  1. So guys I've been in training mode for qutie a bit recently practicing my FRCs (on PS2 DualShock) but I still can't quite nail them 100%. I'll hit them like 5x in a row, miss 4 times, hit, miss, etc. Mainly I've been practicing the air DB FRC and the DBT>DB FRC. This FRC is the toughest for me right now. Does anyone have any tips on how to better nail this? I think it's an important FRC as it opens up Johnny to more air options should his DB wiff/be blocked or can be used to bait. Thanks. And please don't *sigh* tell me to get a stick lol it's hard enough trying to become a better JO on pad! lol
  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rhJWidEdOo Guys, check out this new video. Can anyone recognize this JO player or is he new? All I know is, he. is. good. One word: OCV.
  3. I'm definitely down for a gathering with you guys A3; just let me know!
  4. I also play ST on GGPO. I'm not very good though...
  5. I find Axl's 5P frickin' annoying at the start of the round and I'm in neutral. If he's good at zoning, I basically can't airdash into my j.dS and start pressure. It also hits me out of summoning if he can predict fast enough and dashes in with it. At neutral, Axl pretty much needs to control space and stay on top of me. Be careful though, if it's spammed too much eventually I'll see a whiffed 5P, which is an easy Icespike CH for knockdown and (typically) leads to the end of Axl. I'm only about 4 months as Dizzy player, so I don't know too much more than that, but I hope it helps somewhat.
  6. That would be quite useful! Anyway, I'm curious to know what other JO's do after hit-confirming a MFL3U. I personally follow up with an air combo ending in Ensenga. What other options are there?
  7. I know Mike, met him last week actually. I thought I knew how to play JO. Then I met him. Anyway, I definitely want to head out there one of these days, but I get out of work at 7 and I live in Brooklyn, so going to the Bronx when I have work the next day isn't really good for me if you do have a weekend thing though, I'd love to come and see my mediocre JO get manhandled
  8. I know what you mean; I need to expand my GG community outside of my college friends (who are good, mind you, but playing them over and over again doesn't make me expand and learn different matchups for my char). I see you're in BK too, what are? Maybe we can have a gathering with other BK GG players; I know a few.
  9. L1MFU could make a good zoning tool for people who love jumping around. Other than that I'm not sure, I rarely use the other L1's as they are too easy to block.
  10. Hey guys, just wanted to say ggs to everyone I played on Fri and thanks to the peeps that gave me tips on playing stick. Mike, your Johnny completely outshadows mine and I would have stopped playing him had you not given me the motivation to become better. GGs to the Slayer and HoS i played, thought IDK if they frequent DL. To refresh your memories I was the JO player who was playing scrubby because I'm not used to the stick.

Thanks for the assurance fellas As I said before I'm working on making Dizzy my 2nd character, and I'm glad to know I'm learning her correctly (score a KD, oki, mixup, combo, rinse, repeat, win [hopefully]). The Icespike FRC is a BITCH to land consistently though, ugh....

It's funny that you guys are talking about Dizzy being weak; I got a friend of mine mad at me because he thinks Dizzy's mid-range game is bullshit (gatling combos into untechable Icespike). I know that she can't take a hit, but against my friends I do pretty well with her. And AC is the first time I'm taking her up as my second main. What do you guys think? Is untechable Icespike fair? Or should I stop using it so much as a combo finisher?
  13. Thanks 4r5. Also, (and I've learned this the hard way) JO's OD does NOT beat Robo's runing dash attack (not quite sure the command for it; he basically runs into you and charges after you get KD) Not even 5K beats it I think. So I guess if he uses it just...block it?
  14. I actually do throw a coin when he opens with his 6P, but what ends up happening is that we trade CHs. So the "free" MFL2 setup isn't always free, at least not for me... And can someone give tips on avoiding full-tension Robo missiles? When I block them, he runs up and does his command throw, taking advantage of my long-ass blockstun...
  15. I think you're missing the video there lol but I know what you're talkin about. I have yet to use it against a human opponent though; doing the OD right out of MC is definitely a good mindgame tactic but I wonder how quickly a human can react against it...
  16. New hated matchup: Robo-Ky. Every time I think I can get in, I eat a CH missile and basically lose the match. He is not easy to air combo off MFL2 low, and most of JO's pokes wiff over his annoying-ass 2K and 2S.

  18. I've been trying out the throw-jK, jS, jD-Enkasu on those it works on, and so far I only am able to get it off on Eddie. For me it doesn't work on Axl or Slayer. Is there a timing difference between these characters and Eddie?
  19. A3, when you play these causals, are you on pad or stick?
  20. ^ This I have verified to be true. The timing is a bit specific though, because if you're too slow you'll be the one eating the CH.
  21. This, I have found to be quite true
  22. Great job! Out of curiosity (I just started reading your blog btw and have yet to read older entries) I see that you seem to know someone by HH. Is that the HH, pro Dizzy player? If so is he a cool guy? I'm a Dizzy player myself and I learned a lot from him.
  23. That would be awesome; this past 4th ended up not turning out as I thought, and was booked both Fri and Sat so I'm really upset I wasn't able to make this and have everyone laugh as my JO gets manhandled *coughEddiecough* (bad matchup is bad). I'll definitely get back to you and let you know when I'm available.
  24. All the way until Labor Day? Why not sooner?
  25. I can attest to this; I recently entered a tourney at an anime con, and fighting with spectators and with a character that typically arouses surprise when used (the minute I selected Johnny I could hear in the crowd "Wow, someone's actually picking Johnny", etc). I lost to a skilled Millia player, made even worse by that fact that no one in my group plays her so my knowledge of the matchup is slim. On the flip side, in causals I defeated a very good Robo-Ky because I do have a Robo in my group, and I know that matchup quite well. Finding different people/characters to fight against definitely helps. It's just a matter of adapting to the human player's style, once you have experience with their character's matchup.
