  1. Quick question, what console version of VS2 would you recommend?
  2. The AH3 community is for the most part the MB community, and I don't even see that game as an option on the poll. I have nothing against the poll, but I think your reasoning for putting forth the poll as a necessity is flawed. First and foremost, there will only be new interest in GG if people know that others are playing it, which can be done by hosting tournaments and casuals. Secondly, I don't think you understand that a new game doesn't necessarily signify that there will be an expansive growth of the community. Even if there was a new GG, the new does not displace the old. Players come and players go, but it's that strongly dedicated community of 40-50 players that you were talking about that ultimately decides whether a new game fades into obscurity or is kept alive. With a new MB on the horizon, I doubt that AH3 will have any lasting potential since the community that's supporting it now will migrate back to their main game. But even so, the people who would support AH3 past that hurdle know that the first step towards fostering a community is to not be pessimistic about it. We are a community of fighting gamers run by fighting gamers. We can only help ourselves, and having a positive attitude is the key. That being said, my vote goes to GG.
  3. I bumped up BB to 12:00pm since UCon@UConn is closing up shop early on Sunday afternoon. Also, we definitely could use extra setups, so if you have a TV/PS2/PS3/Game, I'll make sure to have your convention fee waived since I'm such a nice guy.
  4. Do you like: -Free venue fee? -Fighting game tournaments with actual cash pots? -Anime? If you answered yes to any of those questions, let me tell you that UCon@UConn is the place you want to be this coming weekend (February 4-6).
  5. I don't think so, but I wouldn't mind running a side tournament or two of cool non-fighting games. Anyway, I've updated the main post with times and dates! Now all you guys need to do is show up. Just a reminder, admission to the convention is free, so you don't just have to play video games while you're at UCon@UConn.
  6. So who wants to play Arcana Heart this fine evening? Edit: Nevermind, we're going to GU tonight...
  7. So, I'm adding Blazblue. However, it's probably going to be on Sunday. I also lowered the registration fee since there were a lot of people who were on the fence about entering but did not want to spend $5 or $10 to play in the tournament.
  8. If there is enough support for BB, I'll add it.
  9. This entire post is subject to updates as I find out more information. We’re looking to have everything set by the week before the convention at the very latest. However, you can be rest assured that all of these tournaments are going to happen on Saturday (2/5/11) and Sunday (2/6/11), but casuals will be all weekend long! UCon @ UConn February 4-6, 2011 The pinnacle of academia is not to be confused with the absence of gratification. Alas, the fissiparous nature of such concepts is but a mere construction of your subscription to the media. The (chocolate-covered) quarks of February 4th through the 6th will be the host to an amalgam of scholarly pursuit, daring execution, and the greatest victories that any of you reading this post will ever hope to achieve. If you are of quick wit, you have already grasped what awaits you in the blistery northern campus of the University of Connecticut. Rooted in the digital discourse of the planet, let us celebrate the competitive spirit (again) with some fighting games. 10. So, I think Meghan and I are effectively snowed into our Willington abode, so I don't think we'll be able to make it to casuals today...
  11. Learning the best time to use pokes to negate an opponent's offense will not help with defense. A poke in this case is more of an offensive option used to reverse momentum, and should only be used after a solid defense has been established. I will second what Kona stated. Learning how to block and how to use Instant Block and Barrier Guard effectively will put you leagues above the 5A mashing Bangs that would rather die than block Also, I would recommend finding out what moves are good for zoning (Hakumen definitely has a few) and preemptively covering the space that otherwise would have been used by your opponent to approach you. An example is Arakune's Bellbug. When used defensively, it forces the opponent to reconsider their positioning in the air and work around it. This allows Arakune to more easily predict how they are going to move and thusly he can punish accordingly.
  12. Here you go. Now go play a good game. Don't settle for anything less.
  13. The Mindhiv3 will not be open for casuals tomorrow due to a lack of interest (sorry Zoob and Why-Disciple). I wish you all have a happy New Year's weekend, full of social gatherings and/or playing not fighting games.
  14. It sounds like you'll actually have to predict when an opponent is going to try and jump out of your blockstring in order to use it effectively...I hope this trend of situationally good moves (as opposed to blockstrings that are also combos that are also guard primer breaking strings that are also tech punishes that are also...)will apply to all of the characters after ArcSys stops dropping acid the night before the release of a new BB edition and gives us a game where all the characters are balanced and/or broken in their own respective ways. I'm a bit annoyed at the high level algorithmic play that seems so common, sans the people who play characters that are crippled in such a way as to require the player to be that much more skilled than the other (The Honda/Cammy matchup could never hold a candle to Rachel/Tager simply considering what moves beat what, completely ommiting raw game mechanics). These are my general waiting at the dentist's office opinions. So, Saturday is a go! I'll also be at Furok's tomorrow, so everyone should come and play games before doing non-game related things on New Year's day/eve.
  15. :3 The next Punch the Universe is pending. The next set of casuals at the Mindhiv3 are this Saturday, provided there's enough interest.
  16. Casuals tomorrow at my apartment! See the NE thread for the address.
  17. For all those willing to brave the impending storm, the Mindhiv3 (456 Tolland Turnpike Apt. 46B, Willington, CT) welcomes any and all travelers tomorrow with a warm electric space-heater and serious casuals.
  18. A DONNYBROOK FOR THE AGES!
  19. Crown, I am coming out of retirement to offer you the chance of a lifetime. If you can beat me first to three in BB:CS, you can win $10 whole dollars! But alas, this opportunity does not come without consequences. Lest I win, I will receive $10 from you!
  20. Well, we finally started GG...At like, 1:00. Here are the results. We didn't run MB due to lack of players, nor the Mexican Knife Fight people were too poverty in spirit and in funds. Thanks to all those who came, and all those who watched the stream! The entirety of the GG tournament was supposedly recorded, so we'll be looking to upload that as soon as possible. BB: 1 L1f3 : $40.00 2 Remiri 3 Mason 4 Why-Disciple 5 Mindgam3 5 HatPerson 7 Silver 7 Zoob GG: 1 BlueNINE : 21.00 2 Light Nazgul 3 Mindgam3 4 Tales 5 Zoob 5 Zorin 7 Master Ange
  21. Umm, everyone ought to know that this event is at an apartment complex, specifically Apt. 46B. When you enter the complex, it is the first building on your left, on the second floor. You can also identify it by the apartment with the giant TV on the porch. I apologize for not posting this sooner, it completely slipped my mind.
  22. LPT most likely isn't coming from what I gather, so please do bring the PS2 just in case he cannot make it. Also, please be known that nobody ought to arrive at my apartment before 2:00pm, for I will not be there to let you in. Also, Zoob, please put the stream URL on the main post for convenience's sake.
  23. I believe we have all setups that we need, assuming that those who have volunteered are in fact bringing a setup. Let me recap: Fat PS3 - Me Fat PS3 - BlueNine Slim PS3 - Dr. Onblast PS2 (Modded) - Me PS2 (Modded) - LPT PS2 (Modded) - Nazgul PS2 (Unmodded) - BlueNine We should get six PS3's so we can hold the world record for the quickest Blazblue tournament.
  24. I feel like this post should have come before you nitpicked her grammar...
