Nintendo si the after thought because of their own terrible decisions (good riddance btw), not because Sony somehow overcame them and became the big boss, because now Sony and MS are in direct competition with each other and neither one is on top objectively, they trade places every other month or so. Also, Revelator being ON PS3, PS4 and PC (which is unconfirmed) means nothing because there's simultaneous release, as far as many are concerned the game is already old news because it's been out in arcades for over a year and we're only just now going to get it. This needs to change if GG or any anime game is going to be anything more than an extreme niche in the FGC. The lack of cross play/rollback is also going to further splinter the community.
-
The thing is, building a bigger communtiy does not have to come at the cost of another. Instead of complaining that a game more popular than yours exists, you should promote the aspects you enjoy to new players. It's fairly easy to make GG look cool to casuals or the uninitiated because it has cool graphics and music and characters with unique gameplay. As you said, you'll never reach SF numbers, so it's better to focus on growing your community because you will never replace SF.
-
FYI, shitting on every game that isn't Arcsys is only going to make people refuse to pick up GG (or BB, everything I'm about to say applies to that community as well). I see people on DL all the time shit on SF, Smash, MK, whatever and trust me when I say that as long as you do that, you are only hurting the community. Not because you dislike the games, but because you give the image of being elitist hipsters to anyone on the outside looking in.

There is one problem with your idea, and that's that Guilty Gear is not and has never been direct competition with SF. Mortal Kombat, sure, Tekken, maybe, but not Guilty Gear. Guilty Gear's primary audience is the Japanese arcade scene, while SF goes for a global audience of console players. Even if you ignore the fact that Guilty Gear's niche audience make sup 1 tiny fraction of the juggernaut that is the SF community, Arc probably don't care about capturing fans from SF because they have a completely different demographic. It's a noble idea to want to bring in fresh faces to a community that would do well to have new blood, but it's just not feasible for GG. The games and audiences are too different. EDIT: Anyway, here are some things Guilty Gear could do to have more appeal without sacrificing its core gameplay and identity, in my opinion at least. 1.No more fucking endless revisions and rereleases. Capcom, the kings and innovators of this nonsense, have given up on the module. SFV proves that you can patch in new characters and story as extra content instead od making a new version of the game and charging ridiculous amounts for it. While you're at it, stop charging for new color palettes and music. 2.Simultaneous releases on both console and PC. As long as Japan gets the arcade version and the rest of the world has to wait a full year (at earliest) to play it, people are going to hold off on GG. This creates an endless cycle where people are always "waiting for the next version" to pick up the game. Cross play would also help tremendously. 3.Rollback netcode. Some games have delay based netcode and play fine online, but if you want a global audience you have to accomodate them with rollback netcode. As most fighting games are Japanese, they have little issue catering to Japan with delay based netcode as their country is small and has good internet. If you want a global audience, it's time to follow suit with what SFV and MKX are doing. Guilty Gear has plenty of tools going for it to make it appealing, with its fantastic tutorial and mission mode, but until it does these three things I really can't see it being any more than a niche game at best. There's nothing inherently wrong with being a niche game as GG has a very passionate player base, but I don't think it will ever overcome that as long as it stays the way it is.

Hey all, could anyone explain the Story of GG?
Poultrygeist replied to venkman182's topic in Zepp Museum
GG's story is pretty complicated due to just how long things have been going on in the in game universe, but here's the basic gist of it, at least as far as it concerns most of the important cast. A group of researchers/scientists were working on a "Gear Project." Three of these were Frederick, his friend/love interest Aria and his other unnamed male friend. This project ended up blowing up spectacularly with Aria being used as a test subject for an experiment that ended up destroying Japan, due to actions from the unnamed friend. Frederick himself would also become a gear and would be given the name of Sol Badguy. Feeling an immense sense of guilt (hence the title) he became a bounty hunter with the mission to exterminate every gear and erase all traces of his mistakes. This mission also became one of revenge as his unnamed friend, usually referred to as "That Man" also begins cooking up some shady shit that we currently do not know the full scale of. Once you understand that premise, it becomes easier to digest everything else, I think. -

Would anyone want a movement guide?
Poultrygeist replied to ViolaSorel's topic in Guilty Gear General
In this case, I think a guide to anime neutral/footsies in general is the solution because it's so different from typical SF style footsies. What do you think? -

I think this is an overlooked part of learning a fighting game, even in SF you have the frequent beginner mistake of fishing for jump ins a lot. You have my full support if you decide to go through with it. -
What are the most annoying playstyles?

