  3. General Overview: Valkenhayn is a relatively tricky character to use, as he relies on the player being constantly cognizant of his/her wolf meter. At times, you may find yourself opting for combos that use less wolf meter in order to reserve a good amount of it for extended oki/pressure/mix-up, etc. Acting recklessly during wolf mode may cause you to fully deplete said meter, thus putting you in a rather unpleasant situation. If such an occasion arises (ideally it shouldn't be happening) playing the spacing/poking game until you've fully regenerated your meter is a solid option in most cases, as you're essentially stalling for time. New to Chrono Phantasma, Valkenhayn can actually link a h[236B~236B] from his 5C. Since most normals chain into 5C, using 5C > h[236B~236B] as a means to create space between you and your opponent while stalling for wolf regen time has become quite a solid option. In short, please try to keep in mind that wolf mode is an extremely important/core aspect of Valkenhayn's neutral, and is not solely used for combos. With that being said, regularly using three w[4D] command dashes in succession as a means to approach/get in with wolf mode is generally frowned upon, since you're essentially crippling your combo potential for when you do actually land a clean hitconfirm. It's most definitely a two way street, and part of being a strong Valkenhayn player is actively being able to properly balance and utilize wolf/human mode both effectively yet efficiently. If you do find yourself running out of wolf meter mid combo, try to end said combo with w[214A/214B]. Note: You will notice that combos which start with wolf mode will indicate which segment is performed in human mode with an h[ ], likewise, you will also notice that combos which start with human mode will indicate which segment is performed in wolf mode with an w[ ]. Transitions from human mode to wolf mode and vice-versa are excluded from this rule and will not be put into parenthesis. Please PM/VM me if any confusion arises as I will be updating this thread on a daily basis. Current Combo Count: 149. Screen Positioning Explanation: Midscreen: These combos may vary, and not all of them will end in the corner. However, these are combos that can be done around the fullscreen-ish/midscreen-ish area without the need of the corner. Midscreen to Corner: These combos start around the midscreen-ish area and require the corner for full completion. Combos found in this sub-section will mostly end in human strings and are solid for regenerating wolf meter. Near Fullscreen: These combo's start around the 1/3rd-ish stage mark and will mostly end in the opposite corner. Combos found in this sub-section will mostly start from strong starters and have very good corner carry. Back to Corner: These combos start with your back being extremely close towards the corner. Combos found in this sub-section will mainly focus around bringing your opponent back into the corner behind you. Corner: These combos mostly start with your opponent being directly in the corner, but it is important to note that some work relatively close/near to the corner and have slight corner carry. Combos found in this sub-section have many different purposes, and Valkenhayn's most damaging combos can be found here. Overdrive costs an entire burst gauge and places Valkenhayn in a temporarily powered up state. Overdrive lasts longer the less life you have remaining. Combos in this thread that use overdrive will list the required level of overdrive which will range from 1-10. The duration of overdrive for Valkenhayn is calculated by the following table: Please note that cancelling a move into overdrive splits it's duration in half. Overdrive