depends if you're playing to win or just playing to have fun.

for me, i'm just playing to have fun, so i pick individual characters without caring whether the team will turn out nice.

I doubt I'd be joining any MVC3 tourneys, just playing casuals is good enough for me.

Unless I happen to casually beast and MVC3 becomes free money of course. But i doubt that'd happen.

And yes, this game is more fun than AH3. At least I'm spending 10 minutes to do the mission mode combos instead of looking on the wiki, find the combo, do it, and it does 80% life. I'm still so disappointed about AH3.
