[CT] Carl Clover Tactical Discussion/Questions/Help

That's why I like fighting Haku. You get to play Carl as a mix-up character. :D Also, Solo Carl vs Haku is fuuuuuuuuuun. At least vs scrubby Haku players. His solo combos get the crowd excited way easy. Especially the corner ones. It should also be noted that 5b is a terrific normal. Especially when people like to just block, rather than try to escape. Solo Carl psuedo-pressure: 2a, 5a, 5b jc iad j2c alle-can>whatever -
I still need to get a ps2>3 converter for my stick if'n I want to play you, Eric. Right? I play Litchi a decent amount. Reason why I might drive to play 'dem Springs players is soz I learn how to fight Noel and Haku/Rachel. I neeeeeeeed that experience. I also need to play half. Beating bad kune players is no good.
-
I might actually take up that offer to raid the Springs, if'n I can scrounge up sumdat gas monies.
-
Just think of an airdash as a ground dash, input-wise. Seems like common sense, but it didn't occur to me for a bit.

^quality post. Makes me want to play GG.
-
We need someone that can moonspeak to start raiding japanese blogs and boards. D:
-
Don, I need to play your Rachel and Haku. It's no fun whooping on bad players that don't know how to block. Same with you, Markus. Too many scrub Noels .

Kyle locked my threads cuz he's mean. Recon, wtf are you doing on my character? D:< -
:D Nice. I think in 101/general discussion, we should definitely bring up just how stupid Carl's supers are for beating bursts. If they have been using barrier guard and get looped, it's really easy to just stop your combo/cancel into super. Once I'm able to loop with my eyes closed, I imagine watching their burst icon and just inputting a super as soon as it disappears will work even better. Also, I just realized that I've played you on XBL before, Kyle. I'm IzzyInfamous, if you remember.

r u a cop yet? >.>

Is fermata used to put them back in between you and Nirvana? Thanks for the combo lists. I need to learn the solo carl combos. They're tight. Already took an hour to learn the haku one. :D I have a combo that can do either 2k or 4, costs 50/100% tension, but after 3 hits, it's all guaranteed burstproof. 2a, 5a, 5b, 5c, 6]d[ xx gear super, 8]d[, 2c>214214]d[ ~ 2.1k damage (of course, that becomes ~4k+loop/uppercut practically unprorated if they burst during gear, or probably death if they burst when 2c connects ((3k*2 is 6k, and if you're using this, they probably have less than half health)), or a free loop if they burst when 8]d[ hits) j.2c allecan...>6]d[ xx gear super, 8]d[, 2c>214214]d[ ~ 4.1k damage Pretty much just loop whatever you want into gear>clap>2c>uppercut super. Guaranteed death if they're low on health and don't burst REALLY quickly. Because of proration issues, I'd suggest either only doing one rep of any loop into this, or to omit the uppercut and just finish with an air grab+clap for the last 900 damage or so.

zealousentropy@gmail.com Don't ever hit me up on it, though. I just use it for files and junk mail. Can't wait to see this shiz. :D While I dunno if I agree with above poster entirely, there is something you ~could~ do. Just tag them with a jab/one hit of fueco, and then hide behind your sister. Once you have the life lead (pretty much any time that it's not Haku, low-wind Rachel, or Nu/Kune), you can go into full-fledged defense mode and force them to come to you. Also, I was a bit gone, but I watched Carl vids and took a BUNCH of notes. Something I noticed with good Carl players is that, in most match-ups, they don't approach. Nirvana does. Once she gets far enough along the screen, they set up either an SRK or clap/4]d[, and come in behind it while the enemy is dealing with it. Wanna close distance? SRK+karacan iad does wonders. Also, if the situation is EVER Nirvana-Opp-Carl you have a huge advantage. One blocked 5c=pressssssssuuuure. If they're escaping because they IB and then jump out or something, why don't you just not do the move? They'll go to IB, and you can walk up and grab them while they're still confused. The whole thing with IBing is to prevent just one pressure string from working unconditionally. Spice it up. Throw in some tick-throws. Don't do moves. RC into stupid stuff. Abuse the hell out of j2c. That reminds me: I'm starting to think Carl's best non-Nirvana move is his j2c. Seriously, this move does everything. Why haven't we named it yet? -
Just figured I'd let people know that blocking any of her overheads=free combo for you if she's not covered by the staff. j.b excluded, anyway. If you IB the first hit of her 6c (no staff), I'd suggest 6a>aircombo/grab. 2c 22d viva, 2c loop>throw loop is tight, but you have to be too cool for school. D:

Any really good XBL Jin players frequent this thread? I need to learn how to fight him/maybe how to play as him a little. Carl player. EDIT: Wtf, Jin? I meant Haku. Wow, I'm retarded.
-
Any US-based xbl kunes want to play a Carl? I really need to start learning this match-up.
-
I was wondering why people knew about gatherings that I didn't even know of until last minute. =(

Haters gonna hate. Don't let them get you down. Litchi has her staff, Jin has IB uppers, and everyone ever has enough damage output to bury a Carl that makes one too many mistakes. Carl is shit without Nirvana. No need to feel bad because we hide behind our robot. That's like Cable feeling bad for AHVB. -
I always sj backwards at the start of the match. I just leave Nirvana turned off until Tager is finally ready to walk in between Carl and Nirvana, and then I either 5c, or 6]d[, to put him in blockstun. After that, it's pretty much just wailing on his block until he messes up, and then doing the throw loop. I think it's best to stop the loop when Nirvana's just about to die, if he's not guaranteed dead on the next throw. That way, you have her regaining health without leaving you to deal with 100% tension and spark meter. Umm, aside from that, learn how to CH him out of his sledge. 5c is good at it. You can also IB some of his stuff into a free loop, especially if he tries to sledge. Don't ever panic, and don't ever stop playing really gay. If you drop your guard and Tager gets one combo, it can be baaaaaaaad times for you. Especially if Nirvana is dead. Try to avoid dashing around, ESPECIALLY when magnetized. I know that if'n I get magnetized, I tend to start walking away, letting Nirvana act as a deterrent for pursuit. He comes in, and I tend to just have Nirvana do 6]d[, then wait to confirm it. If it hits or is blocked, it's go time. Just be careful about dropping a move and getting 720'd. =( Don't abuse vivace, don't try to go vs Tager in a 1v1 unless you know your HUGE solo Carl combos, and don't try to have Nirvana beat up Tager. He will win. There's a bunch more stuff, but once you understand just how much pressure Nirvana's presence can have on this match-up, you'll prolly figure it out on your own. Oh, and learn the throw loop, if you don't know it. Seriously, it's too easy on Tager to even pretend to have an excuse.

Carl-Opponent-Nirvana [2a, 5a, 5b, 5c, ]d[, dash in/viva]*n (recommended reset at 2 or 3) That's a pretty basic combo that can later be tweaked for more damage/throw loop set ups. Plus, it works as a crappy pressure string. :D Nirvana-Carl-Opponent 5a (optional) 5b, 6b, 623c, 5b>2]d[, viva/b, (2c>8]d[)*3 A little trickier, but this combo is pretty solid. Also, you'll be able to put it into the throw loop later. :D Carl-Nirvana-Opponent 5b/5c, 6]d[, viva>loop of choice Pretty decent combo, pretty good damage, and puts them between you --- Learn pressure strings ASAP, and learn how to force people to get between you and your robot. After that, just make them block once, and the match should go in your favor pretty quickly. From a pure theoryfighting world, in which we are all perfect and amazing, anyway. -
Awww... That'd be sweet if it weren't a little creepy. I think?