Levels: Health (%) 100-90 = Level 1 Health (%) 089-80 = Level 2 Health (%) 079-70 = Level 3 Health (%) 069-60 = Level 4 Health (%) 059-50 = Level 5 Health (%) 049-40 = Level 6 Health (%) 039-30 = Level 7 Health (%) 029-20 = Level 8 Health (%) 019-10 = Level 9 Health (%) 009-0 = Level 10 Beginner Valkenhayn Combos For Newcomers Are you new to Chrono Phantasma Valkenhayn and plan on learning some of his combos? If so, this is a good place to start. Since the combo thread is filled to the brim with a plethora of combos you may not know where to begin, so I've compiled two relatively short lists of 8 combos in total that are fairly easy to execute and will allow you to slowly ease into some of his more advanced stuff. There are four combos from wolf starters, and four combos from human starters. Additionally, I've also ordered the combos numerically from easiest to hardest in each respective list. Midscreen: 1) 2A > 2B > 5B > 3C > 236A [1397 DMG, 10 HG] 2) 2A > 2B > 5B > 5C > 236B~236B [1735 DMG, 12 HG] 3) w[5A > 5B > 5C > 6D > j.A > 5D] > 5B > 5C > j.A > j.B > dj.B > j.C [2113 DMG, 15 HG] 4) w[5A > 5B > 5C > 6D > j.A > j.C > dj.C > j.236A > j.236B > j.214A] [2420 DMG, 17 HG] Corner: 1) 2B > 5B > 3C > 2A > 2C > 6C > 2C > 6B > 5B > 2C > j.B > dj.B > j.C [2829 DMG, 20 HG] 2) 6C > 2C > 6B > 2C > j.214B > 1D > w[236B > j.236A > j.236B > j.214A] [3355 DMG, 24 HG] 3) w[5A > 5B > 5C > 6D > j.A > 5D] > 5B > 236A > 2C > tk.214B > 6C > 3C > 236B [2424 DMG, 17 HG] 4) w[5C > 6D > j.A > 5D] > 5B > 2C > 6C > 2C > 6B > 5B > 2C > j.B > dj.B > j.C [3247 DMG, 23 HG] Here is a video of all 8 combos being performed for visual reference. Good luck! And if you have any questions/concerns please feel free to consult the F.A.Q in this thread or the Valkenhayn Q&A thread. Most Underrated Corner Combo Adds approximately 400+ more damage to our standard w[5A]/[j.A] route for almost the exact same amount of wolf gauge usage. 5A/j.A > 5B > 5C > 6D > j.A > 5C > 236A > 5D > h[2C > 236A > 2C > tk.214B > 6C > 3C > 236B] [2784/2711 DMG, 19 HG] The combo itself is universal but the timing is not. You will have to adjust accordingly. Wolf Sweep Loop Valkenhayn can optimize certain combos with his w[5C] coupled with the wolf brake, this is more commonly referred to as the "Wolf Sweep Loop." Combos that utilize this loop tend to be very wolf meter intensive and executionally demanding, they are not compulsory. Here's an example of a combo in this thread that utilizes the Wolf Sweep Loop: 5A > 5C > [3D > 4C > 5C] x3 > 6D > 1C > j.A > 5D > h[5C > 236A > 2C > tk.214B > 6C > 3C > 236B] [2863 DMG, 20 HG] For learning purposes I've put the part of the combo that utilizes the loop in bold & italics. The loop is notated as [3D > 4C > 5C] xN, wherein the xN is being used to indicate the number of reps. Steps: 1. Input w[5C]. 2. Immediately follow-up with 3D (anything above 3 reps requires 3D due to spacing issues). 3. Next, input a slightly delayed 4C (this is the wolf brake). 4. Now hold the 4C to get another w[5C]. 5. Rinse & repeat from step 2. Here is a video that showcases the loop for visual reference. Recommended Valkenhayn Combos Valkenhayn has plenty of combo routes this time around, and this list barely scratches the surface. But, here are 20 combos that I would personally recommend learning; some of which I use myself. Doesn't Work On: Nu-13 (236C whiffs), Carl (2C whiffs), Izayoi (236C whiffs), Relius (236C whiffs), Makoto (2C whiffs). Corner Throw > 2C Works On: Terumi, Relius, Bullet, Platinum, Hazama, Mu-12, Ragna, Jin, Valkenhayn, Noel, Hakumen, Litchi, Arakune, Bang, Kokonoe, Kagura, Carl, Izayoi. Doesn't Work On: Amane, Nu-13, Tsubaki, Azrael, Makoto, Rachel, Taokaka, Tager. The reason it doesn't work