  1. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cardboardrobotgames/pocket-rumble-new-2d-fighting-game-for-pc-and-hand looks like they're going for it again. vita/3ds stretch goals, some really interesting-looking new features. i got to mess with this in pre-alpha, it's really nice.
  2. Well, looks like the game got some last-minute attention on SRK (and Destructoid). Maybe a possibility that they'll be able to make this happen in the last couple days? Apparently they're looking to do a 3ds version now, too. That's a stretch goal, but it looks like they'll do it anyway, assuming the game gets released and has enough sales.
  3. Well this seems to have gained ~700 dollars in the past day, so that's encouraging at least! And it's not entirely fair to compare "moves" in Chess to "moves" in Divekick. I can make a decision to wait for 3 extra frames in Divekick or whatever, and oftentimes that's a totally relevant and important decision! Fighting games, even the super ultra basic ones, have a huge amount of room for that kind of 'expression.'
  4. Shit, that stuff happens in Chess lol. You actually need to memorize long move sequences because deviation from most of them means you're just dead. It takes a lot more than that to kill a game. I do think that Divekick's simplicity will make it pretty difficult to avoid lopsided matchups, which is pretty unfortunate, but it's so approachable that people should have no problem just picking up a secondary. Anyway, there are bad matchups in plenty of games, and they're rarely too much of a deterrent for most people. As for Pocket Fighter, it looks like there are plenty of "balance knobs" to turn, so to speak, so if the team decided to put in the effort I'm sure they could end up with a pretty balanced roster. And d3v, I think I saw on SRK that you put together an article for this. Much appreciated, hope the editors let that one through. I think this still has a chance if it gets front paged, it went up by like ~$200 over the past day which really isn't so bad considering that nobody is reporting on it. Eventhubs is more interested in posting about Keiji Inafune's completely FGC-unrelated Megaman stuff or whatever. =(
  5. It doesn't even need that much 'traction' to make its goal, is the thing. $16000 is peanuts compared to what Yatagarasu pulled, the difference is that Yatagarasu had everyone's immediate attention due to sites like SRK posting featured news about it the day of the Kickstarter. I'm disappointed overall just with the whole "report on things based on how popular they might be" mentality, but I understand that that's how SRK wants to operate so I won't bemoan it too hard. I just think it's awkward and strange that something like League of Fighters, a game we know curiously little about (next to nothing, I think?), gets this big featured interview on the front page, and meanwhile there's not the slightest peep about Pocket Rumble (where we know the game's overall style, subsystems, control scheme, basic character playstyles, seemingly-finalized music and art, etc). I'm totally 150% in favor of League of Fighters getting that attention, by the way, but it's just strange to me that that's how it works out.
  6. ^ nobody here said it was, so it sounds like you're trying to start some sort of unrelated argument or something? Anyway I think PR is a significant step up in complexity from Divekick (I do think it will have staying power so I disagree with you there, but yeah like you said, a different conversation), but not enough that it'll come off as "intimidating" like, say, Skullgirls has. So I think that even if some of the more 'hardcore,' subsystem-craving players aren't entirely satisfied, it could be a much-welcomed "stepping stone" for people at entry-level; you look at some of the other stuff people are excited about and it's all descended from the most hardcore shit to the FGC's name. Skullgirls is an "easier" MvC2 with longer combos and more complex character design, yeah, good luck with that. Yatagarasu is, what, Third Strike and SNK games? Even that fucking MLP game looks like it's got long combos and Melty Blood pressure for days. It would be nice to have more of a middle ground there.
  7. I think the era of "I don't think this game has enough options to be competitive" is over with the success of Divekick, but maybe that's just me!
  8. Kickstarter is off to kind of a slow start. Really hoping SRK front pages it sometime soon so things turn around! It's notable that it's also on Steam Greenlight, so upvoting it there would be a good idea: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=167646774
  9. game seems smart, they seem to be focused on the right things. i hope they figure out a way to get more publicity for this.
  10. The choppiness of the intro animations looks like unintentional lag to me. I'll be surprised if they stay that way.
  11. sup. probably you already know this stuff, but whatever: summary as a former BB player who hasn't played much GG but watches lots of videos: seems awesome, seems like guilty gear, pretty as FUCK, but i hope hitstop is reduced.
  12. I know PewPewU was playing CT online for a bit and had a decent Rachel (only saw him for a bit though). he talked about melee, but it was only like a year ago that I realized he was actually an upper echelon player or whatever. I don't know what sort of skill transfer there is between the games, but I have to imagine melee players just don't even remotely worry about the movement aspect of the game. you have to be so fluid, Blazblue has got to feel almost sort of limiting in that respect.
  13. other than execution requirements, the two things I always hear regarding Guilty Gear versus Blazblue are: 1) Guilty Gear has footsies 2) Guilty Gear has throws that don't suck shrug
  14. is youtube uploading of the streams something we can expect for the future, or is it just a one-time thing? my connection is terrible so I'd much rather watch them on youtube than having to load up entire 1-hour chunks at a time in the archive.
  15. Supplying content for Dustloop: good Expanding content to SRK/other sites to diversify interest: better Going to tournaments: best mmmmk.

  17. You know what I would love? In-depth matchup analysis in video form. Like just take a match (american, japanese, whatever), add commentary, woo. Or maybe something like Super Turbo Saturdays would be cool. I would watch that. Blazblue, Guilty Gear, either way. Like even for matches that already had commentary I would watch/listen to that. Take EVO top 8. The commentary worked for what it was, but there's a lot of nuance that couldn't be captured on the fly in such a short span of time. That would be a great place to start, actually. A lot could be accomplished by just taking basic shit and putting it in spoken-word form with some basic in-game visual aids. I feel like this wouldn't take much work, just a little motivation!
  18. was anything from guilty gear recorded?
  19. hopefully this wakes japan up and gets them to come over here more often for the game. super amazing play from spark and LK as terrifying as always. wish we could have seen more east coast reps, but that's okay.
  20. the main one is located here: http://www.ustream.tv/evo2011 it is being done by Team Spooky.
  21. so let me get this straight. the entire blazblue tournament is going to be streamed side-by-side with mvc3, and so the only way I can watch it is if I either don't watch marvel, or "durrrr watch both streams at the same time"? I'm really hoping they archive it, or get it up to youtube asap, but I kind of doubt it. =/
  22. Yeah no transportation makes me a sad man. Haven't played Blazblue in forever, just started picking up Jin's new combos though. For some reason. Trying to get decent at MvC3, but the online is even worse than Blazblue's so >_>;
  23. will try to get a ride to this I guess, I'll be in Minnesota though. whatever. and apparently just 10 entrants at Focus Fire? yeah, I'm definitely making Marvel 3 my main game when that comes out. well, if it has good online at least =/
  24. not much response on SRK so far, we'll see what happens though. =(
