Just finished recording, one of our guests was sick last week which scrubbed out original recording date. I'll see if I can get something up this weekend.

[P4A] Naoto Shirogane - Gameplay Discussion "Ace Detective"
Random Naoto replied to ludwig van's topic in Archives
I've been playing with the j.A j.B j.D trap j.A/2A mix-up for a few weeks. It's much better to do a jump in j.A than short hop, and you can get the full blockstring/mix-up. After 214C, a regular corner jump-in with Naoto j.A safe-jumps reversal DPs against Shabrys, Chie, Aigis, Akihiko, and if I remember correctly, Yosuke. Mitsuru, Narukami, and Labrys can be punished for a whiffed DP if you just hold back during the first part of the jump and delay the A mash slightly. I've also had a lot more luck with blowing the 25 meter for an EX trap for the faster recovery and chip. On the topic of corner game, the frames on 214 C happen to make this safe-jump work in the Mitsuru match-up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reK4OvfKoiQ&feature=youtu.be -

It started with that part Jet mentioned where you got mad if I remember correctly.

So a few friends and I (one of whom is a strong aigis player, the other who I'm just going to put on blast and assume is coming is a strong Akihiko player) are going to record a P4U related podcast this weekend mostly for fun, but also to try and get people talking about the game a little bit more and discuss the US tournaments from the last month or so. If any of you have comments, questions, shout outs, or funny shit to say, PM it to me and we'll read/attempt to answer/laugh about it. It would definitely help us out. I'll post the end result this weekend.

I doubt it, just for the fact that human error is much more likely than random machine code error. The advanced input in P4 is apparently only three frames, so it's not super lenient in the first place, and it doesn't seem to work with charge moves, like 2[C]. But it definitely does help with the double fang. If you're worried about your buttons, turn input display on in training mode and do the combo until you drop one and see if the game engine registered the B.
-
Dropping as in the counter turns yellow/the dummy techs, or dropping as in the double fang doesn't connect? Make sure you're taking advantage of advanced input. You should be doing 236B, and holding the B button until the double fang actually comes out making sure that it actually comes out and comes out on the first frame. Other than that, double check the notation and make sure you're doing the combo correctly; if you're doing anything wrong it might be messing with the proration you've accumulated and not letting you do as many double fangs as you should.

Meterless, most dps and aoas on block can be punished for 6.6k in the corner if you have 5 meter to start with. 236B, 2A, 2B, 5C, 2[C], 5B, 5C, immediate j. D, cancel into 214CD, jump B, 236AD, 214Dx6. There's also that hell mode meterless loop starter from a counter hit 5C midscreen. If they're too far for 5A and midscreen, a counter hit 5C at sweep range will combo into a IAD C, which gives more damage possibilities. 5C iad C, mash A gives you autocombo burst gain, 30 meter, and 2.3k. I'll trade resources for a thousand or so damage any time. Blocked gunshots are pretty unsafe, Narukami seems to be able to punish low shots with 5B, which is 9 frames, and mitsuru 5A (5 frames) is a really tight punish for a shots. -
If anyone has trouble hitting the 2[C] in her loop starters after the b gunshot into stance cancel, I started messing with this plink today and it seems way more consistent than holding the button. The engine mechanic that repeats inputs for a few frames doesn't seem to work well in this particular instance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1z50Icwx1Q

It depends on your character as to what will beat it outright, but that's like saying "what do I do to beat a shoryu (I guess in this case an r action) when I want to go ham after a knockdown". To some extent it's an option you have to respect; if they have the meter, they might do it. You can go in and take your chances or play safe and give up meaty pressure for the chance to bait it: -
I'm a huge fag.

Anyone want to come over and drink on Christmas eve? It's a monday but I figure no one has to work Tuesday (except for me).

Super tentatively... Like, drunk business plans written on a napkin after a breakup tentative, how many people would be down to go to Austin on Saturday if a carpool were put together? I may or may not have to drive back late Saturday night, so if anyone needs to be back by Sunday morning we can work it out, possibly take two cars, whatever. Transient, tell them you're in tow attending a wildly successful Professor's symposium on the environmental consequences of hydrofracking in Pflugerville for extra credit and you'll be back in time for morning prayers. I will be playing the part of your eccentric but loveable professor, Dr. Kaunismäki (I'm Finnish), and would be happy to vouch for you as one of the frontrunners for a very coveted TA position next semester provided you attend my lecture.

I was messing around in training mode and figured out if you do 5D and then raid, you can hit the second 5D at any time and the persona will come out during the animation and even during the super freeze for critical shot. I haven't figured out any real gimmicks or anything, but it locks them down long enough that you can basically throw out raid/crit shot for free, or delay the second 5D for when they try to punish it. -
Is anyone hosting this weekend open to like... Randoms? I got some time off this weekend and was planning on spending it either working on my toothpick diorama of Ralph Macchio sinking the Bismarck or playing p4. Also I met Daigo once, so you know I'm not dangerous and am pro at video games.

That'd be me. I'm trying to get some people over for tomorrow (Sunday) night just for some casuals, no real time frame. Send me a text message if you want to come hang out.

I wouldn't rely on trying to anti-air it with anything that doesn't stay out for a really long time since it's pretty much a black hole. It eats almost everything and has a lot of active frames, and the damage is too high to roll the dice. That move is pretty much the reason why putting up C traps in the kanji match up should be near the top of the priority list when you get a knockdown or some space. A lot of Kanji players either just throw it out or hope they miss the trap and will run right into it. If you're at mid screen or an otherwise dangerous range, jump D works really well to stuff the grab since it has a good hitbox and enough active frames to compensate for them doing it late. I ran a longish set against a good Kanji player last night and I think this is actually one of the more difficult match ups for Naoto. He has one of the better options for hitting you out of traps or aim from full screen since it paralyzes you and hits more than once, he has good moves to take you out of the air if you try to lay high C traps or jump/backdash away, your options in the corner on wake-up are not good since he's more likely to grab which will beat counter-shot and grab you out of an AC evade, and a lot of his damage comes in combos that you can't burst from. It's also really dangerous to throw random double fangs to try and get your offense going; if they block the first hit and mash his counter electricity thing, it will hit you out clean and paralyze you. It's pretty bad, and meaty timing in the this game isn't easy. If you're trying to set up the SMP, 5A is the most convenient way of getting it, but it's probably also the least likely to come up in a match. Jump C or IAD C into 5A is way more likely to get you your hit. Some of the more recent videos show ways of getting into the loop that don't involve starting with a 5A; and don't use crazy amounts of meter. Baiting out reversals from characters that have shoryu-esque moves is also an easy way of getting the loop going. If you're playing footsies with 5C and 2C, it sounds like you're using the wrong moves. Both of those are pretty slow, easily blocked, and have way too much recovery. 5B/2B, jump C/IAD C, and her sweep are much better options. If the other guy just wants to block all day and try to rush you down, you have to play lame. Just lay your traps and harass them until they try to get in, move or try to attack them while they're dealing with the traps, and start up the game again. If you just try to slug it out with pretty much any other character in the game, you're going to get blown up. The only character you can really go after aggressively is Elizabeth.
