Montreal: Le Thread Generale Pour Weeaboo Fighters

They sure did, so did the Nemesis stuff. But that was just the catalyst, what's important is that we're actually doing this, and not just whining about being excluded of EVO. It's the next level, imo. -

SKD. I might come out tonight. I do say might since I need to get up early tomorrow. Man, I have to say I'm kind of surprised, lol. We got going because of a suggestion I had and now we're doing it. A big thanks to Kaeru (especially for the logo), Pedro, Brice, and the rest of MTL for making things happen. Good shit, I <3 you guys. -

Yikes, right in the middle of exams, lol. I'd say either is fine. My exams are likely to be in the morning if on the weekend of the 14th, so we can do that. If it's at night, well, crap. Won't be there tonight. I'll be coming more often since I'm staying like 30m away from Foonzo until end of Feb., but tonight's not good. -
Chin v. dora was good. It was all good. Nah, we don't need their names. They don't matter. Chin will beat them anyway.
-
Good to have ya Moy. Come for the counters, stay for Hotaru.

Wtf? How can you break a pad per month? I've had the same two pads for the past 3 years, and they're still like new. I've played e'm to hell and back, too.

^ They'll show you next meet. Best done around the time you're about to leave for max effect. ----- Also, JF, BEAST RACHEL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=St5nAxJPFA0 You best learn how this guy plays. I want to play a Rachel like that. :D -
Man, I got in some time with the new Haku tonight, and I'm starting to see why he's considered S... Take it this way. It's Hakumen, but without his CS2 limitations, and he's got an anti-air of sorts in 6a now. Dmg, huge corner carry, AA, good pokes, Gdlk j.B, good star gain, etc.... This dude's a beast. Carl definitely feels easier, so I agree with that. I played vs. Relius, but I don't know the character, so no comment. Zoners... Who cares? Block 'til you find an entry, then blow your wad you saved up. He's got the Void to boot. Same as in previous games, except easier. I suspect Ragna will still be frustrating, but hardly impossible. It's a spacing thing, and Ragna got better, so not much to be done here. Anyone else, troll with j.B. Seriously. It's that good.

Great meet, guys! :D Kaeru, keep the fire Tamashi burning. Love the logos. Lololol @ S tier Hakumen. I beasted with no effort. I'm all "wtf?" after CS2's limitations. I need to play Kof. Looked like fun. Brice says execution is a mofo, though. Eb was all over that Playboy Iron Man cover. He should hit on R. Downey, for real. xD Sounds like tourney's going to be in the first/second week of April. Let's get it going! I think these have been some of the best meets ever. Love Foonzo's atmosphere. 100x better than NCBA. :D -
Ok, so I got to play the new Haku some more. All I have to say is: lol. I mashed buttans tonight. Just doing wtv on reaction. I won every single match save for one. I'm hella rusty on top of that to boot. Great dmg, great meter gain, great 6a, beastly j.B, awesome corner carry combos (which are super easy to mash out too... A monkey could do e'm). I have absolutely no doubt about his tier list position as being S. It's like they simply took away what crimped his style, and he's suddenly God mode. Feels good, man. :3

I'll try and be there tonight. Got some stuff to take care of that might make me late (think 8pm), but I'll try not to dodge. -
This. It's about time. ----- I'm taking the chart with a grain of salt, but it seems to be pretty in-line with other sources/lists I've seen, so... *shrug* All I care is that Haku and Valk are top now. Pringles. :3 ----- Anyway, Ragna does seem pretty solid this time around. Reference vids: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY8_zOyv1ls Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc0_9DXhYAo Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrgoK4fiAq0 Final Part It's an FT10 with Chin (God Bless) vs. Sakamoto (Ragna). I see nothing to suggest that Ragna isn't solid this time around, but the matches do make me question whether the chart's take of 4.5:5.5, Haku:Ragna is accurate. It looks more equal to me. I suppose the usual Ragna/HK matchup frustrations lend themselves to that.

It's my dad's B-Day today, so I won't be coming. Might pop in Thursday though. Eb, you can always come in at 8:30pm, right? An hour or two can't hurt, eh? Eh? :3 -
MOAR CHIN!!1! :D I -- I can feel it. A couple more vids and I'll have a jaw like ol' Arnie's. Next thing you know I'll sport the accent too. But yes, last match of first vid is tense! Very good stuff. I'm stealing the Chin Corner Pressure. Too good. Second vid is also very good. Nearly an OCV, they never stood a chance. <3 Chin.

