Hi everyone. I've just picked up Tao in CS after playing Bang all through CT and it's a way different feel. I'm still muddling my way through her combos and I had some quick questions.

-After crossing over an opponent with a regular jump, if I jump again I can't do a third jump or dash off of it. Is this intended?

-What's my best combo off of a gold burst?

-Who are the hot Tao players to look for in videos?

Also, for the TLoop > AB2 ender that everyone seems to be working on, would it be possible to gold burst immediately after the AB2 ender and follow up on it with another AB2 ender/super? I'd check myself but my Tao execution isn't good enough (yet!)

i can answer," who are the hot tao players", mostly keita, kazu, and Tsujikawa from japan. From Canada there's xdest and Usa, there's taoftw but i don't know, if he still plays though.

1) Are you sure you need that?

2) 'catch' straight onto taunt loop + AB2 ender, that's the maximal possible dmg from the gold burst for now.

3) I'd say Tsujikawa, Kazu, Keita (in this order :) )

Also) Are you sure you need that?

For the jump thing it's not about needing it or not needing it. It's just inconsistent that she doesn't get her third jump in that situation.

As for getting more damage out of something, why would you not? If the AB2 ender adds about +2000 regardless of proration, and IF it works to do TLoop > AB2 ender > gold burst > AB2 ender you could pull of some ridiculous comebacks if you have a burst and 100 meter. Needing the burst and meter makes it situational but still.

Well personally if you're jumping strait into Tao I wouldn't suggest going strait to TL -> AB2 -> j.236x3 combo's xDDDD... you're also gonna have to get used to the fact that most of tao's normals are not godly compared to Bang's.

And I dont understand your jump situation, you said "crossing over" before, you mean like 2d~b? thats considered two "jumps", and you will only have one left. Drive cancel situation reduces a jump, but drives are infinite. And you CAN jump-jump-airdash, or jump-airdash-jump.. is that the question  ? And ditto Cryingvoid for best Tao players to watch.

I liked CT tao better :( can't taunt loop past 2, haven't figured out cat2 loop for combo ender (do you do it slowly/carefully or fast?). I've been doing variations of the challenge combos and AB2 scratchy combo if i can land 3c in the corner. Since taunt loop is being removed, what's the easiest (read online friendly) non-taunt max dmg combo off 3C and 4B+C ? Are there any standard non-taunt combos that I can end with AB2 combo in the corner?

Thanks for the recommendations on videos, I'll study up.:eng101:

@Rin: I mean if I do a regular jump that passes over over my opponent, then jump again after passing over them, I can't jump or dash afterwards which is weird because I should only have used up 2 of my 3 jumps/dashes. It's like the second jump counts twice somehow. I can jump over > dash > jump, but not jump over > jump > jump/dash. It's the same thing if you jump after a 2D (no cancel) that passes over the opponent. Also, might as well jump in the deep end for combos!

And because I'm still new, I'm gonna share things I find and you can tell me if it's useful or dumb. It seems like most of the people here in the Tao forums have been playing her since CT so some stuff that's common knowledge to all of you is new to me.

  • 6B > 22C works on everyone (I think), standing or crouching. 6B > 22C(x) > 5D > RC > 5B > 3C > stuff.
  • 6C > d.22C is possible but maybe spacing/character dependent or just hard as balls.
  • Blockstring: close range 5B/5C > 7j.A > j.B, the j.B can be delayed slightly to make it a crossup.
  • Corner blockstring: close range 5B/5C > 7(j.A) > j.B > 214D > j.A/air throw, depending on how long you hold 214D you can crossup your opponent in the corner. If they start trying to jump out of pressure sprinkle air throws to taste.
  • I didn't see it specifically mentioned anywhere but AB2 stops meter gain.

If you want to do that combo, try 6C->5D~B[hit]->22C instead of 6C->d.22C. That one does work.

Bro, the answer to all of your questions is in XDest's latest tauntless combo vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JI3eYKAJi1I (tauntless AB2 enders included)

About your combo timing issues, unfortunately (or fortunately) Tao's combo fragments are executed neither fast, nor slow. They are just pretty strict to time, it is not the matter of speed. All you can do is to make yourself get the right feel of it in the training mode. It may take some pain and time, but trust me, it pays of. That's what Tao is.

I was thinking, j.236BB->j.C->9D~9 probably could have been a short loop in CT if not for the combo timer (which was taken out in CS). All three of those moves have pretty high P2s (80,80,89,92). And the new j.B (which is the CT cat2) is said on the blog to prorate really well. Maybe it'll replace our current cat2 loops, albeit with a few less reps?

Blog? Which one? Is it in japanese?

BTW, don't you think it would be nicer to have 236B input for casual CS Tao CAT2, and to have 214B input for her old CT CAT2 at the same time? (Better logic than just j.B)

I wonder, have they nerfed Tao's drive-game, or have they buffed it?

Judging from this:

Drives all have increased recovery time when cancelled into a followup.

Drives hit stun increased.

It is easier to combo off drive hitconfirms, and it is more dangerous to drive-cancel on block (aka stupid 5D~b crossups).

They're going back to CT drives. It was pretty terrible, but you had to be smart about using it. In CS you could spam drives all day and win cause you're in + frames zzzzzzzzz

CS Tao drives ARE way too good recovery wise. They're fast, cover the whole screen and do 4k-5k on CH. And the A/C cancels allowed pretty continuous pressure against non-DP characters.

I would definitely be fine if they went back to CT drives or somewhere in the middle. CS' drive recovery was a bit ridiculous in practice.

They're pretty much going back to CT Taokaka by the looks of it, because there was nothing wrong with it, other than a few bad matchups. Hopefully they give her 10500HP back. They already reverted drive recovery, gave her back her old cat2 from CT, and got rid of taunt loop. Other than the j.B speed/range (now j.2B), they pretty much reverted all CS Tao changes. All that's needed now is her HP.

I played with CT Taokaka for a year and loved it. Frankly, even though CS Taokaka is high tier it's a bit more boring, I'm playing it less and less now. Taunt Loop is boring. Drive cancel's low recovery pretty much advocated spamming them until you got a CH. etc...

Yeah, you guys are right all ways... I'm also always fighting myself to keep spamming drives all round long. Judging that in CT I was fighting against 5C poke spam, with BOTH gone, we'll likely get the most interesting gameplay parts of the two games :3 Let's hope for that.

Riku, practice cancels, they are the highest priority!

Do you have a link to those matches? I found some SBO 2010 finals, but there Tao is losing to Bang, and that Tao doesn't seem to be Tsujikawa's one :(

I got permission to reupload/edit a persons footage of the grand final satoshi vs tsujikawa. It'll be up later tonight.

Tsujikawa had interesting stuff.
