AlmightyGnat Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 What a troublesome matchup. It feels like Sledging is unsafe while Ara is airborne. Once you get marked, the matchup becomes nigh impossible. How should a Tager player approach this matchup? I understand that it is highly in Ara's favor, but it still feels like it could be winnable. What moves should I avoid completely? And what's the best answer for Ara's 2C while a cloud is directly above head?
Mike Z Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Don't rush him willy-nilly, be cautious. You can sledge ANY D you see - standing, crouching, fwd, jump...anything. Crouch D doesn't even combo both hits if you're standing up, so you can Sledge after the first hit, too. Liberally apply Atomic Corridor (Heat) if he's airborne and magnetized; if you do it right it stops dragons. Bait dragons otherwise: you can beat them with a really early 2C, but more than likely you're just going to get nailed. DON'T give him a CH dragon if you can help it. If you get cursed: be patient, don't jump, instant block and wait it out. If he's magnetized and you sense a backdash, you can 720 or spinny super absolutely free - you will catch him in the recovery of the dash. Best answer for 2C is um, block low and punish with absolutely anything. That move is horrible 95% of the time. :^) If you absolutely must beat it, you can A-Buster. Work on the other aspects of your game first: always being able to do the special move you want, pressure, zoning, and not being predictable. Messing up an input, missing an opportunity, or doing the wrong move entirely will cost you big anytime - bigger vs. Ara. L2B,
femoral Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Man i have been having nothing but trouble with this fight, sledging through the bugs and clouds doesnt help me when he follows his projectiles with a dive bomb, i am REALLY struggling with this fight and any help would be much appreciated, the arakune players that i play against all spam the jumping spikes and the dive bomb always with a damn cloud or bell out. i wanna say 50/50 i can 2C the jumping spikes, but then he just does dive bomb and i get counter hit... Any suggestions>?!?!? Thanks in advance!
Mike Z Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 My general strategy: Magnetize him once, use Collider whenever he jumps at all. You can release at the proper time to beat dragons or spikes, and he can't throw out a cloud or whatnot because you win at that point. Don't try to antiair him, instead, IB his jumping moves for meter towards that 720. Learn to punish dragon: no teleport after = 360B, teleport after = 2D/5D to the correct side. If he mashes backdash to escape your pressure, just 720. It'll catch backdash from any range.
happymonkey Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 How do you get out of Arakune's corner lock? 3D, 3D, 6D while cursed. Just wait for curse to run out and punish when you get an opening?
thehuntsmen5434 Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I have just been having trouble with everyone in general. They just spam attacks, and I can't even manage to get in a jab. If I do a tech roll they just spam jabs while I'm getting up and I'm in another combo. I might just choose another character. Tager is far worse than Potemkin. if Tager had that jumping up and down attack he had, that fall that knocks them down, or that move you charge and it goes through attacks. Then he'd be fixed.

Disregarding this post, Arakune is a very hard match up. Remember that sledge is your friend. If you see him squigging around underground, be prepared to grab tech. Other then that be patient and remember to shot when you can. XYH invincibility and all that. Arakune may be the squiddiest character ever, but remember that in the end, all squid have Akuma vitality. Be patient and punish, even though that in itself is a daunting task. Also, Don't come on the Tager boards and talk about how Tager is bad and broken. Save that for the general. And, If you see another Tager Vs. Arakune thread, don't make a new one. L2:psyduck:
AlmightyGnat Posted July 3, 2009 Author Posted July 3, 2009 And, If you see another Tager Vs. Arakune thread, don't make a new one. L2:psyduck: lol. This. I was going to C+P Mike's answer from the other thread. He basically did the same thing.
4Corners Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Wtf? Dave, you play Tager? Freakin' tight. I was hoping CO would get a decent player to pick up Robotnik on steroids. Hit me up next week, I gotsta play you.
Plasma Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I got perfected by one who did absolutely nothing, but spam 1D (where he spits out those worms). I almost thought of just DCing ~_~. The only reliable way I can think of actually closing the distance to hit him is by using magnetic spark and catching them off guard with it and comboing with something like Magnetic wheel after it.