This is... Really awesome of him. Now we're committed. No backing out. Eb, you're going to have to seal those Ultimate Ninja Dodging skills! (Which are unbecoming of any true Hakuman anyhow!) So. I'm seeing march break, sometime in April and sometime in May being bandied about. What's best for everyone? March break is uneven for many since it doesn't fall on the same date. April can be Uni exam time and some of us may be graduating (like yours truly). May is summer job and/or career time. Tough call whatever the case. I propose end of April or March break, whichever is best. End of April should be right after exams, and right before jobs kick in. March break is the lull in the semester, so that's good too. So it depends. @Pedro: I'll bring it up next meet if no one has. Let's get the ball rolling, MTL. We need to show that we're not just words. Hyyyyyyyyyype! -
Shippu.

It's his consistency. He consistently wins, and that's what counts. He's one of the few players I've seen break the 800 PSR level, and while he's dropped a bit, it isn't anything significant. Besides, there's a lot of conditioning that we're not seeing here, so some stuff they do might seem weird. Anyway, good stuff out of him. Best Haku I've laid my eyes on. A-92 is supposedly best, but we never see any of his vids, so wtv.

That'd be awesome! I dunno what Jin wants to discuss, but please leave a report. It'd be cool to have everyone on the same page. Wa ga na wa Hakuman. They're stylistically fine. Great job on the poster, bud! However, aren't we going for an imitation of Ragna? I think that's what's wrong. -

You know what I like best about this thread? People care. And that's all you really need. The will is there, but sometimes you need a catalyst to get it going. So perhaps being excluded from EVO might turn out to be the best thing that could ever happen to North American BB. Let's keep these ideas flowing. But we especially cannot forget that we have to capitalize on them. This can't just be about ideas, we also need guys who get stuff done like Stickbug. He hustles, gets tourneys going, gets the community together. That's awesome, that's what we need. I firmly believe there is a future in FGs as an "e-sport". I also firmly believe it should be as much about the people as it is about the games. If people care about a game, it should be represented no matter the number of participants. Forget money. It's about the people. We'd be glad to have you, dude. We'll get it going asap. MTL is full of budding talent. It would be a waste not to capitalize on it. -

This, this, and this again. I think there's too much emphasis on NAHs not coming out. Like it or not, BB is exclusively a JP-arcade marketed game. The appeal to competitive Westerners is not really taken into account as far as I know. ----- But that aside, YA'LL NEED TO COME OUT TO MONTREAL!!! Seriously, I'm surprised at how vibrant our scene is despite all the doom and gloom going on. We're also setting up our own tourney which will hopefully happen sometime around March break. Come out to Montreal, and we'll have a blast. We have strip bars on every block of the city, great food, and awesome people. Need I mention some fine and excellent BB players, too? Let's have a blast and show the world BB can have a great community, too. -

Hmm... I thought what Rhannmah said was excessive, but there's some truth in there. Overpriced food... Understandable. The place is not big, and it doesn't attract ppl like a Subway or Starbucks. I'm ok with this. Bad setups... Yeah, it seems like they had something else in mind when doing the renovations. It is true that they shouldn't just cater to us, but I have to wonder if their couch idea wasn't a bit optimistic? It's a very nice design (excepting low lamps), but not very conducive to competitive play. Not telling us anything... I can't deny there's been problems here. The CRT's, moving stuff around, etc. It would have been cool to consult us, too. I'd like to think we could have maybe pitched in to help as well. ----- But overall, I think they're just trying to run a business I'm frankly surprised managed to survive so far (doesn't it cost like at least $75k/year to run?). They aren't out to get anyone, and if they overlook something, well, they've got a lot to take care of. If they misstep, I think it should be our duty to tell them what's up so they can improve on it for next time. If they don't learn, it's their loss, right? But at the same time, if we don't tell them, then it's just going to be a shitty experience all the time, too. It goes both ways. I think that's a given, lol. The style you play is relevant to your personality (which is a point I expounded on in my now defunct thread on creativity. >_>). By day I'm your regular salaryman. By night, I'm THE GODDAMN HAKUMAN! Justice to all, and no mercy to those who disregard the Law! WITH BLAZING JUDGEMENT I CUT OATHBREAKERS AS ONE SHOULD CUT GOD If it weren't for Kaeru, I'm not sure I would have discovered motorcycles, to be frank. <3 Kaeru <3 -

It's a good article. I feel it really has more to do with BB not taking Westerners into account for its playstyle than anything else, imo. It's a game geared towards JP arcade players first and foremost whereas SFIV was directly marketed to the US. Being NAH or whatever doesn't have much to do with it. It's simply not a game people play like they play Marvel or SF. So the "demographics" part is probably the bit I agree most with, but only in the sense that it doesn't target the kind of players who would want to come out to tourneys. :\ Regardless, we do need our own EVO. Only good games. None of that SFIV crap. Bring in the Kof '98's and SFIII: 3rd Strike, and let it be known that we take on what's competitive, not just what's popular at the moment.
