  2. yeah full boost has been out for a month now... more importantly why haven't people been playing exvs?? D:
  3. @Oiboi: We didn't use any thing on the stream itself besides some basic text overlays for player names. Going to have to give the stream layout some thought before deciding anything I'm thinking of having the next one in June... and probably not the first weekend.
  4. I would expect May 12 turnout to be smaller for any game seeing as how it's the weekend before finals
  5. The turnout was lower than I thought it would be which was rather underwhelming so I delayed the schedule. I wish more people could have made it out but the impression we made was positive and we have the go-ahead to do this again so there will be a next time =) I'd like to thank everyone for showing their support and thanks to Gamecenter for hosting. For taking on the thankless job of providing way too much equipment and the streams, I'd like to thank vibratingsheep and magz. Also thanks to Brett for pimping out the stream page and being there for the whole Gundam tournament on Skype =] I sincerely hope everyone had fun and my sincere apologies about the shortcomings we experienced. I hope to see everyone at the next one and I'm thinking of aiming for a weekend in June and not the weekend after Fanime. 6. damn what a crazy guy always throwing money at guilty gear lol alright so I went to gamecenter and everything is sorted out, there should be no surprises tomorrow =] @Oiboi how big is that CRT?
  7. Alright thanks, I really appreciate it. I fired off another message over Facebook but here's what I was hoping for. I want to use at least two extra cabs for Gundam so we won't need four out of the five setups in the hallway for another full Gundam setup. This will allow more breathing room for GGAC so we can have at least four GGAC setups instead of the usual three. So to sum it up, I need to know how many extra cabs we can use for Gundam and if we need to bring any extra PS3s to get a second Gundam setup going. EDIT: OK, how big is this CRT? I need to figure out where we are going to put it and if there will even be space. The back room will not be available, so we might just rock with Gamecenter's 1 big CRT and 1 small CRT, and then magz's small CRT. EDIT #2: Inventory updated again w/ extra PS3s for EXVS and I won't be bringing my PS2 w/ GGAC since I'm bringing my PS3.
  8. That's fine I guess, I can just chalk it up to the regular business they might get on a Saturday anyways. I asked a couple times if I could use 8 cabs for Gundam but I never got a response on that. Do you know anything about that 'cause I think they have like 8 cabs normally (not counting the ones already dedicated to Gundam) I'm willing to come as early as 10~11am to help set that up.
  9. ok i'm gonna call it here and not going to touch the translation anymore. i didn't really look at naoto cause i don't know that char but i'm sure it's already up elsewhere and i think my misinformation/mistranslations should be fixed for the most part... need to do some other stuff and maybe take a nap. late

  13. Inventory update! snip please refer to the first couple of posts Please post if you're bringing anything and that it should be listed! Extra copies would be good too just in case. I'd like one or two more setups for GGAC and one extra copy of EXVS.
  14. I would just like to clarify that we here at NORCAL DOGFIGHT do not approve of nor endorse animal violence of any sort
  15. There are a couple east bay heads that come out once in a while, not regularly... but that's a good point, thanks for bringing it up! I'll add information on transportation, it'll be important if some new faces or stragglers decide to show up =)
  16. my vote is a veto on the reinstall by sig did you mean avatar? poverty should be later if it's going to be streamed but after the tournaments you are free to do whatever you please whether it be casuals or early poverty but i was thinking of possibly having a giant team battle after dinner... i'll leave it up to you guys on the day of the event depending on interest, etc
  17. I've posted the tentative schedule and outline of how things are going to go at NORCAL DOGFIGHT in the thread! http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?13973-NORCAL-DOGFIGHT!-featuring-GGAC-and-EXVS-Apr-28&p=1311260&viewfull=1#post1311260 If you haven't heard of NORCAL DOGFIGHT yet, it is our attempt at a new event featuring Guilty Gear Accent Core and Gundam EXVS and it's set for April 28 so check it out if you're interested!
