From my understanding of Gears, that's an incorrect assumption. Take a look at the Gears we do know from the X-verse games- Sol, Justice, Testament and Dizzy. Sol and Justice were branded with the Gear mark at their "creation" to let the world know what they were (hence, why Sol hides his via his Limiter) whereas Testament (human who was converted to a Gear) and Dizzy (child of a Gear) do not have such marks.

As stated, Dizzy's is on her ring, and Testament could very well have his hidden somewhere under his clothes.

Dude. Izuna was a Cat-Girl.

I could Stomach Ky with a Beard. If it meant having a Cat Girl.

That's one of his servants, actually. It's the one that keeps mewling in most of his videos... I think.

WTF at Dr. Paradigm's Elvis dogs. Do they actually use that comb in-game in an idle animation or something? That'd be freaking awesome.

o_o Wow, that's a lot of posts while I haven't been around.

Question: Can anyone tell me exactly where this thing about the GGX series being declared a Gaiden came from? They always seemed to be ignoring the GGX series in the GG2 promotion and I remember a lot of random crap about 'the first true sequel' being thrown around early on, but that doesn't add up to the same thing.

Like the Overture story or hate it, I'm having great trouble finding any way it connects to events from the original Guilty Gear. If anything, it'd probably work better to lump the first GG in with the X games and assume the Overture timeline went off on a tangent even before that. >.>

The gaiden thing came from a random person who said Daisuke had said so in an interview. I dont actually think an interview was provided...

And looking more at Raven, perhaps LIVE is just his brand of clothing? Like Riot and Preist. Reason being that Live appears all over him.

And I didnt know about the words on the belt buckle in the order thing. Mind providing more interesting tidbits from argent?

The "habit" of some of the members in the Seikishidan to scratch a word on their belt buckle was both a type of individualism as well as a symbol of belief. Or something like that. Basically, there were quite a few who would etch a personal belief as a confirmation to themself(lve?).

KY/HOPE - to symbolize his desire to bring the hope and possibility of life to all that he can. Stems strongly from a past incident reflected in Lightning the Argent [Early in Ky's career when he had only recently received a command position (it is not indicated as to whether this mean Shugotenshi, Shugoshin, or Dancho) Ky pursued a GEAR too far in and was then trapped against a very big GEAR with six other Knights of his command who had followed him. He ordered them to retreat and was prepared to sacrifice his life to cover them. But they did not, instead buying Ky's life with their own. According to Ky, this was the first and last time he has ever been disobeyed by those under his command. This was a very traumatizing incident to him, as in the novel when he was recounting it, his expression was described as a dead person.].

SOL/FREE - this was to reflect Sol's complete lack of binding/restriction to any form of cooperative or group organization. While in the Order, he primarily operated alone as a solitary raider/striker, his utter lack of teamwork greatly irritating Ky. The restrictive (probably rule-bound) life there is listed in his profile as being another reason he eventually took the FuuEnKen and vamoosed.

MELBETH/SACRIFICE - the name of the former Seikishidan member and missing priest in Lightning the Argent. Relatively close translation from the novel: "Houshien is in charge of healing and defense. While possessing no offensive power, they enter the frontlines to help their comrades, and hold the line during the retreat/serve as the rear guard, thereby greatly entrusted."

And some lines from the Seikishidan Oath:

wareware ga mi wa kami ni sasageraretaru mono naraba (if we are those that sacrifice/dedicate our selves to God)

kichi ni oite osoreru koto nashi (left in peril/dangerous grounds there is nothing to fear)

shichi ni oite mayou koto nashi (left in the battlefield/jaws of death there is no hesitation)

My two cents on the whole Daisuke-X series-gaiden thing, the only thing I remember was from WAY long ago, definitely before XX, maybe around X, was that Daisuke said what goes on is considered a Gaiden to the actual plot (that he wants to pursue). Though I do wish there were more characters in Overture (really, online play and only five choices?) I do not think it is necessary to really bring back most of the characters in the earlier fighting versions of the game as their plotlines are incidental to the GEAR-The Man conspiracy. Give me more world development! :yaaay: <-- The only reason I suffered to re-read Chipp's novel.

