level 3, the charge speed is much faster. This means that the drill level will be maintained to the current state it's in simply for using Hariken empty cancel while at level 3. It's this kind of thing that could be showcased and even if we don't have the game, we can list the direct impact on drill level depending on the current situation. I really like this method of thinking because your drill game can override your mixup game and it's entirely possible to win that way. In any case, I have a few ideas on how to write this thing to be very much fleshed out which I'll do so this week (if I find time + motivation) As for jB > jA being a "mixup", you're totally right, it's not. My bad on calling stuff things they aren't. It just adds a way to slightly alter the strings you'll be using during pressure IF you want to make the opponent second guess when you may attempt throws. It's not anything big, but I think it's worth mentioning the known implications of the move. EDIT 23/05 Reread mixup and pressure sections and slightly cleaned some of it removing useless sentences or adding useful info that enhanced what was written. No major add ups. Also cleaned up the format making it easier to read since it's not Italic anymore. I'll be going through the drill part at the same time as the maintenance section will be added. Note to myself, I want to add the obvious j.A, 2A, 5A pressure in the upclose pressure section.

If you're a local player, do come and hang with us at our hotel, we'll be a few players and will most likely try and setup casuals in our rooms at some point throughout the weekend.

It's annoying teaching someone a game and all they do is complain and compare it to their own game or simply call the game a badly made game. When it isn't, pisses me the fuck off. No one wants to teach a whinner. But anyways I'm done. And no, I think Melty Blood is a cool game along with any game that people play in this scene. But don't come asking to learn a game and then bash it because it's not like your own. I get that it's annoying as a teacher, but as a student it's slightly different. If you can compare a new environment to a familiar one and tie stuff together with a reality you understand, it'll help get you acquainted with what you have to learn. On the other hand, in a learning context, this is more detrimental than beneficial to this whole process for both parties involved I'll agree. -