  18. Tentative schedule and event decisions *speak your mind or forever hold your peace! 1pm: signups for Gundam EXVS begins 1:30~2pm: Gundam EXVS 2v2 tourny starts 3:30pm: GGAC signups, random 2on2s 4pm: GGAC random 2on2s, double-elim, best of 1, tourny start Seeing as how Gundam players have had an excellent track record of showing up on time, let's start Guilty Gear later... the earlier you show up the more casuals you can get in though! Everyone should have ample time to get lunch, warm up for and/or show up fashionably late... however please get someone else to sign you up if you are going to be late. I want to stream as much of each tournament as possible and finish them before dinner. We’ll be having two full setups for Gundam so if needed, we could offload some of the beginning matches to the other setup to accommodate for time. After the tournaments, the stream could be ad-libbed w/ casuals for either game, then maybe some late poverty but I definitely think we should get a big GGAC team battle going somewhere in there. Regarding the streaming setup and equipment @VibratingSheep: I think it would be ideal if we could have two streaming setups (like yours and Aj's) so we wouldn't have to move anything around to switch between games but it's not necessary and Aj's setup is a laptop setup, it’d just be convenient. However I think we might be running EXVS on cabs now so I’m not sure how that’ll play out in terms of cables and distance. Regarding equipment, if you're going to bring anything, such as stream equipment, copies of GGAC or EXVS, monitors, game consoles, please post! I will dedicate one of my reserved posts to keeping track of equipment. As a reminder, I’m looking to have two full EXVS setups and Gamecenter can only provide four of the eight copies we’ll need so bring your copy of the game! As usual, you are responsible for bringing your own controller but if you don’t have one, you may be able to borrow someone else’s if enough people are bringing their own controllers.
  19. I'm down for Norcal Dogfight. If someone feels like they have something better, go ahead and post but I want to get Myung to announce this on Gamecenter's facebook already so I'm running with Norcal Dogfight for now =]
  20. I don't know if this has been mentioned here but it's not on the wiki and it should be... Fear not only makes any hit a fatal counter but it also makes grabs unbreakable. source http://w.livedoor.jp/p4u_matome/d/%a5%b7%a5%b9%a5%c6%a5%e0#content_8_23
  21. I talked to Dom sometime before I started the thread and he said he was down but now he's busy on the 28th and won't be able to bring his setup to stream Gundam. I don't think it's an issue but his stream setup is kind of nice since he can switch between two perspectives on the fly. Instead we can just rely on Aj's streaming setup and have people switch off the stream setup for Gundam to get different perspectives which is just fine imo. The next thing I'll be tackling is planning out a loose schedule but before that we should decide on what kind of event we want to run for Guilty Gear. I could also just work out multiple schedules and be ready to improvise on the spot depending on our numbers. I really like the idea of 3v3s but we kind of don't have enough people and I know a couple people can't make it due to prior arrangements so I'm thinking just mostly casuals, maybe random 2v2 teams and/or a big team battle with just two teams. For Gundam, I know I want to stream at least the top six teams instead of just the top three but overall, I haven't given much thought about how much stream time each game should have and how much we should switch between each game. Maybe something in the order of like Guilty Gear casuals, Gundam top 6 teams, Guilty Gear event, then Gundam casuals...
  22. Yeah ultimately the name doesn't matter too much as long as people show up. A cool name would be nice though and well, it's hard to top Norcal Install. As for a regular lineup... I mean whatever we want to play is cool but I'm not looking to blow this up or expand like NCI, especially since we're going to have eight setups for Gundam and we're preparing for GGAC's PS3/360 release. I think I'll leave that to NCI for now but we can talk more about it, I'm open to suggestions. Let's see how the first one goes before adding any other main games though unless there's significant interest in adding another game.
  23. @qwerty: If it's successful, we could offload GGAC and EXVS presence from NCI but due to how any out-of-towners we get for SNCI, a collaboration on SNCIs may be ideal. Also, some people are concerned about dropping EXVS from NCI since EXVS is still in its infancy and needs the exposure but if the game doesn't consistently get streamed anyways, there's not much point of it being there and I think the game could really benefit from having 8 setups at an event instead of just 4. @Sanoshi: We'll try but if we can collab on SNCIs it should be easier to come up to that instead... we'll see! Thanks for your support. @Shining Aquas: Something that just rolls off your tongue would be ideal! @IndigoNovember: Gundam EXVS would be 2v2. Although an internet connection is required, connecting between players seems to be straight up peer-to-peer so theoretically there isn't supposed to be any lag.