It's not a problem offline <3 -
Of course you don't get that feeling, you play Tsubaki, the exact opposite of Azrael :P
-
He's hilarious. He's a big character who actually doesn't struggle which is rare for this type of game, and the way he just completely oppresses everyone once he establishes himself is just amazing. Not to mention he's extremely satisfying to play because of how hard he hits and because of those extremely loud bone crunching sound fx. He is the gorilla dream.
-
I LOVE IT. It's so different from everything else on the OST. Almost sounds like one of Faust's themes.
-
Azrael is definitely one of the best things to happen to BB, there's really nobody like him in the series. He's shaping up to be very good (again!) in CF too.
-
I feel like someone who's good at SF will have an easier time adjusting to any fighter than if they just jump into it raw. After all, SF is pretty much the building blocks of the genre as we know it.
-
Why play SF? Well first of all, every SF game is different. It may be the same series but each sub series has its own system and style. As for why play it, because it's a very different experience from BB and GG. It's more slow and deliberate, and its neutral is far more reactionary. On paper that may sound boring but it has many advantages. That, and without SF none of this would exist at all.

@ViolaSorel @BlackYakuzu94 I understand, that's why I very deliberately chose to clarify that it was an improvement to me instead of using objective language. My logic behind this is that I feel like GG just throws you a bunch of tools and ties them to the same meter to balance them, which I dislike. In comparison BB ties its modified version of FD to its own meter, and the throw system eliminates the need for throw OS. Improvement is subjective though so that may not be better to you, but it is to me. And that's the only person I can speak for. We talking about what we dislike too? Alright, I'll be fair. I wish they didn't feel the need to update the game so often just to add in more story. I don't dislike the story but it's not the main draw to me at all so I feel like a second class citizen when I have to buy a new disc just for more features I don't really care about. I don't really understand why they can't patch new characters/balance into the console version. That's exactly what Capcom did with both AE and Ultra. And of course it's frustrating when you have certain characters that are just naturally always powerful because of how well they mesh with the system or to be blunt good god am I tired of playing guessing games every time Valk knocks me down.

My favorite part of your post is the implication that BB players play nothing but BB or that you pick it "over other fighting games." But I'll answer anyway. To me BB is a natural evolution of GG in terms of system. The way I see it is that BB took GG's game mechanics and improved them in every way possible to make something that I actually enjoy. There's also a bit of other games in there, you could very easily make out inspiration from Marvel, VSav, etc which are all great games in their own right. This combined creates a system that to me is my favorite of any fighting game. You have a ton of options but they are all very controlled and it all meshes together to create something very tight and organized but also encourages freedom of the player. There are shit characters but the balance in CPE is pretty lenient that allows you to do well with most of the cast relative to how much work you're putting in. When I played games like GG, I appreciated the system for being unique but I found it to be extremely tedious and not to my liking. So when BB came out and did the same system in a new way, I gave it a try,and in terms of pure system I feel it's gotten better with every installment. YMMV on characters though, I know I definitely don't like CPE Relius as much as CP 1.1. Or if that couple of paragraphs offended your sensibilities in some way, how about this answer. I play it for the same reason I play 99% of the video games I play, because I enjoy it more than I do others.

I'm really REALLY excited to see who the one above Izanami is. Of course Izanagi is an obvious guess or some other mythological being. Or it could be a character from one of the side materials. Or maybe Ragna in full dark mode or whatever. But I thin kwe all know the most likely outcome. -

I actually don't think Hibiki is pulling some Starscream shit, what if it's more symbolic than that and something happened to make Hibiki view his boss as a martyr (hence the crucifix imagery). I guess I don't really think they would pull him being evil and treacherous out of nowhere. -

Central Fiction Arcade Plot Discussion (spoilers)
Poultrygeist replied to Chaoschao222's topic in Zepp Museum
Not quite. His objective is to reboot the world, but in order to do that he wants to start by creating the perfect doll. His ideal world is one without the godlike beings, and considering that those beings are the cause for 50% of the suffering in the BB universe (the other 50% being Terumi's doing) so that sounds pretty well intended. He's not good by any interpretation, but he's the only one of the villains with an actual plan and isn't just "lol let's kill everything because EVIL." And no, I do not consider Ragna and BAng to be good people. Ragna is a rude prick with no respect for anyone, and Bang is an obnoxious loudmouth and a creeper towards Litchi. Relius is not a good guy, but objectively neither are they.