on those characters is because they bounce much lower to the ground making it impossible to followup with 2C. For those it does not work on, use the following combo instead: 5B > 236A > 2C > 6B > 2C > tk.214B > 6C > 3C > (236B). If you don't want to bother with the character specifics it's easier just to go for the 5B > 236A route since it works on everyone and sacrifices about 200 damage. Corner tk.214B > 6C > 3C > 236B ender The 236B Works On: Terumi, Relius, Bullet, Platinum, Hazama, Mu-12, Ragna, Jin, Valkenhayn, Hakumen, Litchi, Arakune, Bang, Kokonoe, Carl, Izayoi, Makoto, Tsubaki, Taokaka, Rachel, Nu-13. The 236B Whiffs On: Noel, Tager. Works But Stricter On: Azrael, Amane, Kagura. (hit as early as possible with the 3C otherwise the 236B will whiff). Corner 236C > 2D > w(5C) It works on everyone during a FC combo, otherwise: Works On: Relius, Makoto, Taokaka, Hazama, Hakumen, Bullet, Ragna, Litchi, Terumi, Noel, Amane, Jin, Arakune, Carl, Rachel, Kokonoe, Valkenhayn & Bang. Doesn't work On: Mu-12, Kagura, Tager, Azrael, Izayoi, Tsubaki, Platinum & Nu-13. The w5C will whiff. w(5C > 6D > j.A > 5B > IAD > j.B > j.C) Works On: Amane, Nu-13, Platinum, Valkenhayn, Tsubaki, Arakune, Izayoi, Terumi, Azrael, Bullet, Ragna, Litchi, Relius, Makoto, Taokaka, Kokonoe, Kagura. Works On But Must Slightly Delay The 5B Before the IAD: Hakumen, Mu-12, Tager. Works On But Can't Get 5B Follow-Up: Carl, Noel. Doesn't Work On: Bang, Rachel, Jin. Note: Against Terumi, make sure to input the 5B > IAD > j.B > j.C very, very quickly otherwise it will not combo properly. Raw j.C > RC > j.C on crouching hitboxes Works On: Terumi, Relius, Bullet, Platinum, Hazama, Ragna, Jin, Valkenhayn, Hakumen, Arakune, Bang, Carl, Makoto, Tsubaki, Tager, Kagura, Noel. Doesn't Work On/Unreliable On: Mu-12, Amane, Nu-13, Izayoi, Azrael, Rachel, Taokaka, Litchi, Kokonoe.
  4. Shoutout's to "givinguponlife". He/she is extremely enjoyable to play against.
  5. It can at times be hard to perceive text in it's intended manner, but Pikachu is most definitely being sarcastic/trolling/joking. He's well aware that any competent Valky who is actually taking the match seriously wont lose to such nonsense. To further point out that he was joking he even stated that he uses "a pink Haku". Agreed. This is what I was trying to point out.
  6. I can and will w.5B Haku's in the air on reaction until they start j.D'ing me. The great thing about w.5B is the quick 7 frames of start-up that can and will beat out slower air normals that have been poorly timed such as j.2C. Of course, a competent player will bait Haku's counters in some instances. However, these are mostly 1 frame counter's that we are talking about. They are meant to exploit and tear apart playstyles/patterns, simply saying that "baiting" them is the answer to everything is next to nonsensical because you're essentially leaving out the fact that amazing yomi is required to do such a thing on a consistent basis (obviously this is dependent on how good the Haku player is). Obviously j.D is punishable if whiffed, as are DP's; that doesn't automatically imply that the tool has no place in the match-up though. Just a less prevalent place since the risk/reward is in Valky's favor and it's one of (if not) Haku's worst counter. If I play a Haku player 10 times and he never uses j.D, then on the 11th game he starts using it. Am I going to get j.D'd a few times? Sure. It's all about the mind games.
  7. Whenever you're above us we tend to w.5B you on reaction. j.D can at times be good in that situation. I can vouch for this.

  9. The new wolf normals seem to lead to 2.5-3.5k which is really nice. Also, 3857 from a 5B confirm in the corner. I am very happy about this.
