Does anyone know if there's a noticeable difference between ps2 and ps3 pads? I'm attending a 360-only tournament and looking into converters. My favorite pad is the Hori Fighting Commander 3 Pro, but no converters seem to be able to work with it and I may end up needing to use a wired ps2 pad (I can play on the ps3 pad, but I just wanted to know if they really feel at all different). Another option is picking up a used Madcatz SF4 pad for cheap and using that (though I'm not as used to circular dpads and the 6 button layout doesn't seem as necessary for a 4 button game like Blazblue).

I've tried using sticks. The first thing I noticed was that I needed to exaggerate ALL my inputs. A 632146C on pad was a fluid slide; on stick, it was an exaggerated and deliberate command that usually resulted in nothing coming out. Also, shoryuken motions took literally three times as long to input, rendering the command virtually useless. Maybe I just suck at using sticks, but I've played with them for hours on end, and found things as simple as jumping many times more difficult, and the carpal tunnel that began at my knuckles and shot all the way down to my elbows certainly didn't help anything. I have tried multiple different sticks (ones that my friends paid top dollar for, mind you, not cheap ones), on multiple games, on several occasions. I have invarbiably preferred pad.

I'm pretty sure that gummo on SRK has modded this pad before.

Wired PS2 pads are just as good as their ps3 counterparts

The only difference is probably the R2/L2 as they're digital on a PS2 but analog on a PS3

How you hold a stick can definitely play a factor on how you perform on a stick. Certain holds require the exaggeration of certain muscles which can make some holds more comfortable than others, i.e. a wineglass grip tends to stress the wrist and thumb while something like a bat top hold will stress more movements from the forearm.

Developing muscle memory for movements is another factor on how you perform on a stick. This sort of practice takes more than hours to get used to and perfect.

Ultimately the time you put into practicing with a peripheral positively correlates with your performance with said peripheral.

Its okay to prefer pad if that's what you're used to. The best thing is to try out different things to find what you do best in.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this stick is any good or not, not lookin to spend a great deal of amount, but this seems resonable to me.

Decent beginner stick. I have the xbox version as a backup stick that people can borrow if they didn't bring their own. Compared to the better sticks the joystick has a larger deadzone (you need to move the stick further for it to register) and the buttons are harder and also have a larger "deadzone". Also the stick is fairly light so it moves around a bit more in your lap. On the other hand this makes it easier to carry.

Those are fine and not that bad to mod. You'll need to learn at least the basics of soldering and splicing to do it

I was playing P4u yesterday, and I had a chance to play on a pad, after utilizing GameCenter's Stick. Long story short, I hated the placement of the buttons for some reason... I got used to the stick, which is actually surprising.... Still can't do 236236 or 214214 inputs for god knows why, but you definitely learn how to use it after 16 hours or so of constant playing

I've only played Blazblue on the PSP-2000, so I'm used to its pad.

Anyway, I've been thinking of buying a PS3, and having owned a PS3 controller before, I'd rather not use it for Blazblue.

How would this one hold up and compare to what I'm used to?

I can't really compare that to PSP, but it looks like it'll hold up well for BB. One thing that I really like about Sega controllers is that they have a nice and wide face plate under the buttons and the buttons themselves are bigger than normal. This means you can play overhand style, almost like a stick, with ease. It'll be fine for BB or P4A.

Another note, PS3 pads are not that bad for BB. It takes a little while for the pad to wear in to how you play but from there it's smooth sailing. Though I prefer playing on the ones without any vibration as it feels a little different for me. Something to consider or at least keep in mind for back-up reasons.

If by the square one you mean the one that looks like a Dreamcast controller then, I would say go with the Saturn one. The DC one, if it's the same pad as the official DC pad, is pretty nice, but the controller itself is a little dated and lends itself to DC specific titles more so than a fighter. So, your options are:

DC

-A very nice 'default' style pad

-Regular buttons that won't allow for overhand use

-Lack of multiple trigger buttons for mapping many shortcuts

Saturn

-Different d-pad, possibly similar to PSP? Either way it'll do anything you need to do

-Big buttons with a setup that works for overhand or just your thumb

-Again only has two trigger buttons but it does have 6 face buttons which helps for other games like Skullgirls/GG/AH3

So it's really what you want, there are a lot of things to factor in but it all comes down to your personal preference.

Are those the right ones? They don't appear to have USB attachments like the one in the video. There's probably a converter out there though.

I dunno, I think the smooth one looks nicer but that's just me.

Edit: Also wanted to mention, the default layout for BB would be, directly from stick

BCD

A

or alternatively, like I use

ABC

D

That one without adapter is too expensive. I've brought my ps2 pad/psx to usb converter to tourneys with no problem, it's definitely not that bad, and it'll be about 20 bucks cheaper.

