  1. Alright i'm finally home. MTNG, for me, is what i've always been saying since the very first day. Bringing you all together to meet each other and to experience other people. Getting you all to broaden your interests is bonus. "Where all of the BlazBlue players? In your houses? Nonsense! You're coming out to Game Galaxy in Antioch!" And in this goal, this event, this community, and my goals have all been successful. No large wall of text needed from this guy. *salute* I've got friends in each one of you and all of you have friends in each one of us and good memories to boot. Whether it's making fun of each other, collecting funny quotes, finding the Mystery Arby's, Jackie's Mom Adventures, Road Trips, or anything, it's all an experience that I want you all to enjoy and share with each other. Awww.
  2. I'm comparing similar situations because that's the material I have. I'm not saying they didn't place for no reason. I'm the biggest advocate of "playing against someone = getting better". Also the entire Nashville crew is pretty good at the games they play because they are practicing with each other. They don't really talk about match ups past a "hey what is this" for a day or two something you just said you are against. I'm -only- refuting the point that "talking about the game on the forum = progress "
  3. Because we don't talk about it on the forum for weeks doesn't mean it isn't there. Tennessee thread on SRK all we/they do right now is argue about how stupid/cool SFxT is. Before that, we were talking about SSX. Before that we were talking about Soul Calibur and KOF and Casa Fiesta restaraunt. And then Patrick gets 13th in STreet Fighter, 17th in KOF, Shin Blade gets 5th, Lil Majin gets some other high placing at Final Round. Mekkanic wins some other (out of state I believe) street fighter tournament. Astaroth had that victory in UMvC3 that we all saw on event hubs. I don't agree with the notion that "if you're not talking about it on the forum, you aren't progressing"
  4. Star wanted to play SFXT and sighed when he saw I took it out of the lineup.
  5. What i'm saying is, practice and learning about the game and how you can out-think another player and playing against a person is better for your skill than sitting in training mode doing a combo video any time. There's always something else you can learn, whether it's about the character, or about how a particular player performs. DON'T TALK BACK TO ME, I CAN GET TO THE THIRD LEVEL ON THE IRRITATING MAZE ARCADE GAME. Which the Game Galaxy has, now, and we're going to be going crazy on it all day. You know what else Game Galaxy has that you might not be in the know about? The Simpsons. ..... I'll let that sink in for a sec and then repeat it. .... .... The Simpsons arcade game. Yeah. They have it. Was there supposed to be a tournament on the 31st? I think we're all just gonna be crowding the Simpsons cabinet. Papstr if you still have Nazi Madness, can you bring it with you on the 31st, please? I wanna play some Akatnazi Mania, especially with Kain coming to visit. Suguri has a high chance to be on deck, as well. Main post has been updated.
  6. Practice playing, Getting matchup experience. Forget the combo video.
  7. Patches in Snes. Similar to cartridge tilting
  8. All I'm saying is you guys should get a twitter, follow me and Game Galaxy and log in to check at least once a day. If not for the tournament musings, but for the random junk I post. Samurai Kirby is making a return for this years MWC. Is anyone going to dethrone Papstr?
  9. HYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYPE MTN: THE RETURN OF KAIN
  10. VENOM STRIKE VENOM STRIKE TORNADO KICK DOUBLE STRIKE VENOM STRIKE SURPRISE ROSE
  11. Hey bro I always take my pants off to play GameCube, I hope that's cool. Have a Natty, bro.
  12. Who is sanctioning them? I mean... 10,000 a week is a lot. Is that a winning team take all or is it payouts or what
  13. Did not know that. My bad. Go go e-sports
  14. I'm not going to argue with your friend for you, but look at the SRK calendar. Every single day is full of events, EVERYWHERE. Online moba games don't have the number of tournaments. Consider the payouts of all these tournaments combined versus the once in a blue moon tournament. Fighters. Community size? Of fighting games? Less than ten million? Don't make me laugh.
