Yeah, when it comes to swagginess and execution, Roi always comes off as the less impressive among Sol players. I don't particularly enjoy watching him. -

Even in the realm of optimization, playstyle can influence combo choice. If you have a combo that is more damaging but gives not so optimal oki, you may see that combo from players who are more confident in their ability to open people up, or who prefer certain setups. There are also combos that do more damage but have much more stringent execution requirements, you may not see these combos often but players who are very confident in their execution will use them. Like, if I watch Xrd streams of certain Sol players (Super Sol-Ko for example), I see combo routes that I didn't know even existed. Some players live to swag. The key thing to remember is that what we see in videos is an incredibly small fraction of the play that actually goes on in Japan. The whole "copy-paste from YouTube" phenomenon is because when you don't have access to a game, it's much easier to just take from what you see. Even then, players will often innovate when the opportunity arises. If anything, with PS4 having recording capabilities, I expect the sharing of various pieces of tech to explode once Xrd hits. -

Same combos != same playstyle. -

As an aside, I actually think this version of Sol is much more fun than Slash and AC era versions. I could never really get into Sidewinder combos, and I feel like his combos in Xrd have more variety. Plus Sidewinder was pretty much useless outside of combos. I like the addition of Kudakero, probably the most functional special move he's gotten in a long time. I've also always really liked Dustloops, and they're not only tricky to do in this version, but there's also a ton of overall combo variety with them. Plus his character design benefits heavily from the new RC system. -
I never have consistent success IADing by using buffers, so I use the same technique that I use with HOS and use a HJ IAD. The additional input time seems to help with getting the airdash out with the right timing. Landing the hit afterwards is also just a matter of input timing. You cannot cancel the very first frames of an airdash, but you can cancel into attacks much earlier than it seems.

A combo I didn't see in the Combo Thread that's pretty good: 5S(f)-5HS -> RC, BB, dash 5S(c or f)-5HS -> IAD j.K-D -> Kudakero, 6P -> BR Works from ranges where Fafnir after BB won't push to the corner. Fafnir after BB route does slightly more damage. To get an idea of spacing, after using WT on a cornered opponent, hit them with 5HS -> BR, and then from that spacing hit with 5S(f) at max range to start the combo. Another small note from perusing the wiki, Tyrant Rave as a reversal has one advantage over VV, in that it can be YRCed or PRCed. So when you have 75% meter, you can risk a TR and buffer the YRC so that if the opponent baited and it whiffs, you get off scot free.

Not much is absolutely known from a technical standpoint since we don't have a mook or any other source of reliable data. -

I can confirm the match point requirement. Good thing to know, wasn't aware of that limitation. -

I'm still seeing December 16th on my order. Of course, maybe I'll get an email stating otherwise later. For those who played in arcade, is there any way to select the same character colors? One of my favorite classic Sol colors is stuck in that spot, wish I could pick it. >=| -

Funny, I got an email saying I was guaranteed release date, and I did another preorder (to get cheaper shipping) and I was given the same date. Maybe try starting a new order to see what date you're guaranteed? -

It can happen mid combo, but the threshold is much lower (10%, compared to 20%). -

The main limitation to IK combos is that the opponent has to be in Hell Fire, and they enter Hell Fire at a much lower life percentage when in the middle of a current combo. As such, it's tough to perform an activation and still land the IK near the end of a longer combo, where you're running out of untechable time. Plus you have to still have 50% Tension available to get the screen freeze when activating during Hell Fire. These requirements altogether reduce the practicality of IK combos. Now if your opponent is already in Hell Fire when you start, that's a different story. -

Oh yeah, you bet. -
It offered the easiest loop/infinite ever (dash S-HS repeat), which also happened to do massive damage and had a high chance of dizzying the other player.
-
Oh yeah, so if the opponent enters Hell Fire state during a combo, you can still combo IK on them if you have the right setup/resources. The life threshold for when they enter Hell Fire during combo is a lot lower, but I have video proof of concept that it works. Pretty nifty for style points.

You can definitely use a flash drive. That's how I've uploaded all my vids. PS4 -> USB -> laptop -> YouTube. -
More useful, but I would say that practicality is still kind of questionable. DI can be seen as an "all-in", in that if you screw up, you are all sorts of dead. But yeah, I would say that overall it's probably the best version of DI since GGX (aka the last time DI could be considered even remotely useful).

I wouldn't be surprised if it was removed. Between 1FJ and all the various defensive option selects, a lot of potentially useful setups can be made null and void. -
Ok I tried several times to land IK after WT without RCing and I could never get it to connect. If it does work, it's either character-specific, or it's frame-tight. Good news is that you can land it midscreen after WT with the dash j.D-j.D, Fafnir route. And yes, I'm going to find as many of these as I can before the demo's over. :D

Tension pulse may have been seen as something that gives too large of an advantage to the offensive player or the one who has more knowledge of the game system. Plus with how powerful the new RC options are, having a ton of meter all the time might be seen as too good. Meter already builds pretty quickly anyway. -
I've tried it before but wasn't successful, timing might be suuuuuper tight. The combos above require pretty tight timing already, but given that WT is completely untechable in Xrd, I can see why it might work.
-
Yeah you need at least 50% to get the screen freeze effect on IK activation.

I like how this guy AllyOfJustice pops in this thread every month or so, spouts the same trollish, idiotic nonsense, gets himself banned for a week within 3 or so posts after getting his privileges back, and we are still talking about that crap while he isn't even here. Game is great, if you don't have the demo and you have a PS4, get it soon before the trial period ends. So very beautiful, and if you have any doubts about the gameplay, most of them should be laid to rest after playing.