"Ore no yutaka tera da na, na wo ittemiro."

*attempts*

This is a [my] rich ___[life?], but we'll see."

俺/己の豊かテラだなをいってみろ <-- perhaps this is Japanese text version? Left "tera" in Katakana since I think that is supposed to be a word.

Well, one of the design sketches marks it as ブリンド (burindo), which I'm guessing is a typo of ブランド (burando), which would be brand. The big kanji on his back is 鴉 (karasu), which means raven, and is also marked as a "ブリンド" in one of them, so, *shrug*.

Actually, maybe it is "PRINT" (pu instead of bu)? That would make sense for when the comment is pointing at the "LIVE" portions on front swallowtails.

Ack, I'm going blind looking at these zoom-ups.

Somehow I think they're looking in the wrong direction. I think the person they should be wondering about is Aria, not Dizzy.

Not to say that Aria is Sin's mom, but somehow Valentine exploited Sin to an extent, so the connection is there, if only limited.

Personally, I think Dizzy just really fits in the situation. You have a (half) gear who is related directly to Justice (hence the DNA or whatever Valentine wants) (whose appearance supposedly matches Dizzy well iirc. Wings, bow in the hair) All things considered, there'd be little reason for Ishiwatari to introduce a new character when he has one who already fits the Overture setup perfectly. (Unlike the other no-show characters, who I figure aren't there simply because they have little or no place in the whole Justice / That-Man subplot)

Valentine is able to manipulate any gear, and Sin is part gear, so he can be controlled by her. Flaw to this could be pointed out in Sol, but his suppression device could cause that to not happen, and he was getting headaches. Also, evidence is pretty heavily in Dizzy's favor, not many things in the game have angel wings (yes, it shows her frozen in time, wings widely outstretched). Personally I dont find it so far fetched that Dizzy and Ky hooked up. Dizzys not aggressive at all (looks at Jam) and is a peaceful gear. I dont think Ky would outright attack a pretty lady, opening the door for understanding. It makes more sense then it might seem at first.

i was rereading Ky's story mode stuff from GGX+ and this jumped out at me

Ky: Even if it's a power we didn't want, we all have a responsibility to

our powers. Instead of running, you must show the world what kind of

person you are. That is what it means to live.

Dizzy: But... if I leave here, it will become a burden to everyone...

Ky: Didn't you know? To live is to be a burden on others.

Dizzy: I... didn't know.

Ky: See? There are good things to living as a person as well.

Dizzy: To live as a person... can you teach me that?

Ky: That's why I came.

Ky taught her how to live as a person! :O

Some of the things I recall going around were that Valentine was either a clone, or a reincarnation of sorts of Aria. (the Original Justice as I understand) Like Sephi said then, she'd inherit the Command Gear stuffs. IE controlling all gears produced after Justice. (not the prototype gear as shown in GG1, which is still canon in this universe) As i was saying (before editing my post cuz i had misread Blade's post), it seems like the guy at that livejournal is forgetting some of the pro-Dizzy arguments when he says he doesn't think it's Dizzy. Now whether it's a purposeful choosing to forget, or just looking past it, I dunno. It just doesn't make sense to introduce a character this close to dizzy in both appearance and plot deatils. EDIT - Mad props Zazz. Had forgotten about that. =P

I think manipulating and brainwashing are 2 different things. Plus, Dr. Paradigm is a full Gear, why didn't she used Paradigm instead? =/

Well, personally, I think the lady in the ice doesn't look like Dizzy, yeah she has wings but...still. We'll see if it's Dizzy or an alternate Dizzy or a new character later on.

because she found Sin first (more like he chased after her and fell into her trap) and he'd make a better boss fight than Dr. Bird "not bird! dragon!"

Ohh alrighty, but still, wasn't he was brainwashed? A video of that part of the story, Valentine brainwashing Sin who's clothes became dark.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I catched, only a Commander Gear is able to manipulate other Gears. Like Justice, she didn't brainwashed Testament, she forced him to do her will, didn't she?

Wait, so fandom's been going all 'WAAAH they said GGX doesn't count anymore!!11!' because somewhere in an interview from years ago, the director implied he was personally looking forward to telling a different story in the GG world than the one he was working on at the time? Come on, people!

