Dacidbro Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Gonna kick these off the ground, no time to keep waiting Will update to look more professional later, when there's more info to throw around and I have time to waste with the cosmetics. Tao is a character that loves air shenanigans, so be prepared to spend a lot of time in the air. Thankfully, Bang's air-air has gotten a significant buff. For air footsies; If below Tao, meaty j4C If even with Tao, jB or jA or grab, dependant on distance and situation If above Tao, falling jB or jC Be wary on jump in, Tao's 6A will stuff anything you have flat, if an opponent Tao gets too 6A happy, throw some (rather close) Dnails to make her think twice and get some free damage/pressure The key to this match is forcing Tao to wakeup. If you can get your random air footsies to connect to jC and force a wakeup situation, it will significantly turn the tide in your advantage. Another thing to watch for, Tao's air grab becomes some odd 4k damage (!!!), and Tao's drives make her mobile enough that she might be able to grab you without there being anything you can do. If you see that coming, just block and tech the grab, don't panic. In a similar key, if you find yourself in the corner, go for the corner air grab rape if you can; often Tao may try to grab you and you'll tech, often she'll be holding jC and you'll get a grab counter. Good times. I'll add more later.
huey253 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 jC is never a good option aganist tao. her grab and all of her aerials beat it out, even her crappy overhead beats it out. Tao players usually don't like to block alot and will try to drive out to avoid pressure so throw 5C out at the end of a blockstring once in a while. sounds stupid at first yes, but 5C is an AWESOME antiair aganist a tao trying to drive. 5C is more or less a gimmick thing and not a solid way of locking her down,(say hello to ground normals) but most tao players like floating in the air and avoid ground to ground or air to air combat due to it being Tao's biggest weakness. jB and 5A are your friend. P.S. Thanks to tao's 2A nerf, bang doesn't get raped in this match up anymore, YA
Dacidbro Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 I mean jC to finish air combos to ground her. Ex, jA jB jB jC But if you're above her, it actually works quite well. This isn't just theory, I've been playing TaoFTW, a fantaaaaaastic Tao.
huey253 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 but being above tao? thats blasphemy. tao has triple jumps and drives. tao's whole game is air to ground aganist bang. anyways.. i normally use jC as a ender for all my aerial combos so i didn't know why you mentioned it. yeah and unless your literally straight above tao, her GRAB EATS jC alive
Dacidbro Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 Bang is the second most mobile character in the game, and you're -never- above her? Work on that And for sure, Tao's grab will wreck you if you're using your aerials wrong. There's two popular enders, jC and j623B. jC happens to be better all around in this case, unless you could combo j623B.
huey253 Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 you lose all possible oki if you use j623B in a combo which is extremely important in this match-up. "Bang is the second most mobile character in the game, and you're -never- above her?" Tao is the first most mobile character in the game.
Dacidbro Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 No, I mean like; jB j623B 5B 623B 5B 2B jB jC Perfect oki, much higher damage than jB jC Tao is the first mobile, but she can't -fly-. If you're smart about footsies you can get above her.
The_Grither_ Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 How exactly is her 2a nerfed? What disadvantages does it have now compared to ct and how does it help bang ....cuz in ct 2a > bang
Dacidbro Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 Her 2A only gatlings twice, I believe, and you are never stuck without barrier blocking (like you could be in CT), meaning you'll never get stuck just being forced to sit there in blockstun for 30 seconds.
CakeWasBannedd Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 2A is still a decent poke for Tao, but you can no longer mash it 8 times to force your opponent to rage quit. And from my experience vs bang, unless you're completely expecting a guard point, it's too fast to punish with a poke.
ShoMeYaMoves Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Call me silly, but I think this matchup is even. Tao still has alot of ways to avoid getting locked down by Bang, which he can do relatively easily vs most other cast members. Once you hitconfirm that one CH j.A into 5B>623B relaunch or you knock her down in some other manner though, it's gg lol.

It's really good, and can even be used to go into a 3.5k taunt loop.

KomboKaze Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 hmmm. Quick question..When i'm pressuring tao.. how could I avoid getting cat superd (qcbx2 C) I try to watch her meter... but wow just wow
Ken-oh Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 New least favourite match for me: that stupid crawl or whatever means every single move I do goes over her. What are you meant to do?
huey253 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 SUPER low to the ground jC, crossup kick, 2A, and 6B are your best friends. bang v taokaka is probably 5.5 in tao's favor
Dacidbro Posted December 8, 2010 Author Posted December 8, 2010 Tao is either Bang's only disadvantageous matchup or one of two (The other is maybe Litchi). Recognize it's difficult, but far from impossible. A lot of this matchup is weathering the storm, almost like you're suddenly Tager. You have no way to get out of her blockstrings, her damage is huge, and if she knows how to get fake oki you don't even get out for getting hit. It's very tough. Your 5A is next to useless in this match, and your 5B is situational. Don't be afraid to use TK dnails instead of a poke, you will often connect for a combo with knockdown, which is KEY. You get her on the floor, try not to ever let her up, using as many Dnail resets as it takes. Also, do not stagger. Any time you try to use (x blockstring > pause > 5A) Tao can just push 2A. But you can fake it with things like 5A 2A 2A 2B, giving him a gap to mash with a move that crushes low profile powerfully. GL
Dacidbro Posted December 8, 2010 Author Posted December 8, 2010 Her very near the ground (j236B x5) ender, leaving you to tech into 6A range or not tech. Very awkward spot, clearly Tao's favor.

Will try that 5A 2A 2A 2B string and see how much people like mashing on 2A! I think a big part of my problem is I rarely play any decent Taos and so when I do encounter one I just treat it like any other match and get frustrated at getting counter hit all the time.
