Apparently Fighting Sticks 1+2 are different from 3, or so I'm lead to believe. FS3 is maybe the same internally as a Hori EX2. The Fighting Stick 2 is a really, really horrible stick. Me and a friend both had them at points and they both broke after a couple of weeks, and were never very good in the first place.

I agree with Gwyrgyn, my friend had two Fighting Stick 2s, and they were pieces of crap. Unresponsive, one broke easily, you have to press hard for a button to register. The Fighting Stick 3 or EX for the 360 on the other hand, much much improved basic sticks.

The Fighting Stick 2 might've had really shoddy parts even by HORI standards, but you gotta admit, having L3 and R3 on that thing made it hands down the greatest training mode stick ever invented.

Is there any (easy) way to use the SFIV SE Stick for PS3 to play Guilty Gear on a backwards compatible PS3?

Posted

Hey guys I have a question. Considering that money is no issue. Would it be better for me to get a HRAP3 and put in sanwa buttons or get the SF4 TE stick. I'd be getting it to play Blazblue only not Street Fighter.

Vrakanox, are you planning on using your stick to play backwards compatible PlayStation 2 fighting games on your PlayStation 3? If so, then definitely go get a HORI Real Arcade Pro 3 and mod it with Sanwa buttons. The reason is that Mad Catz's PS3 FightSticks, both the Tournament Edition and the Standard Edition, suffer from having a really shoddily coded PCB which won't allow the sticks to be used for backwards compatible PS2 games, only PS3 games. HORI's RAP3 and their Fighting Stick 3 both allow for backwards compatible play.

Yeah playing backwards compatable games isn't an issue for me because I have the newer version of the PS3 which won't allow me to do that =]

So I've never really used an arcade stick before, but I'm planning on getting one for Blazblue. I'm trying to decide on whether I want the SFIV Tournament Stick or just the Standard Edition Stick, but I'm not really sure which one I should go with. I want to mod it in the future, but I heard that the SE stick is a bit more difficult to mod in regards to the art (I read somewhere on SRK that it's printed on which somehow makes it harder to remove or something). What do you guys recommend for me, being a complete novice in regards to arcade sticks as well as the fact that I might want to mod this thing in the (distant) future?

TE: -Costs twice as much -has a sanwa JLF + Sanwa OSBF's -Very wide and low -Plexi top (with the ability to buy replacement aftermarket plexi for the top from a guy on SRK) -Removable pieces (IE: beazel (sp?) and side pieces) SE: -Costs half as much as the TE -Knock-off buttons and joystick -Taller and less wide than the TE -Art is printed on some sort of "lami-label" type deal -No plexi top -No removable pieces You say you want to mod the stick but I'm not quite sure how far you want to go with it. The TE already has Sanwa hardware in it so there's no real need to swap parts (unless you want to go with Seimitsu, but you said you've never used a stick before... so just get used to Sanwa most arcades use that anyways) So if you were just planning on changing out the artwork or painting parts of the stick without having to worry about new buttons and a joystick then it looks like the TE's for you. If however you wanted to do buttons, joystick, art, paint, whatever then the SE might be a good choice for you. The only reason I say this is due to the fact that a JLF + OSBF's will set you back around $60... and if your already going to pay the high price for the TE then why go swap out the buttons and joystick that you paid more for in the first place. TE's are definatly easier to swap out art on just due to the fact that you can slap a photo down, cut it out then throw plexi over the top (arthong on SRK sells it) With the SE you have to find a place that does the Lami-Label thing (basically a photo printed on semi-canvas-like paper that's sticky on the back) and pray that stuff doesn't start to unstick after time. I'm pretty sure both can be dual modded to work for both the 360 and PS3, but if you're looking to do that I think you'd need to get the xbox version of those sticks, then add the PS3 board. So basically it depends on what you want to do. I'd say TE if you don't want to fuss with getting buttons and a joystick from suppliers and just want to change the art or color of the stick.

Thanks Ghaleon. I actually never took into account the issue of swapping out buttons in the TE when they're the better buttons to begin with, amongst other things that you mentioned. I ended up getting the SE stick, and maybe I'll move to the TE once I get better at the game. Thanks again for your help!

NP! Congrats on your new stick! Now that you have your first stick you can guage what you like about it, that way if you ever need something else in the future you'll know what you like. The SE is sweet though man, get to mashing those SRK's and super motions. If it feels really weird you can always get an Octo gate for your stick, (it has a square one in there stock) Hit me up if you end up wanting one, I think I have a couple here since I didn't put them in all my customs.

Klaige, I love the colors on that one. Blue + White always looks sweet, especially with the case all black. Just a question with the MC Cthulhu though, are those wires attached to the stick? Or are they just ziptied for shipping? Kaytrim does really nice work! Have fun with that thing! Also just got conf on my buttons being shipped today, nothing special just all white but I'll post up photos when I finish it later this week. I've got anxiety problems waiting to use this thing... lol

Thanks Ghaleon, it took me a long time to decide on a color scheme but I am really digging the way it came out. The wires are in fact just zip ties, theres 2 usbs (PS3 and 360) and a PS2 cable coming out so Kaytrim was cool enough to zip em up for me.

Coincidentally the artwork is cover art from my favorite band, just for shits I sent them the picture and they asked to post it up on their myspace, so i feel pretty good getting approval on the art from the source haha.

Seriously if anyone is looking for a multi-system stick and you are willing to pay the extra dollar for supreme quality, look up Kaytrim's Kustom's he is honestly the nicest and most thurough stick maker i have ever worked with.

That's pretty sweet! It's awesome how even the cables go with the whole scheme.

I'm kind of kicking myself for not using a MC Cthulhu in my build for the PS2 compatibility now.

I heard them talking about the band on SRK when Mike posted the photo of your stick, but what was it again? I'd definatly be floored though if they asked to use the photo ^_^

If you don't mind me asking what was the price on it?

Also here's Michael's site (Kaytrim) if any of you are interested

The band is VNV Nation, when it was all said and done with shipping it ended up being 315.

Need to pull up the plexi a bit to let the blacks in the art dry up so it doesn't splotch like that.
