  1. I think we're getting off topic here. Sure, some advanced combos require good execution, FRC's take getting used to. But for most characters, all you really need to start playing is a short chain into knockdown, and a basic oki setup. Everything else comes with experience, time, and some training. The hardest thing I find to learn in G-Gear, as someone who's still starting out, isn't combos at all. It's learning neutral and defense against such a varied, high power cast.
  2. FRC's take awhile to get used to, but most combos in GG involve either chains, special cancels, or jump cancels. It ought to be easy to start out with something simple into knockdown, and most combos aren't nearly as long as BB combos. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that this game has very little hitstop compared to BB and some other recent games, so you have to confirm well and confirm fast or the combo will drop. As the other posters have said, character has a lot to do with it. For example, Slayer has links instead of chains, Sol requires clean hits to do his best BnB's, Testament has new routes open up if he can push the opponent into one of his traps mid combo, and I-No requires some crazy execution.
  3. Doesn't Arakune have shit matchups too though? Once some rushdown characters get on Arakune, they're never getting off of him; at least Carl can try to command dash through a gap.
  4. That seems to have done it, thank you.
  5. The characters from left to right correspond to the same order from top to bottom. Leftmost column indicates the Character being played, and the top row shows the character being played against. The number in a box is the advantage, or disadvantage, a character has against another. For example, second to last row, first white column is Elizabeth versus Yu. Elizabeth performs badly versus Yu, and so has a hefty -1.5 (This translates to a 3.5 - 6.5 matchup in favor of Yu. A 5 - 5 matchup, or +0, is even). Boxes with a slash are mirror matches; you can't hold any particular advantage over the same character! If you get confused as to who's who in the chart, look for these boxes, since you can trace them easily back to the character. The rightmost column is an aggregate of all a character's matchups. Liz, at -5.5, is the worst character on the list; Chie, at +10, is the best.
  6. Valkenhayn? More like Valkenplane.
  7. Note that three of these are the antagonists running the tournament; of course they wouldn't give themselves insulting names. Labrys' could seem demeaning in P4A when she wants to forget about being a robot (STEEL council president). Not sure about Elizabeth, since she's not an antagonist and she does have a flaw that can be picked on (her unfamiliarity with the human world). My guess is that the villains knew absolutely nothing about her beyond her immense power (while Sho MINAZUKI probably did some research on the others) and that she looks like an elevator attendant. That or Atlus just felt like giving her a cool title. That said, I guess Yukari has improved enough as a person that wearing a garish pink outfit is the most of her worries?
  8. Pressing quote will not automatically insert a quote with the original poster's name and text. I have to manually type out the "
  9. Certain computers I use seem to be unable to paste anything into a post, and the quote option does not work. It's most notable trying to use a computer at work, where it never works, but sometimes even on my personal laptop I cannot do it either. Any suggestions?
  10. I knew that Liz was getting slightly better, but I'm honestly surprised to see her assessed up in B tier. What puts her definitively above Labrys? What's the source of this list?
  11. To be honest, I almost like it better this way. There was one combo in that video that inflicted fear, negative, paralysis, and poison (though it was probably nearly done with) all in the same combo and corner carried. That kind of set up is either going to get the opponent to do something really stupid, or allow Liz to get absurd damage off an untechable throw. Negative mid combo would allow for a god deal of guaranteed damage off the randomizer combo itself, but the negative penalty would probably be nearly done with by the end of the combo, stopping liz from inflicting some kind of crazy reset with it (unless Neg. Penalty wears off in a different manner than other status).
  12. New Elizabeth developments are making me rethink dropping her. If she's back to crazy damage and status spam, I'm in. On the other hand, I was getting really hype for Minazuki. So... fuck.
  13. INB4 they announce game now has UNLIMITED DAMAGE. I feel bad for everyone who actually hoped for something good to come out of this, but from the sidelines, this whole ordeal has been really funny.
  14. Don't worry Terumi QUALITY, we'll always have CS1.
  15. Ken + Koromaru look insane at first glance (at least to me). Enormous pokes, seem to be able to attack simultaneously, Koro's bar is HP instead of a use bar (and it regenerates fairly quickly when he gets KO'd!). Hopefully there's some detail we can't perceive here that won't leave these two occupying the S++ tier Yu left vacant after the patch.