  10. I'd say that I'm pretty experienced in this match-up, so here's my personal input. -Try to avoid being grounded for an extensive period of time in order to avoid wolf mix-up. -If you're jumping out of his wolf pressure strings make sure to barrier guard immediately or you will be caught with air un-blockable w.5B -j.D'ing w.5B is a possibility but it may be a tad risky at times since failing results in you being in the corner+2.5k damage on average. -j.C is a good spacing tool that can snuff out random beast cannon's due to slow start-up -j.B will almost always trade with Valky's w.5B -Even though j.2C is relatively slow it's a great way to deal with grounded wolf mode due to it's large semi-omnidirectional hitbox, watch out for cross-under w.5B though -Wake-up Sturm Wolf can be zanshin'd on reaction -2C is a solid anti-air but watch out for w7C/4C as he can do it up to 3 times, you'll probably want to use it mostly to catch him jumping out of the corner/pressure -2A is a good poke when dealing with grounded wolf since it has great range -I'd recommend 6A/5D for anti-air purposes -6B can snuff out w.5A, mostly a troll tactic -Try to stay away from using 4C a lot since he can jump over to you in an instant -If he tries to jump out of the corner and 7C/4C out you punish him with hotaru/tsubaki if timed properly -Try to chick guard wolf mix-up if possible, it will make your life a lot easier -Alot of Valky's tend to use blockstrings that involve 2C > 6B, you can yuki/6D the 6B on reaction -6D/5D/6A/yuki are also good for dealing with Valky's 6C shenanigans, watch out though as he can cancel it into wolf on start-up only -A lot of Valky's will transition from w.5A into 5C into wj.A, you can 6D/5D it on reaction -If he runs up to you in wolf mode and mashes w.5A you can 2D it on reaction -If you get hit by 236B~B in the corner, expect to eat about 5k meterless. If you get hit by 6C in the corner, expect to eat about 5k meterless. If you get hit by 6B in the corner, expect to eat about 5.5k meterless. (these are average damage values and they assume that the Valky is doing optimal combos) -Don't tech roll in the corner, as Valky can punish you with a meaty 6B -If he has 50 meter and is pressuring you in the corner watch out for j.C > rapid > j.C fuzzy guard set-ups. General Gameplan: If I was Haku in this match-up, I'd play the spacing game. Try to stay in the air and use your godlike air normals as a means to approach and as spacing tools, this is also good for chicken guarding wolf mix-up. Valky doesn't really have an answer to your pressure so you don't have to worry about mashed out DP's or anything, keep in mind that he can sturm wolf on wake-up though. If you suspect that he is going to wake-up sturm wolf jump out of the way so it whiffs, then taunt him, then fully charge a 6C fatal, then commence rape. Keep in mind that Valky's counter assault is probably his best defensive tool, since it is very slow you can actually bait it as a means to punish. Use your counters wisely or you will be raped by human mode, especially in the corner. That's all that I can really think of right now, I may be missing a few things. If all else fails, just mash j.D/5D like 90% of online Haku's do.
  11. The only thing that Valky seriously has to worry about/take into consideration in this match-up is spark bolt in my opinion (this of course assumes that the Valky has decided to turtle). The best advice I could give to a Tager player is to be constantly moving and not throwing out unsafe shit 24/7 because it will be punished. Yomi is extremely important in match-up as well.

  13. Might as well just post the fun little double gold burst combo that I use, it's pretty practical since it's off of a 2C starter and we seem to get those on occasion. Requirements are (42 starting heat, 2C confirm, and 2 gold bursts) Corner: 2C > 236B > Rapid Cancel > 2C > Jump Cancel Gold Burst > 2C > Jump Cancel Gold Burst > 2C > 6C > 2C > 6B > 2C > tk.214B > 5D/4D > w[j.236A > 236A > 236B > j.236 > 7CD] > j.C > 2A > 5B > 2C > j.D > w[j.B > j.A] > 5D > 5B > 2C > j.B > j.C > j.236236C [9840 damage, builds 81 heat] Edit: I'll mess around a bit later and see if I can break the 10k barrier with the same amount of resources.