  15. Speaking of this I kept trying to call Midnight "Naimat" the entire Final Round trip unintentionally. I actually did it once but managed to catch myself all the other times.
  16. Hahaha this made me laugh out loud at work cause that's exactly what he does. I'm enjoying this conversation. You guys already know my stance, I preach it every tournament. Mingle. Merging @Volpe: they do. Sponsored players. Starcraft is South Korea's national sport. I can keep naming examples. Don't denounce golf, though. You can make anything sound negative. Lemme use your wording. "If people can play video games professionally, why can't I play golf the same way?
  17. You sound like a hipster. I could name lots of games that are in any area below "good" that no one plays and I can name any "good" or "excellent" fighters that do get the attention they deserve. I can also do the reverse of bad/popular good/unpopular . It has nothing to do with how "good" a game is. It comes down to its mainstream exposure. This holds true with anything, not just games. Books, shows, hobbies, travel areas, restaraunts.. To reiterate, I am not asking you to rationalize why other games get/got better turnouts.
  18. Jackie you don't know anything about SFxT, just saying. I hear all of you guys.
  19. CopyPasta + Additions from the MTNG Thread MTNG Side Shoutouts for da FINAR LOUND ShinBlanka: Ten Thousand Ups to you, man. Ten THOUSAND Ups. Best part of the whole event was the standing ovation you received during your opening speech. Kyle: May Dittos dolphins everywhere. Makes me wanna play Dolphin Blue in the arcade! What's Dolphin Blue? Think Metal Slug. .... .... But with DOLPHINS. Good stuff making Midnight earn his victory in BlazBlue. It was so close, I couldn't root for anyone. Eshi: BIG BIG BIG UPS TO SUPREME MASTER ESHI AND PETER. Dude you letting us stay over pretty much is the only reason we were all able to go in the first place. I am very, very appreciative of you two for your support and trust. Thank you for enabling this whole endeavor. Play more Tsubaki. Bears Are Scary: I will forever use a different synonym every single time I state your name. Dude I was with you on that Arakune match. Tager grab is BS, why does Gadget Finger magnetize, anyway? Fish Bug, Bell Bug, and Bat Bug are the best friends ever. Skeletal Minion: You're a pretty cool dude. And what I say, goes. You're welcome to Tennessee anytime you want to show up. (hint hint MWC hint hint) Papstr/Midnight/Klein: Maaaaan, I gave you guys so much crap the entire trip, it was hilarious. I hope none of it was ever taken as me trying to be hurtful. Road trips are meant to be awesome and i'm glad you all enjoyed yourselves. You now have a national under your belt! Eh! Eh! *nudge* Eh! I had a great time with you all and would do it again. Good S to Papstr winning a match at a national tournament. Good S to Midnight getting.. I think we figured out top 16? in BlazBlue with no practice and riding on Litchi's hair. Good S to Klein for not letting defeat bring him down. Good S to Suguri for 6 hours. My new stick works with it. DUDES I FIGURED OUT SOMETHING NEW. MOST CHARACTERS HAVE DASH SUPERS, TOO, WTF MAN. A WHOLE NEW LEVEL OF YOMI JUST OPENED UP. aka more tools for me to abuse you guys with. Tad: I love you, man. Hanging out with you is the best no matter what we're doing. Whether it be playing games, talking about games, talking about sticks, talking about communities, eating Taco Mac, watching Papstr get trolled endlessly by a waitress... everything is awesome with you. *thumbs up* Now where's my thirty awards, just kidding. Allison: Call me! (Looking back on it, I could've handled us a little bit better, but it's a work in progress) I think that's everyone, I might be missing a few. Awesome tournament, guys. I loved being there. The crowd yelling "SONIC BOOM!" for Guile players, "whack whack whop whop whack" for Maxi's, the general chillness of the top players. I talked to Justin Wong briefly, Reynald about KOF, MWC, sponsors, and his mustache, got pictures with Sean