I'd like to personally thank everyone who managed to make it out to UCon@UConn. Without your support, it simply wouldn't have happened. I'm just ecstatic that I managed to bring top NE players together to create tournaments that were not free to any one party. I hope to amass an army of CRT's by next year so we don't have to run a double-elimination 22-man SSFIV tournament on 3 CRT's. Zoob: You're welcome anytime you need a place to stay. I'm sorry you had to leave before Tekken started, I knew how much you were looking forward to that. Vyers: It's not just my teleport-okizeme that needs work...I have to learn to be just as relentless with my mix-up as Marlin was eagerly displaying. I also need to work on recognizing more situations when I can go for the 5H-rebounce-manly-chest-hair rape. Marlin: Keep being beastly and at the same time educational. Enjoy your fight money. BlueNine: Build your stick so you can stop making excuses. Nazgul: I hope your energy was used in a most efficient manner. Tournament Results (minus BB, MBAA was not held) GGAC: 1 Marlinpie : $42.00 2 Vyers : $12.00 3 Light Nazgul : $6.00 4 BlueNine 5 Mr. Quotes 5 Mindgam3 7 Genstov 7 William 9 Furok 9 Dan G. 9 Ryan S. 9 Not J. Absolutely. You have assumed correctly. I just learned that Battlegrounds is actually going to be furnishing our game room with some setups, which is neat. I also learned that there will be free wings at the Union due to our weekly "Late Night" event that is run by the Student Government. Might I remind everyone that this convention is free of charge, and I certainly wouldn't be opposed to running side tournaments...
-
The tournaments are not free, but the registration for the convention is free. Speaking of which, all tournaments are now $5.
-
DAMN YOU SUPER BOWL!!!!!!!
-
I thought the Ranbats were scheduled to be the last Friday of every month...? Anyway, Saturday/Sunday are definitely the best days to come to UCon@UConn. If anyone's checked the floor plan, the room on Friday is going to be quite a bit smaller than it will be on Saturday (where we will have a dedicated ballroom). But, if you want to come, you know, support our vigorous efforts, it's not like we'll turn you away :8/:

I would like to remind everyone that this convention is absolutely and quite literally FREE OF CHARGE. You just need to register, get your badge, and you'll be all set. The only thing that will cost money in terms of registration will be my tournaments. Speaking of which, I'm contemplating setting all entry fee's to $5, and then playing by ear as to whether people would like it raised (to a maximum of $10) in order to make the pot larger. Nerdjosh, are you going to make it? I was assuming that you weren't...since you haven't said anything to prove me otherwise. I really wish I had a solid idea of what the turnout for SFIV would be like, but nearly no one has posted on SRK. You can only get better by playing more people! Even if you get double-eliminated, there's always something you can learn from the experience.

I trust you've found a place to stay?

I have moved Tekken to Saturday at 7:00pm, and have updated the tournament list with our other tournaments hosted by our local LAN center Friendly Fire.
-
Yes, this thread is on TZ. As a matter of fact, I just added a response to the thread asking if Saturday would be more convenient for everyone. Since apparently it is, I'm going to see if I can reschedule Tekken to be run on Saturday at 7:00pm. Just enter the tournament. Beating the winner of a tournament in casual play means nothing in regards to performance under pressure. Man up and bet it if you're not going to enter. REAL TALK. Also, I apologize about the lack of Marvel. After doing a bit of research, it just didn't seem like there was a good amount of support behind the PS3 version. Since DC's and their respective converters/sticks are in short supply, I decided to just do away with it. However, as always, I will make time for Marvel if there is a good amount of support. It's just that only Josh has said anything with regards to Marvel and SRK hasn't really said anything...yet.

The block of rooms that we had reserved for the special rate were released a week and a half ago, since nobody showed any initiative and booked their hotel room 5 months in advance. You can still book your room at the hotel, but an alternative is a Best Western about 7 miles down the road from UConn. Subject thy PM's under intense scrutiny. Also, I'm most probably going to be pushing back the start time of Tekken on Friday, since the one person who replied on TZ said he could not make it in time. Expect an update on that in the near future.

Sorrow shall grip nobody, for I have changed GG to Saturday at 3pm. I have also removed Marvel from the lineup. Also, do note that if people want pots to be bigger/smaller, they can certainly voice their opinion.

...Is Petshop banned?

While practice always makes perfect, I was able to get the loop more consistently by making sure that I activate the j.HS as soon as possible after the superjump. That way, the timing for the dust is roughly around the peak of the jump. After that, get silly.

NEW ENGLAND THREAD *(A fusion of states and Shit talk)*
Mindgam3 replied to Otakuchin's topic in Offline Community
So who has a computer equivalent or better than the specifications of the Taito X2? I sure don't. -
Done and done. Thanks for bringing that up, I completely forgot about BB:EO.
-
When I run the GG tournament, I'm only going to have HnK running and then I will deny all claims that it is not GG. Also, you might as well bring your 360+T6, since I do not know how many setups we will need in the end. Your PS2 with GG is most certainly welcome.
-
I've added a "miscellaneous" section with information regarding setups. In short, yes, we need setups and TV's. I should also create a list for setups...at this rate, this post will be an excellent template for anyone to use.
-
Thank you for the link to the standard rule set, since I was at a loss as to what was/wasn't allowed in Marvel. Concerning HDR, we can only run 6 games at the moment. Either THE PEOPLE will have to choose which game will get the boot, or you'll have to wait a little while I go see if I can run an extra tournament (I suppose it would be a good idea to find out when exactly this convention is closing...). Also, just to let everyone know, I have now posted this thread on SRK, TZ, and MB.

