King of Hearts Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Well Im extremely new to guilty gear and well i played it loved it and wanted to start playing competitively right now I dont main anyone as i am trying to find someone that suits more my style in playing (so far the guys ive tried to do combos with is Chip, Sol, Baiken, and Slayer as you cant tell i love to get up close and attack) well if anybody has tips for me suggestions or anything helpful it will be appreciated greatly

Hadoken i hope your proud of yourself T_T So I narrowed it down to two people I like Chips speed cause its fun to dance around oppenents but everytime i fight potemkin I get dominated on. Next up Sol he is cool I can be really aggressive with him but he doesnt seem to have range which could be a problem at times.
maraxusofkelds Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Sol's 5hs has pretty good range i guess, and it's IAD'able cuz it is j.c able. FRC GF is also a good cover for rushing down in case you feel you lack range.

Unless he's read the guide at this point. I get some of it since I played tekken a lot 5hs=neutral high slash right? Plus I am going to get some terms I usually look things up and read them carefully before post IAD=Instant Defence? FRC= Full Roman Cancel J.C.=Jump Counter? Still some things confuse me like the frames and jump install though but I am going to try to change that without an overload:yaaay:

Since Im completely new im not going to get 100% of this stuff so can you guys be able to explain some stuff to me.
rtl42 Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 find someone to play against (hopefully someone you can play against regularly, who's also interested in playing competitively), use the forums & guide & match videos on youtube as a reference tool to improve your game. don't try to rush it at first, with learning everything, just take your time and read what's necessary for your level of play. btw the thing about Baiken is that even though she's a character that should "get up close and attack" (as you put it)... she's not very good at it, compared to (several) other characters. well anyways, you said you're gonna main Sol for now, so that's that. good luck!

Its sad there isnt much guilty gear players in the part of texas i live in at the moment so I wont know if I am improving. Oh well though that should change when I move soon hopefully:yaaay:

All of those places have a small but noticeable GG scene iirc.

I really suggest you just pick one character you really, really like, both in playstyle and looks, and stick to it. It doesn't get any easier.