The way I have Blazblue setup, I use the square button as my drive, with triangle being the weak attack, circle being the medium, and x being the strong.

Come to think of it, moving to that might be a pretty good idea, since it's similar enough to a stick. This way when I get presented with a stick, it won't be as jarring an experience. Come to think of it, I don't really see myself liking a stick all too much. I got a big pencil here I can just turn upside down and the motion feels really unnatural, doesn't seem to flow as well.

Did you move to a stick because you hated pads, or because you liked sticks more?

That's not too bad of a pad setup and if you were to keep it like that then using the first default setting will probably feel like a natural transition. You should just keep it how it is until you get your new controller I think, so you'll be making the switch to the new setup and having each finger on a different button at the same time.

Some people don't like stick but a good majority of competitive players prefer it to pad. It doesn't give you any special powers, and if you're like me it'll take a long time to get used to it, but it is more comfortable for playing really long sessions without your fingers getting tired. I used to play on arcade cabinets so there was always the appeal to switch but it was more of a matter of not being able to afford it.

I liked playing on pad while I had to, my long sessions resulted in a callous so my thumb stopped hurting soon enough. I can still play on pad and my execution is just as strong, but playing on stick feels more legit, it's also more fun for me.

Hate to put this out there without reading every page to see if somebody had already asked this, but are there arcade sticks that work for both xbox360 and ps3? It would be fantastic if they worked on PC/Mac, in the very unlikely event that I get a fighting game on my laptop. I have the BB Tournament Edition Arcade Fight Stick for ps3 and it works great, but now I have Persona 4: Arena on 360 because now more of my friends have xbox and I want to consolidate, instead of having to adapt to several different sticks. Also, that would help me if I went to any local tournaments. Any ideas?

You can dual mod it. There are ways to make sticks work for both consoles or multiple consoles.

You can also buy boards that do both but they are most definitely not licensed by microsoft or sony if that is the case.

You can also buy sticks that do both. They are definitely not endorsed by microsoft or sony. There is only one brand that does this with sanwa parts (Qanba/Eightarc)

You can hire someone to do it for you in the FGC and take your existing stick and make it work for both consoles.

I do this, there are people in texas who do this. If you need, i can recommend you to someone

First off, pretty much any arcade stick you can buy these days that connects via USB (i.e. anything for a PS3/360) will work on a PC. Macs are iffy, I think, because, drivers, but PC? No problem.

For sticks that work on both, your options are:

A) Get your current stick dual modded. (If you had a 360 stick, this would be do-it-yourself easy, but since it's a PS3 model, I suggest looking up a reputable modder in your area)

B) Purchase some sort of custom dual modded stick

C) Purchase a Qanba Eightarc

I think that pretty much covers the bases there, but someone will correct me if I missed something.

I saw some people on Craigslist who were trying to sell or trade their arcade sticks in exchange for the one that worked with the other platform. If I can find somebody with the Xbox BBTE fight stick, maybe I could trade them and then change it myself. What is involved in doing that?

I'm going to go look and see if I can find anybody who wants the PS3 version to trade for their Xbox stick while I'm at it.

Oh, and also, I was doing really well with the ps3 pad until I moved to the stick and got used to it. Certain things, like dashing, became bothersome for a while, but now I feel pretty used to it on BB.

Then I got an Xbox and switched over to that and since I didn't have the arcade stick for it, I used the xbox360 pad.

It brought down my game with BB, but with P4:A, after I got used to it, I really was able to do the combos easily. I used the analog stick for movement, which was nice because I was used to the ps3 fightstick.

THEN I found out about the 16th hit, a guaranteed Fatal Counter, at the end of All Out Attacks that end in the air. With the arcade stick I was able to use my index AND middle finger to alternatively mash both A and B and am EASILY able to get to 16 hits EVERY time. I can't do that with the xbox360 pad. :(

That is really the only thing that I don't like about the xbox pad, otherwise I find the inputs and things, especially for Yu's air combos, easier on the pad.

Then again, I am really used to the BB (square) = A, (triangle) = B, (circle) = C, (cross) = D setup and I haven't changed the button settings on Persona to reflect that, because I feel like there is a reason they did it that way and I should just learn it.

(Also, revolver action works differently in Persona, from what I've played so far).

While we're on the topic, is the "HDE Playstation 2/3 to Xbox360 Controller Adapter" another option? Wondering if anyone knows if it lags or something.

See here for info about the easy way to mod a stick from 360>Ps3 (works for TE edition sticks only). Pretty straightforward, pretty affordable.

I've seen people using a PS3 > 360 converter, but it's kinda weird and awkward, because you actually have to plug in a 360 device as well, so that the 360 sees there's a "legit" 360 peripheral attached. It's sortof clunky, but apparently some of them do work. Not sure which ones or what though.

I really need help, recently I got a blazblue TE and I'm getting used to it but there is somthin I really don't get