  24. Original proposal, last updated Apr 10 2012 As an attempt to alleviate the heavy load that Norcal Install plans to take on, I am proposing a new event which will focus on Guilty Gear and Gundam Extreme Versus exclusively. I haven't ironed out a full schedule yet but mark your calendars for the test run on April 28th at Gamecenter. If it’s a success, then we can have a real premiere event for Guilty Gear and Gundam. Of course, we may also run and stream some other underrepresented games such as Hokuto no Ken, Melty Blood, etc. Why have I proposed this? NCI used to be an event that ran itself and was a great environment to play and learn. However as NCI has and continues to expand, it has become clear that NCI simply can't run itself like it used to. There are too many games, too many people, not enough space, too much to schedule and there’s only one stream. The limited space is also a concern for safety issues such as hygiene, air quality, traffic, fire hazards, but even more importantly, there isn’t enough space for getting casuals. As an event, we plan to focus more on providing an environment where anyone can develop their skills, regardless of how seasoned or new they are as sessions outside of NCI have ceased to exist. The mind-boggling number of games, the stream, and the scheduling conflicts are too much of a restriction. Guilty Gear and Gundam don’t get streamed consistently and experimenting with new formats instead of the usual double-elim singles is sure to result in scheduling conflicts with the stream. As we’ve mostly been running double-elim singles since the first NCI in October 2009, having a separate event would give us the freedom to experiment with new tournament formats such as danisens, the Swiss-system, 2v2s, 3v3s, and/or just a big 10v10 team battle. As for Gundam, we would be able to run eight setups instead of four, we could get more people playing, and we could stream the entire tournament instead of just the top three teams. The name of the event is still pending but we are set for April 28th at Gamecenter. Feel free to throw in any suggestions. Although we will be running a dedicated stream, don’t just stay at home, come out and play as well! Anyone is welcome to show up to play, to learn, or just to talk and get tea. We'll bring the necessary equipment, and you are welcome to bring your own. TL;DR NCI concerns too many games, too many people not enough space one stream too much to schedule the event cant run itself anymore what we could do with a separate event focus more attention on guilty gear and gundam provide a good environment for casuals and learning run experimental events ie team battles, danisens gundam could have 8 setups instead of 4 have a dedicated stream for guilty gear and gundam archived section on danisens What is a danisen? A danisen is a system where you play for points and ranking and it's been done in Japan for quite some time now. It's a competitive event that happens on a more frequent basis (like weekly or biweekly) and everyone loves a ranking system. Since Guilty Gear is coming out for PS3/360 soon, the time is ripe! So how do points and ranks work? Whenever you win a match, you win a point and when you lose a match, you lose a point. Typically whenever you get +3 points you rank up and whenever you are at -3 points you rank down. When you rank up or down, your points will reset to zero. However there is a bottom and you cannot derank further than the lowest rank (1dan ±0). You can only fight players within one rank of yourself. So if you are rank 2, you can fight rank 1 and 3 players but you can't fight a rank 4 player. Your rank is also locked to your character so if you decide to change characters, you have to play at the appropriate rank. What does a danisen mean for us? Given the competitive nature of a danisen, it would be silly to only have it every month. Danisens should really be weekly or biweekly so this is more of a commitment. Of course you don't have to come to every danisen but to the community and playerbase as a whole, it's a commitment. If we were to get behind this danisen event in full force, having a biweekly strictly on Saturdays would probably be difficult so we could have a special event on a monthly basis (e.g. a giant team battle, a single or double elim tourny, a kumite, etc) which is what Xie would do just to mix things up. Of course it would be based on danisen rankings and would affect your rank as well =) Concluding words Danisens are awesome but it kind of requires a commitment from the playerbase. If enough people want to get behind this, I say we should make it biweekly and have a mini-dogfight and a regular full-blown dogfight. The regular dogfight will be every third Saturday of the month, will feature another GGAC event in addition to the regular danisen, and will also feature a Gundam EXVS tournament. The off-event or mini-dogfight can be a day everyone agrees on and it doesn't have to be on a Saturday. Let me know what you guys think!
