In essence, the conditions are: The venue is a private office, not a store We are invited guests, not customers If you are reading this thread, you are invited to attend Guests-of-guests are welcome Clean up after yourself -- there are no employees or janitors Trash bins are outside the rolling door, use the appropriate bin (cans/plastic/garbage) Empty liquids into the bucket before trashing your container Leave glass containers in the nearby box The rolling door will close at 10pm to avoid noise complaints After 10pm, go out the front and around to trash The venue fee keeps the place afloat for us There's no venue fee if you only want to spectate Be excellent to each other and have fun Rules Random Select If you win with random select, you have to pick random again, re-randoming the same char is OK Guilty Gear Accent Core +R Bans: EX characters, Shadow/Gold colors, Baiken/May/Kliff j.D glitch Macros: banning them is between you and your opponent Gundam Extreme Vs. Full Boost In the event of a time over, the match must be replayed

Is anything going on this Friday? I may or may not decide to show up...

Sometimes there just wasn't any game sound but there was still commentary so no worries there. Thanks for providing the stream equipment, I hope you'll be able to make more time to play before the next NCI!
-
I noticed sometimes there wasn't sound? I guess it depends on the setup. Other than that, I think my main complaint would be how much got miscommentated or how many key moments get missed, lack of game knowledge? Like when Master dies in Gold mode, it's not that he won't be able to burst again, he just won't get to burst three times. If he's coming in with full life he's definitely going to build another half-burst, etc... stuff like that. Commentary is hard and well it takes someone who really plays the game in the first place to commentate well.

I am interested in hearing your opinion on this.

Thanks for taking the time to write this out Scott. I'd also like to mention that Southtown was having its usual KOF ranbat on Sunday which conflicted with our own KOF tourny.
-
I've been thinking for some time that we should cut Soul Calibur from NCI, seeing as how their turnouts are much lower than the ones they host themselves. EDIT: April 7 is kind of soon, how about April 14 and May 5th?

just bring it imo. not everyone regs their equip

2v2 premades if you are in a 2v1 situation and they know what they are doing, you can expect to take damage
-
sooo what about gundam? also if you are gonna have a finals day at all you might as well make it a top 8 day... then maybe we can have side tournaments on saturday
-
If you will be arriving at the airport in San Jose, you can take a free shuttle to the Santa Clara Caltrain station and then take the train up to San Mateo which is approximately less than 100 feet away from the arcade.
-
We don't have to cut Melty entirely and right now it's pretty much side tournament status anyways. I know there have been some new faces for Melty lately but the fact is that the scene has been stagnating since MBAC days and there isn't anyone who's been going in hard on the game at all. Melty is totally a pot monster game now... I can't really justify spending the time and effort to go in on Melty anymore, especially with how ECOLE decided on a PC port and on top of that, medicore netcode. The game would do so much better if it was localized and had a console port... however I am quite impressed that there were 73 entrants for the game at FRXV... sad I wasn't there.
-
Yeah people were quite concerned and a few people, including myself, brought up our concerns a long time ago... so here I quote my post from nearly two months ago... Even now, I don't see why things can't be changed, we have two weeks, and there are several cons with the original plan you had. TL;DR of what...? Well it'd be great if we could finish some games in one day. I mean just think about it, those tournaments would probably get less entrants or may not even happen if they were actually run across two days... There aren't any good reasons to split a bunch of tournaments that average less than 32 entrants across two days.

iirc STA is accessible by BART....? GC is right next to the Caltrain

A rainbow step (not a rainbow dash) is essentially a sidestep which means it will cut guidance on incoming attacks on startup. This includes melee attacks as well so if their melee attack is out, you could sidestep and make it whiff but of course they can rainbow step their attack as well if they have the boost. Since you can cancel melee moves into it and you can do anything off of a sidestep (including another sidestep), it's often used as a combo extender and/or as a way to avoid getting cut out of your combo. Using a melee attack and rainbow stepping can be a safer way to approach than if you boost at them because you can't cancel a boost dash into a sidestep. There's also the option of rainbow stepping and then from there you might boost/hop away and/or fire a projectile. Have you read Brett's guide on the game? It goes over core principles of the game theory and some key basics: https://sites.google.com/site/unlimitedbrettworks/gundam-extreme-vs/gundam-exvs-guide

melty activity in the bay area is at an all-time low. allow me to remind you guys that i am the current TO for melty and i don't even play melty anymore as my main game is gundam now. and even if there is a chance of getting enough players to run a tournament, i'm the only one bringing a setup. let me also remind you guys that tsubasa, who was a key contributor and benefactor for the melty scene, now works weekends and can't reliably participate anymore.

in the interest of those who only want to attend for one day, i think we should try to finish what we can all in one day ie guilty gear...
-
MB out imo AH3 out imo idk about GG but it will still get entrants proll which leaves Gundam, BB, KOF? i think 1 day is still doable but BB needs to be run faster cause last time there were too many delays and BB took until 2am
-
the MB scene has also moved on to become gundam meisters ok maybe just me david and yuji but you know thats enough lol anyways while i'm here, here are some gundam links fucking sickass heavyarms player, i wish you didn't have to get a 10 win streak to upload replays god damn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WY-6a3sbXc tenkai translated a fundamental techniques video, everyone interested should check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlJidOS8RIE