  14. Combo does 4158 damage meterless off of a 5C CH. This is the most I've seen any Valky player do meterless in CP. Here.
  15. Well, if you're new to BlazBlue, don't expect to be winning a lot right away. The hardest part about Valky is getting a grasp on wolf mode and how to properly implement it into his neutral since it is a core aspect of his game. It may seem simple, but it's not exactly easy to wrap your head around. Most beginners Valky's usually tend to just run around in human mode and rarely utilize wolf mode, try to break that habit immediately if you possess it. I'd honestly suggest watching tournament Valky players (in order to gain some understanding on how to move around properly), checking out of the combo thread and consistently practicing (work your way up from easier to hard perhaps, if you have any questions about specific combos feel free to ask them here or in the combo thread), making sure that you understand the general game mechanics (bursts, rapids, negative penalty, guard primers, etc check out the in-game tutorial), you may even want to check out the Valky guide in this sub-forum, etc. After you start to get a good grasp on how the game works, you have a few BnBs down, you understand how to use wolf mode at least semi-effectively, etc then I'd suggest going online for a bit and trying to gain some match-up experience and gradually progressing/moving forward with Valky. Try to learn at least one new thing every day perhaps. If you have any questions about the game, Valky's movement, his specific combos, his moveset, gameplan, mix-up, etc then feel free to ask them here and I'm sure someone (or myself) will lend you a hand.
  16. At this point I'm just hoping for at least 4k meterless off of optimal hitconfirms in the corner. Also, Current Japan tier list on the jbb site: S: Taokaka, Hazama, Hakumen, Jin, Litchi A+: Mu, Azrael, Valkenhayn, Relius A: Ragna, Carl, Arakune, Rachel, Tsubaki, Bang, Platinum, Nu B: Izayoi, Noel, Bullet, Tager, Amane, Makoto Obviously this is extremely pre-mature, but it's a nice little first impression. Valky is apparently A+ in this tier list.
  17. Well, technically, Hakumen does get pretty easy damage if you are a believer in scrubby un-optimal meter extensive combos. Those people are usually terrible Hakumen's, though. And yes, Hakumen does have a wide toolset. Heck, if someone jumps in at him, this is the thought process. "Do I anti-air him with 6A, or maybe even 2C? Should I just hotaru him?Maybe even 5A. Perhaps I'll just 5D him, heck maybe I'll even 6D; perhaps I'll even just do a tk j.D to fuck with him. You know what, maybe I should just get him salty with a yuki. Or maybe I'll just mash 5C and hope it hits him properly so I can get that godlike damage." Decisions, decisions. (obviously each option is situational in it's own right, just a little joke/semi-serious explanation/depiction of his toolset in relation to anti-air options) His drive isn't really the biggest thing that you need to be worrying about in all honestly, it just seriously augments his already solid defense and exploits flaws in both blockstrings and playstyles. Though, his drive is probably the aspect you'll see most people complaining about, most likely due to the fact that it's potentially spammable (5D, I'm looking at you), all of his counters have simple 1 button inputs aside from yuki (6D, 5D, 2D) and because getting countered constantly is seriously salt inducing at times (yuki, I'm looking at you). Add on the fact that Hakumen can turtle for quite some time while gaining meter (this is obviously an un-popular trait that is generally frowned upon by a large majority of the online community) and you have a salt inducing character. Personally, I'm wayy more worried about his amazing air normals (j.C, j.2C, j.B), 2C (it's a pain at times), then you got the cheap stuff (tsubaki, hotaru, renka), he has solid pokes with 2A and 2B as well. not to mention the fact that all Hakumen's profusely mash 5C on wake-up in the corner, raw Zantetsu can sometimes be a pain as well, gurren is solid, and yuki is just a salt magnet. All in all, I can see how people get salty over this character. Best defense in the game free, amazing damage, respectable pressure, best special moves in the game free (if he had unlimited meter and could use his special moves at will he would be beyond broken), etc. So here is the real question that I've been meaning to ask. Are there a lot of Haku players/mains on the ps3?
