I live in Flatbush; I will have to take 3 trains to get to your place so I'm looking at a good 2 hr trip. Tomorrow is out, but I will try my hardest to come Saturday, and promptly at 12.

Actually everyone in my group has more than one character that they use seriously, it's just that we're not that varied. My group consists of: Mains: Robo, Slayer, HoS, Johnny (me), Anji Alts: Axl, Jam (x2), Venom, Dizzy (me) I honestly can't tell if I'm a good Johnny player or not; I had one guy come up to me at ANext and tell me I was the best he'd seen, even though I got my ass handed to me by Millia (I won one round though). I am also thinking about solid training methods; what I do now is set the CPU to Maniac and do VS CPU for each character in my GG group. Now I think I should expand to the whole cast, but I don't have the luxury of time to do that daily. Any ideas?

Yeah that SOB does way too much damage easily, can chain supers, backdash cancels....oh no wait, sorry, for a second there I read "Because Slayer is bullshit". I think I have improved myself with Johnny since I created this thread, but I'm finding that I need to study my matchups more. This past weekend at AnimeNext I was able to beat a Robo-Ky because I have a Robo player in my group, but in the tourney I got my ass handed to me by a skilled Millia, who I have no idea what the fuck to do with. I also need to hit my DB FRC more solidly; I have a 50% success rate with it. Hopefully I can record some matches and get some constructive criticism soon.

There was a tourney last year; it was pretty good except when it became dominated by some kid who Sidewinder looped his way to victory.

Edited my post to clarify that all combos are off of throws. I did read the start of the topic, but my main concern is the timing from jD to Ensenga for each character so tips would still be greatly appreciated!

Interesting! I don't usually go to arcades though (CTF) because I can't play stick. So I typically play with my friends from college at their homes/dorms. Back to topic: If I record matches with a DVDR, will that work?

OK here are the characters I fight most frequently. You don't have to help with all, any would do: KY (mid-screen throw): jK, jS KJ FRC, jD, Enkasu Robo-KY (mid, corner throw): No fuckin' clue what to do with this heavy ass SOB. I try the above KY combo but I never get it. Slayer: This guy is a pain, as stated by D4. I'm trying a corner jK, jS, jD, Enkasu Axl: Same as Slayer Jam: (mid-screen thow) jP, jK, jD, Enkasu (this one randomly works, I miss more than I connect) Anji: Same as above Venom: Same as Slayer Thanks!

Can someone give me some tips on landing the 1-Hit more consistently? Sometimes I hit once, other times twice and others I get no ensenga at all. What's the delay like? Should I delay the Dust or should I input the HCF motion while hitting Dust, then press HS for Ensenga? Hope you can help.

Great matches; that's a solid Johnny. Watching you I'm reminded of the fact that I need to tighten up landing my combos off random hits, which you seem to be adept in doing. I'd wanna post some vids of my play for some criticism, but where I play with my friends there isn't access to a DVDR. Are there other ways I can record matches?

What are good opening moves for this matchup? The Axl I play tends to backdash and play keep away with his 5P, 2P etc. I can't really IAD into him because I'm tensionless at the start so I have to wait around, but ironically I have to MOVE around to gain tension so I can block his pokes while I am in the air. Also are there any safe ground options for closing the gap?

Does anybody know what happened to Suzume? These days I tend to see more Bleed and Jonio AC vids. The few AC vids I have seen of him are...amazing. Has he retired or something?

Nice vid; I tried practicing some combos with Jump Installed Divine Blade FRC but it's pretty tough; while I can nail the FRC I can't seem to follow up after it and I end up dropping the combo. I would realy like to master it though; those are some stylish combos!

Great advice guys; I never knew I could actually bait HPB. I'll give it a shot. Now, what can we do about Hammerfall? I've noticed that the Pot players I play tend to use it as a means of escaping coin pressure (and it works most of the time) which pretty much screws Johnny up royally. I think it's this move that aggravates me the most in this matchup.

Buh...I really hate this matchup. Air dashing into Pot is akin to suicide, lest you get your face melted by his Heat Knuckle/Extend follow up. Then once you're knocked down you're in prime position for the Giganter loop/trap whatever it's called. And lord forbid you fail to MC a move, lest you say hello to Potemkin Buster. And let's not talk about Hammerfall going through shit, plus that Force Break of his. Any tips on this match up? Besides outrunning the clock lol (which I should try sometime against the Pot player in my group...) I hear it's the worst for our boy.

Is there anything in Johnny's aresenal that can beat Robo's 6P? The Robo player I fight likes to open matches with them, and I'm tired of either being forced to block it (raising my Guard Guage) or misprediciting and getting hit by it. Please tell me there is lol

:bad: It sounds to me like you are too slow in your execution of JC. When you land the first jS, you must immediately move to the JC jS in one fluid motion. In other words once you see the animation of the first jS connect, go right into the JC and button input at the same time. Do this and they won't be teching out anytime soon. Also, in terms of comboing off throws and 6K: when throwing, there is a small amount of untechable time each character has before they can tech out; it is up to you to get to them before that happens. Typically the heavier, bigger the character the more time you have to catch them before they can tech (4r5 you can correct me if I am wrong on this). If you jump too early, you miss the first hit, too late and they've already teched out. So what you should do is go into Training Mode and throw the cast (or the characters you expect to fight on a regular basis) to figure out how soon after the throw you need to jump in order to combo. While doing this pay attention to the "beat" word that appears when you are comboing (it appears in the area the numbers do when combos are happening). if it is a dark hue, then your combo was not solid and a human player would have been able to tech out easily. Above all, don't get discouraged. Johnny's a character with a significant learning curve. I too had trouble like yours when I started playing him, but after hours of practice my air comobs are so solid that when I fight my friends they go "shit" every time I get them into the air, because they know what's coming and really can't do much about it :bad:

I see. While we're on the topic, what do you (or anyone) recommend for using as oki with Johnny? I use 2D mostly (MCed if blocked), but I'm trying out 3HS as I hear it beats some Shoryus on wake up. Suggestions?

Has anyone ever used Ensenga as an oki? I did yesterday, and it worked; here's what happened: I was fighting my friend's Testament ( ) and it was towards the end of round 3. Throughout the match I'd been using 2D as oki every time I scored a knockdown on him, and when we were both down to a sliver of health I scored a lucky knockdown with DB. This time, I did TKensenga and won the match, because he blocked low as he woke up. I know that this must seem situational as Ensenga is very unsafe, but because of my success in this I was wondering if it might be a viable oki for Johnny in general?

Also, which of RK's moves must be blocked high besides Dust? I seem to ALWAYS get hit with the horse even though I block low...it may just be me though...any ideas?

Two questions; does Johnny have anything in terms of his pokes that must be blocked high besides his awful dust? Also, what can I do to help link KJ into combos that start with either HS or 6HS and follow that up with air combos by FRCing the KJ?
