Vayden Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 So basically, I gotta play like a little girl? :X Well, not that thats a bad thing. Zoning helped me beat a Tager 10 lvs higher. Gotta love how they just sit there and wait for you to walk into their attacks. Didnt think itd work on Hakumen though since hes considerably faster with equal range. That, and I dont have a habit of using pumpkins and frogs unless my opponent is turtling. Frog seems to get avoided/killed easily too. Anyhoo, thanks for the tips. Ill be sure to try em ^
Shadow Moth Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 So basically, I gotta play like a little girl? :X No you have to play like a well-mannered, slightly bossy, and sorta sadistic loli vampire. And what's up with Nu? She's really hard for me.
kro_ Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 No you have to play like a well-mannered, slightly bossy, and sorta sadistic loli vampire. And what's up with Nu? She's really hard for me. Agreed. As for Nu, it's incredibly hard to get in on her as Rachel. She is way too floaty and her pokes are too slow to even attempt getting in without wind. The best thing to do is to learn how to block and gradually build up your wind meter. Then, expect to use up 1 or 2 winds to get in and another 1 or 2 winds to land a hit and perform a combo. A good combo will do ~50% of her life so you basically have to get in 3 times if you include burst. Don't even try to get in on her if you only have 1 or no wind stocks. As for how to get in, that depends a lot on the Nu player. If they like to attack from full-screen, then j.236a with 3d wind is useful since it will dodge the 5d sword and 236c with 3d wind will dodge the 6d sword. If they like to spam gravity, then just sit there and let your wind meter build up or use wind to break free if you're at the edge of the field. Activate sword iris to keep them stunned long enough to summon a pumpkin and rush in. If the Nu player attacks from midscreen (which is probably best for them) then you'll occasionally want to jump, super jump, or stay grounded while blocking and wait for a whiff. Summon pumpkin or propel yourself directly towards Nu with wind and go for the mixup. Once you're in, watch out for backdash and 2c. If you land the combo, do everything you can to land another combo off pumpkin/frog oki. If the attack fails, just build up wind again by blocking and waiting for another chance. The matchup is definitely in Nu's favor. I feel that Rachel's chance of winning depends heavily on Nu making a mistake and high-risk approaches.
Vayden Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Well, that was fun, beating 3 higher level Hakumens so far by zoning. Its amazing how these guys dont know how to do anything aside from dashing in and slashing away wildly **edit** So has anyone found a reliable way to stop Jin's surfboard? Block-instant block isnt viable online with the 0.5-1 sec delay. My friend uses nothing but surfboard and I cant stop him >_>
aaaa_ Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 So has anyone found a reliable way to stop Jin's surfboard? Block-instant block isnt viable online with the 0.5-1 sec delay. My friend uses nothing but surfboard and I cant stop him >_> Against B and C versions, just block normally and punish with 5B > 5C+D, etc. Dunno what do do against A version though, I guess just keep blocking (scrubs will usually just keep mashing afterwards so whatever) and prepare to tech a throw on reaction, in case they try to throw you. You can also use the counter attack thing (pressing forward and A+B immediately after blocking an attack, forgot what it's called <_<) although it will drain half your meter, whether or not it's worth using is up to you.

My friend uses nothing but surfboard and I cant stop him >_> If they do it from far away you probably have enough time to activate chair. You can also wind a pumpkin to stop it. If you manage to set a frog safely, they will get hit by it if you just block. But if you're fighting a Jin that's actually smart, he will use super anytime you summon anything so watch out for that.

Yea, they always use mystic dagger (or whatever its called) when I try to zone them >_>
kro_ Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Yea, they always use mystic dagger (or whatever its called) when I try to zone them >_> Well, either you have to bait the super or start rushing him down. Just zoning might get you some wins against Hakumen, but if you can't rushdown well and mix things up a bit you will have difficulty against most of the cast and no chance against Nu.
Showen Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I'm embarrased to say, but I've been having lots of trouble againest any Jin player. Usually I can block ice car well, but everytime I do a combo and mess up they just use ice car and attack. Heh, I guess I shouldn't mess up then. But I've been having trouble with Jin because he's always in my face after I block his ice car. Any tips? Btw, I hate losing to Jin ALOT. I can lose to any other character and be fine with it, but when I lose to Jin I lose my temper haha.
black hayate Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 i have a hard time against arakune, what's the general stuff to do against it? and why is this match up in Rachel's favor?
Vayden Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Well, either you have to bait the super or start rushing him down. Just zoning might get you some wins against Hakumen, but if you can't rushdown well and mix things up a bit you will have difficulty against most of the cast and no chance against Nu. My main style of play is rushing so that’s not an issue for me. The problem is how often I find myself rushing into the surfboard. I dislike pursuing people when they turtle since it tends to give them the advantage when they see me coming so I prefer to “zone” them (exception made to Nu of course) and force them to come to me, which, unfortunately doesn’t work quite well against Jin’s board + distortion. i have a hard time against arakune, what's the general stuff to do against it? and why is this match up in Rachel's favor? Arakune matchup supposedly favors Rachel because her 6A counters most of his aerial assaults, not to mention lobbing lobelias at him. Rachel has terrible air-to-air but excellent ground-to-air skills.
Mariolle Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I have trouble against Ragna cuz once he gets me blocking his combos i don't know what to do seeing how im new to fighting games lol (This is the only one i got into) help plz T_T
Soniti Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 But I've been having trouble with Jin because he's always in my face after I block his ice car. Any tips? As has been said in this thread, with all versions of ice car except for a (the 1 hit version) you can instant block the second hit and punish starting with 5b.
Ceryn Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Good stuff, I didn't even think of instant blocking the 2nd hit of the Ice car. From the midscreen 236.A lobella seemed to stop or trade with quite a few of the Ice Cars even on react if i recall. This is a pretty annoying match-up. The times that I have won its been lots of 236.A and 236.B lobella if they try to airdash in from too far out and use lightning rods from 236.A-B lobellas if you hit with a 236.B. It's not a exactly a good way to punish, but we don't seem to have that good of damage options when faced with a sled spamming jin other than to block.
wuku Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I have trouble against Ragna cuz once he gets me blocking his combos i don't know what to do seeing how im new to fighting games lol (This is the only one i got into) help plz T_T hrm.. Matchup with Ragna is certainly painful. You may want Ragna can mess up his push. If Ragna's push is good so you barely have chance to escape, then you may need to use IB very well. If Ragna's push is perfect so you can never have chance to escape, then press 2C.
slayerggx Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Going back to the Nu thing for just a sec, has anyone had any success with using chair to stop swords and then attacking?

Thanks for the tip Ragna isn't that much of a pain now^^ I appriciate your help ^^
Soniti Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Going back to the Nu thing for just a sec, has anyone had any success with using chair to stop swords and then attacking? Think for a moment about the extremely long recovery on chair and how much less recovery swords have. You do a chair against Nu in almost any situation and Nu will be thanking you for the free combo.
slayerggx Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Yeah, I figured that would be the case...wasn't sure if there was a way around it w/o RC'ing it.
iora Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 yahh i tried to chair some of nu's shit her 6c? nah 2c? nope anything projectile? no thanks ....ya, avoid that manuever lol
sogos Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 throwing out the frog also kills clouds, i've had the most success with tk frog and sj then dj frog set