  16. Image confirms that Narukami inhabiting his own tier is/was a feature, not a bug.
  17. I'm really hoping Wagner winds up playable. I know they said that she just fights with sword and board awhile back, but the Red Knight is too important to too many characters (esp. the Amnesia folks) to be a no show in this game. Plus then we'd have a second Licht Kreis member; they're supposed to be important, right?
  18. I'm glad I went to UFGT, even if it did tire me out by the end. I'll admit I got frustrated sometimes, especially with how I've been unable to play for a long time and it seemed like everyone else moved ahead while I stayed behind. However, I'm glad I got the chance to play against so many different people and watch high level play for many different games. I owe a lot of specific people, but since I'll be seeing a lot of you in person I'd rather tell you then. Someone I need to thank who I won't be seeing anytime soon is Bloodwolf, who I need to thank for giving me Nu-13 XP. Seriously, I don't think anyone around here plays that character. Though I will see him, Shin deserves my thanks for a whole lot of things, foremost among them running the Persona side tourney so I could play Liz seriously one last time before I switch to SHO in Ultimax. Although I didn't get their names, I want to thank the people who ran the Melty Side Tourney as well; even though I got straight knocked out, it was real fun to get introduced to the game, and Warachia is an instant favorite in my list of characters. I'll try my best to improve, get farther, and not get knocked out by being impatient vs DP or dropping a knockout Wail combo (the latter was probably the most painful thing to happen to me personally all weekend).
  19. You're never too old for Phoenix Featherman R.
  20. The X series seems more pseudocanon than throughly non-canon to me. I mean, otherwise Dizzy, I-NO, Slayer, Baldhead donning a paper-bag, etc. pretty much comes out of nowhere in the jump from GG1 to Xrd (since so few characters showed up in GG2). Same goes for the development of Sol and Ky's relationship. Calling the X series gaiden feels more like "the gist of this is right, but we're going to change the details as we see fit to make it line up with the new story" than "no, this all wrong." Of course, playable Kliff and Justice are just such removable details.
  21. Hi everyone, I'm back for Spring Break. Is Pazzo still on Wednesday as well as Friday now? And if so, does anyone go on Wednesdays? Because I've got some friends interested in turning out, and we're trying to decide which day of the week they'll come on.
  22. Azrael can cancel his forward dash into a jump, producing a jump with some additional forward momentum. One thing this allows is that if you tiger-knee input a ground-based special during his forward dash, he will cancel his dash into that special instead of jumping. This has some good uses, like extending the range of Gustaf to pretty much fullscreen, or allowing cross-through, TK cancel into Gustaf or Tiger (which can stuff certain attempts to mash on his cross-ups). Once the patch hits, this will be practical to do with Sentinel Dump too.
  23. I think they said they wouldn't be able to do it, but if they were to add another character I'd want to see Wagner. Story important (for what little that matters) given the number of characters with vendettas against her, and it'd be nice to have a 2nd Licht Kreis member.
  24. This game's roster kills my hype so hard. It's going to be nothing but Shizuo mirrors around my local group, except for one person who wants to play Shana. Railgun's the only other character I'd consider playing. Freaking Kirito being playable (when we already had Asuna) gets me angry. All the swordfighting characters seem somewhat homogeneous in style to me too. The worst part is that the support roster has so many characters I'd love to be playable. I probably won't buy the game myself if nothing changes. It's disappointing given how interested I was in this project at first.
  25. Yeah, was about to say. On the rare occasion I actually get a CH with the move, its one of my favorite things. The other being raw CH D Garudyne on the dash happy Yosuke. Sadly, I'm not too confident there will be any real big updates to game balance for P4U2. BB and GG get a good number of revisions per game, but if I remember correctly P4A only got one post release and it wasn't very game-changing. I'm not expecting any more attention to be given to Ultimax. The only thing good about all this is that I finally understand how Tsubaki players must feel. Kanji health and damage I'd take willingly (more damage than HP for me please), but I definitely don't want Kanji SPEED.