Overture does look like an interesting side story, but it makes a whole lot more sense if it's basically separate from... well, almost everything we've ever seen from the first GG onwards. They may well introduce more familiar characters to later installments, but I think theria's right that they wouldn't be relevant to the main plot GG2 was tackling. There'd be way too much to cover if they tried to pull them all in.

@theria: Where have you been hiding until now? XD Thanks for all these translations you've been posting, they've cleared up a *lot* of stuff I was stuck on. (Chipp's novel really that bad though? It sounded really interesting from the few brief summaries I ever found of it.)

Well, I think its mainly people understanding what a gaiden is. A gaiden is just a side story, it all still happens, its just a break from the main story. Example: Kakashi Gaiden in the Naruto manga. Gave background to several important characters that wouldnt have been had otherwise. And I find it reasonable that several years after X series, Dizzy could look different. She didnt exactly look fully grown up. Using Sol as a reference point, I'd say she coulda grown more before stopping. And even if she didnt, its 8 years afterwards or something right? You shouldnt expect someone to look the same.

Actually its bit sooner than that. I heard its only 4 years after XX.

Still a lot can happen in a few years. But I think we got all the plot we can until we get a notice of it being released in the US. I am certain it would do better in the US if only because with sales like its got, it can only go up. :eng101:

well everyone went "wahh" because AC+ wasn't announced at the time, so if that story mode wraps everything up in a nice neat package, i would think Overture's story will be a bit easier to bear. (And hopefully they'll drop in more of the characters we all love and have a more even mix of Old/New characters in the next one.)

it is interesting That Man "can't be an adult." Does that mean the fangirls will go wild over "That Boy" now? :vbang:

A rock?

I recently returned fully to GG with the announcement of GG2 b/c the characters they started releasing in XX and whatnot (well, really from X) didn't appeal as much to me, there was nil plot development IMO, and I have never been that good of a player in fighting games to stick with the versions that didn't have a Story Mode. And even THEN I can't complete it without *cough*cheats*choke*. (I bought the X-Plus right when it came out for the animation DVD but didn't get a Japanese PS2 until KH2 came out :yaaay: ).

But anyway, I'm not particularly fond of Chipp though I do appreciate the 2nd novel since it gave me quite a bit of insight into the world and society of the day. It is supposed to be set in 2182 AD (not specifically stated I don't think, I'd have to check my notes again but I'm fairly sure there was a notation of "two years ago" in relation to the tournament from the first game) which made it the "furthest" story I'm aware of in the GG universe before GG2.

And I'm FINALLY done watching the YouTube videos. Missions #14-#19 in the file below. Unless better videos show up earlier, I won't be reviewing them again until I can actually play myself.

But the rest of those Gaidens were all much smaller stories and were labelled 'Gaiden' from the start. Declaring 90% of the known GG story retroactively a Gaiden - based on something apparently mentioned in passing in an interview from years ago - seems a bit silly.

I'd heard Overture was set about 4 years after GGXX. While you probably *could* stretch the story enough for that to be time for them to wrap up all the PWAB stuff from GGXX and for Ky and Dizzy to hook up out of the blue, leave the Jellyfish Pirates and the police, found a new country, concieve Sin and still leave him a few years to grow up, it would be a much neater explanatino for GG2 to be set in an alternate timeline.

Really, the part that irritates me the most is how vague it is. We can discuss it all we like, but we're not going to figure it out because they just haven't told us one way or the other. Makes it very hard to guess where they might be going with everything from here on.

That's a nice costume. That should be his new 2D GG costume minus the big sword. Fuuenken size only.

But that IS the Fuuenken. See the flints?

Ah, right. Chipp's one of my favourite characters, so I'd probably have gotten more value out of it.

Quick question if you don't mind (since I'm probably not going to get the chance to go through the scripts in detail today) - I got the impression somewhere along the story that the founding of Illyuria had something to do with protecting whoever-she-actually-is. Am I on the right track here or am I just mistranslating something?

Also, would you mind if I reposted the scripts elsewhere? I know a lot of non-Dustloop members would be interested in them.
