It has been 8 months since East Coast Throwdown happened. That weekend will live with Joe and myself forever. Since that weekend, people have been asking us nonstop when the next one would be. Well guys, it's here!

This tournament will once again be held in New Jersey, which we feel is a central location for the Northeast to gather. The venue will be the same as last year, in the same ballroom. We got a lot of feedback on the venue last year and the consensus was that people liked it a lot.

East Coast Throwdown 2 will be host to EVOLUTION 2K10's East Coast Qualifier for all Evo games. As of right now, Super SFIV, Tekken, Melty Blood, HD Remix, and Tatsunoko vs Capcom are getting two (2) seeds for EVO in Vegas. The 1st and 2nd place winners of each tournament will receive seeds into Round 2 of the final tournament, along with their respective prizes.

If the first or second place winner of the tournament has already been granted a seed for EVO2k10, then the seed will roll over to the next person in line, i.e. 3rd place. In the rare circumstance that 3rd place already has a seed, both 5th place winners will play a 2/3 set for the seed.

Venue fee will be $25

Spectator fee will be $10. Spectators can play casuals and hang out, but may not enter tournaments. Parents of players do not have to pay spectator fees. Neither do girlfriends/boyfriends who don't play anything. This will be strictly enforced.

The games that will be held as main tournaments are as follows:

  • Super Street Fighter IV (PlayStation 3) - This will be the FIRST EAST COAST Super Street Fighter IV MAJOR - $10

  • Tekken 6 (PlayStation 3) - $10

  • Melty Blood: Actress Again (PlayStation 2) - $10

  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (PlayStation 3) - $10

  • Tatsunoko vs Capcom (Wii) - $10

  • Marvel vs Capcom 2 (PlayStation 3) - $10

  • Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (PlayStation 2) - $10

  • Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (PlayStation 2) - $10

  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (MAME on PC, sticks will be provided) - $5

We will have about 25 PlayStation 3 setups with ACER Monitors and a few CRTs. We learned our lesson last year with the setup situation. About 10-15 of these setups are being provided by Big E from Philly and his crew. The rest is coming from NY heads.

Ian Cofino will be making a special 10-15 minute cut of his feature-length documentary film, "I Got Next", and showing it at East Coast Throwdown 2. We'll run it on the projector and possibly the stream at the event. Thanks Ian!!

East Coast Throwdown 2 will be streamed all weekend long by Seb from Frame-Advantage.com. Commentary will be provided by Nick/CasperOne from sf4answers.com along with various commentators for each game. We are going to be working on a strict schedule that will allow for each game to have their final matches streamed, including, for the first time at a major tournament, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

East Coast Throwdown 2 will be run using Damdai’s Tonamento event organizing website.

===========================

One of the biggest changes for this year will be the aforementioned scheduling for games. We are going to do something that we haven’t seen at a major before. Taking a suggestion made over a steak dinner by Damdai, we will be running Super Street Fighter IV by itself as the first tournament. This means that at 3pm on Saturday, we are going to shut everything down except for the 25 PlayStation 3 setups and run the Super Street Fighter IV tournament by itself. We have worked this scenario out time and time again, and if we stick to the formula, we can have the entire tournament whittled down to Top 8 in just under 3 hours. And that’s going by a full 256 man bracket. If everyone knows that the ONLY tournament going on is SSFIV, then there is NO EXCUSE for people to be anywhere else aside from the bathroom.

The logic behind this decision is simple. EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER PLAYS SFIV. Most, if not all, other tournament games are niche communities. There aren’t too many crossovers between Tekken and 3rd Strike, or Guilty Gear, or Melty, or any other game. The biggest time waster we see in tournaments is finding people for matches only to hear that they are playing another match in another game. We’re eradicating this problem by not giving it the chance to arise.

If we start Super by 3, we can have it done by 6. This leaves about 5 hours to get the other tournaments as far as possible, if not completed to Top 8.

The PC port of the game got leaked, but we want to further test it and get a general consensus on whether or not it's tournament worthy.

well ran tourney last year, definatly trying to make it out again this year. CS is whatever, ill be fine with playing guilty than going to the break and playing there.

I would definitely be there for BB. Hoping CS would be out with enough time by then. If not will there be a CT tourney.