Most excellent! If you need any help doing the dual mod, I have a slew of useful diagrams that might help make sense of it all. It's tedious, but fundamentally simple. All you will need is a steady hand, a bit of forethought, and patience. Times and days for each of the tournaments are now up! I'll also be updating later on with the other tournaments that we'll be offering, just to give people a glimpse of what we'll have to offer in terms of gaming.

http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8180 SFIV and Marvel on the same day?! Where ya gonna be!?
-
I had a meeting with the staff of Ucon@Uconn tonight, and it has been decided that there will be two tournaments per day, sometime in the afternoon. I have to check in with Dan of Friendly Fire (a LAN center affiliated with VGO) to see when and on what days he is running his tournaments and what equipment I would be able to use so I can schedule accordingly. Just be forewarned that they're not going to start nearly as late as the $1 BG tournaments. Since there are two tournaments per day, people should voice what games ought to run on what days. Perhaps GG/T6 on Friday, SFIV/MvC2 on Saturday, and MB/BB on Sunday would be good days/combinations?

This entire post is subject to updates as Vierge and I find out more information. We’re looking to have everything updated and confirmed by the end of the week. If you have any comments/suggestions/complaints, by all means PM me or post up. Introduction: The pinnacle of academia is not to be confused with the absence of gratification. Alas, the fissiparous nature of such concepts is but a mere construction of your subscription to the media. The (chocolate-covered) quarks of February 5th through the 7th will be the host to an amalgam of scholarly pursuit, daring execution, and the greatest victories that any of you reading this post will ever hope to achieve. If you are of quick wit, you have already grasped what awaits you in the blistery northern campus of the University of Connecticut. Hailing from what might be considered a discourse of digital mayhem, let us celebrate our competitive spirit with some good ol' fashioned fighting games. Information: UCon@UConn is a convention based around anime, games, video games, movies, music, and just about any other area of entertainment in the world. It is a three-day event that will start on Friday February 5th and end on Sunday February 7th. During this time, there will be tons of activities for participants including: anime and movie screenings, casual video games as well as tournaments, tabletop games, card games, board games, guest speakers from the entertainment industry, panels open for discussion on a variety of topics, and a multitude of performances both user supported and professional. There will also be a “vendor’s room” open during the entire convention where people can either show and display their goods for sale (relative to the convention itself), or con-goers can walk around, browse, and maybe purchase an item or two. Visit http://sites.google.com/site/uconatuconn/ for more information, such as the convention schedule, parking, etc. Featured Games (We can add/remove games if there is enough/not enough interest. This list is just a default guideline.): Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core Melty Blood: Actress Again Blazblue: Calamity Trigger Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion Street Fighter IV Address: 2120 Hillside Road Storrs, CT, 06269 Convention Hours: Friday 12:00pm - 12:00am Saturday 8:00am - 1:00am Sunday 10:00am - 4:00pm Registration Fee: There is absolutely no fee to get into the convention. However, you must register with the convention staff beforehand. There will be a table dedicated to registration on the first floor of the Student Union. Registration and sign-in starting at 12:00pm on Friday, with the convention officially opening at 2:00pm. Concerning the fighting game tournaments, there will be registration fees to enter each fighting game. The registration fees for each game will then be placed in a dedicated collection of money (a "pot"), which will then be distributed to the winner/top 3 of each respective tournament. Preliminary registration fees for each game are as follows: Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core - $5 Melty Blood: Actress Again - $5 Blazblue: Calamity Trigger - $5 Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion - $5 Street Fighter IV - $5 Pot Distribution "Winner take all" for up to 10 participants. 70-20-10 split for 11 or more participants. At this point in time we are understaffed, so by volunteering you will be helping the convention as a whole run more smoothly. Just there is no confusion, I will say right now that volunteering will NOT get you any benefits whatsoever. This is a free convention brought forth by the cooperative efforts of the students of UConn, so only volunteer if you are interested in helping for the sake of helping. If you're still interested, e-mail brain.falkner@uconn.edu and state your name, what days/times you are willing to help, and what area/aspect for which you want to volunteer. -WE NEED SETUPS! This includes game systems, games (especially MBAA), and TV's. Aside from the three HDTV's to which VGO has regular access, Friendly Fire Game Center (who is hosting the other portion of the video game room) will only have LCD monitors. While this might be okay for games run on the PS3, I'm almost positive that someone will be upset about a lag-related issue. To avoid this, we must bring any and all CRT TV's ourselves. If you wish to bring a setup, PM me or post in this thread. CRT's: 1. Light Nazgul 2. Gonzales 3. Furok 4. 5. Setups Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core 1. Vyers - PS2 + Game 2. BlueNine - PS2 + Game 3. Don't you and I play the same characters in GG and BB? If so, you have an immaculate taste for fighting games.