Well, you can infer it from earlier posts, but you can sledge right through that move for a counterhit then combo into magnetism.
Plasma Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Well, you can infer it from earlier posts, but you can sledge right through that move for a counterhit then combo into magnetism. Eh really? I tried that and I could never get close up to him for whatever reason. I'm aware of the projectile immunity of Sledge Hammer, but the worm that comes out after it keeps hitting me and I don't know if that part of the move is considered a projectile so I get hit in the end :/.
Fu11m3t41 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Just be patient and just try your absolute damnedest to magnetize him. He has to jump to do a 80% of his setups, and when he does, Collider into pain, rinse and repeat. Also, remember that sledge goes through projectiles and bugs, but be wary that a smart arakune will bait this, so try to be sneaky and dont get hit by drive bug. God help you if you get hit by drive bug.

I'm aware of the projectile immunity of Sledge Hammer, but the worm that comes out after it keeps hitting me and I don't know if that part of the move is considered a projectile so I get hit in the end :/. I'm pretty sure the whole things counts as a projectile. I played a guy who used that move and the floaty bell thing as corner pressure. I was able to sledge through it every time at every part as best I can remember. He might be baiting sledge and then hitting you at the end of it, during the not projectile protected recovery. Arakune's air to ground moves keep me blocking all day and he's safe enough to repeat melee pressure on me without using bugs and it drives me nuts that I'm losing in an in fight. He does that weird multi hit falling down move, then a block string, then a mix up then he starts over again if I haven't been hit yet, and the only time I can move out of the block stun is while he's in the air doing that move that flat out beats everything I have and lasts longer than my backdash.
Catastrophy Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I must need a lot of practice with collider on Arakune because I just get hit out of it all the time. I think in general I just have to learn to release earlier.

HZMN Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I seriously just lol'd. IMO, Tager is so much better. :\ Potemkin I think is better than Tager, but not by much. But that probably has to do with more personal preference. As far as Arakune, Sledge seems to work against MOST Arakune's save for the few smart ones. Most annoying part is though is when you do get cursed, you can tech one way and there is another Bee just waiting for you it seems courtesy of Tager's enormous hitbox. My opinion says, try to get Arakune as early as humanly possible. Its like the longer it drags on, the better he can stay away from you.
Tiamat Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 why are you guys talking about Tager vs Potemkin comparison in here? I could give you a laundry list of reasons why potemkin is better than tager but it really doesn't matter, so I'll just say you guys are hilariously ignorant and leave it at that :P here's a video of arakune matchup to discuss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIvgmIWd8Qc
LoneStar Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 this match up is probably just as annoying as The V-13 One i can't imagine how you guys can even stand facing these characters when they barely let you get close enough to them most of the time(because of nu's swords and arakune's bugs..)

If he had hit it they could have followed up with 6C and then AC to end the match. As long as Tager isn't cursed, its a pretty manageable fight unlike V-13 where she can hit you with blades regardless.
Shinsua Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Ive seen a great many Arakune screwed over by a well timed Bolt Tackle combo But, I dont know enough about Tager to comment further ^^;
Tuna Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Few questions about arakune... How long does his curse last? I know you can get rid of it by hitting him, but does it have a time limit on it? What should I be doing when I get cursed? I seem to have trouble doing much of anything as there is so much bullshit on the screen.
HZMN Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 There is a bar below Arakune's name that shows how much longer your cursed for. However he can just reset the timer simply by recursing you. As far as what you should be doing while cursed, depends on the Arakune player based on my experiences. If its one that likes to run around alot and let the bees do the work, then your best bet would be to Sledge through them and try your hardest to get him magnetized. Careful when throwing Spark Bolt when cursed, have had random bees just show up behind me a hit me canceling the spark