Miyagi, The Answer about MWC and sponsors, and a bunch of other players including all my opponents into attending MWC or at least seriously considering it. PROMOTE THAT S. I could talk on and on and on about my experience, and about how it rekindled my drive to not only play fighting games, but COMPETE in tournaments as well as run them to a much higher degree than I already do, so i'll just list notable moments of the trip that I haven't already: LOG TRAP Chris G getting DQ'd into loser's brackets haha Shinblanka getting a standing ovation from the --entire-- venue from his speech. Massive amounts of Dairy Queens to all players. SHINBLADE BEATING BOTH THE ANSWER AND REYNALD AND CAUSING THEM TO FIGHT EACH OTHER AND GETTING FIFTH IN KOF Thunderstorms, "SO LONG, MY FRIENDS! I do what a man must do!" and taking my Last Walk while like 8 people observe solemnly. Secret Underground Tunnel to the parking garage I found the day after I got drenched saving you punks and your sticks. The only waitress working at the Westin. We love you. Bernice knows what's up with ranch dressing dip. Grouchy is pretty fuggin' Grouchy that he has to close on Sundays. NOS providing free NOS drinks, lanyards, and bumper stickers(I wore one on my back, Saturday) and a Twisted metal 4player setup was awesome. And so much more than I can remember right now while on the spot. Point is, if you didn't go, you seriously missed out on a great experience to be around 800 people all doing the same thing. I didn't take many pictures, but here you go: http://photobucket.com/FRXVMilln Edit: I do -not-- cheat at Munchkin. You guys are just mad that I exploit the rules to very last edge, like a true munchkin should!
  20. Wow this is the deadest the thread has been in a while. What's everyone doing? Star: We all know where he is. Training Mode. Naimat: Kroger Jackie: In his mom's pocket. Papstr: Ditto GG Appointments on Spring Break Tad: Middle of Nowhere Volpe: In the void. The white void. Drinkin' Sun Drop. Klein: Same thing as Tad? Where am I all the time? At my store. Turnouts for Final Round are disconcerting for what we do here. See Below. Street Fighter: A Crapton. Over 400? Marvel: Same thing. Over 400. Soul Calibur: I dunno, I never caught the number. Astaroth? 250+ King of Fighters 13: 170 192. 22 got DQ'd for not showing up MK9: Lawlawlawlawl I'm not sure how many entered. It got like no hype. I didnt even know they were running it until I looked over and saw setups. Tekken 6: 103 Melty Blood: 73 BlazBlue Extend: 53 3SO: 48 Tekken Tag: 32 Melty Teams: 13 teams x 3 players = 39 Marvel Team: Site says only 8 teams, but I know there had to be more. No listing for Guilty Gear entry, since it was a side tournament. Edit: Smash tournaments Pound 4 of 2010 had 348 Melee entrants, Apex of 2012 had 410 Brawl, 330 Melee. Basically what i'm getting at, is BlazBlue had 53 entrants at a major national outlet. When it's outclassed in turnout by a game that requires a decent computer, more probably a laptop to have a setup, I get a little worried as a TO. Previous tournaments have had 12, 13, 14, 11, and 21 entrants, not to mention the sometimes miserable turnouts of five and six. I need a solid position on how YOU GUYS feel about not only the game having successful community and turnouts, but going forward if it's going to remain popular especially with how BlazBlue players tend to react upon even a whisper on the wind of a new version. Also consider that we've lost at least two entrants in myself and probably Astaroth since neither of us play anymore, maybe even Pickle, too, but Astaroth might decide to still enter. Grimstar could play if he decides to continue to mess with it during all that he's currently got going on. This is not a question where you can rationalize why other games got more people for whatever reason. We're talking about BlazBlue and why, as a TO, I should continue to run it, regardless on that's what we were built on. Asking as neutrally as possible.
  21. Mega man hat is Sean Miyagi. He's a good SF player. Beat Ricky Ortiz on stream.
