And I'm FINALLY done watching the YouTube videos. Missions #14-#19 in the file below. Unless better videos show up earlier, I won't be reviewing them again until I can actually play myself.

ok this is some really interesting stuff. especially with Sin and his thoughts on Ky (and how his mother loves and respects Ky for how he protects the people under his watch)

can't wait for the ending translations

o_o Wow, that's a lot of posts while I haven't been around.

Question: Can anyone tell me exactly where this thing about the GGX series being declared a Gaiden came from? They always seemed to be ignoring the GGX series in the GG2 promotion and I remember a lot of random crap about 'the first true sequel' being thrown around early on, but that doesn't add up to the same thing.

Like the Overture story or hate it, I'm having great trouble finding any way it connects to events from the original Guilty Gear. If anything, it'd probably work better to lump the first GG in with the X games and assume the Overture timeline went off on a tangent even before that. >.>

Supposedly those interviews are recent, like around the time GG2 came out.

Prototype Sol looks like he'd fit right in in a Castletvania game, lol. I don't really see any reason GG2 couldn't be set in the same universe as X or XX. Most of the character's subplots were honestly done by X, and the few left open after XX generally either didn't have much to do with the current situation or could be explained away easily (ex. Anji-Mito never did meet That Man, Millia finally stopped chasing Zato-1 [who is finally decomposing], etc.).

Daisuke = New FALCOON. Turns everything he touches into shit. Honestly, fucken such shit storyline I don't know why people bother speculating over it. Honestly, do people really care who Sin's mother is? Because we sure as hell aren't getting a sequal to GG2 that ties all this shit up that's for sure. Character designwise. Jesus, Izuno? Doctor Paradigm? Worst shit since Nagase and Alba Meira. Valentine wasn't too bad but the rest of the cast are terrible including Sol and Ky.

Ah, thanks, that clears up quite a bit. Though it does seem like he's just saying that GG2 isn't meant to fit into the GGX timeline (so, maybe that *does* mean there's officially no Dizzy in GG2?) and that he considers GG2 the 'official' version. Fortunately there's nothing to say we have to interpret that stuff the same way the director does. =P

Still not seeing how GG2 connects to events from GG1 itself though. I don't *think* the tournament was mentioned anywhere, which only leaves us two common characters, and am I the only one noticing something a bit strange here?

In Guilty Gear: Sol weilds the Fuuenken and mostly finds Ky an annoyance. Ky still holds a huge grudge against him for abandonning the Order, is obsessed with beating him and will pretty much attack him on sight.

In Overture: The Fuuenken is nowhere to be seen. Sol and Ky have settled their differences to the point that Ky's happy to call Sol in for favours and entrust him with raising his infant son. He's also clearly aware that Sol's a Gear and all the rest of his history.

Can't help but feel they must've skipped an important event or two somewhere between the games.

Damn, man, insulting is fine, but thats just wrong. :psyduck:

Oh I didn't mean Jesus was a bad character design but as in Jesus those are bad just in case anyone misinterpreted and was offended.

now i can't understand what daisuke's saying, but i have the feeling that with what you're saying here GGX and XX are still in the timeline, but certain aspects have been cut to smooth out the timeline like Fugue said

half the cast isn't even that important or active in the "main" story thread (Which concerns the backstory of the Gears, the plans of That Man, and the predicted disaster he's trying to avert)

Then again, with a name like Overture and a "To Be Continued" at the end, its obvious that Daisuke will try again at this story. And I can think of several characters from the XX games who could show up without any major problems. But I'm just babbling right now and we'll just have to wait and see for how the AC+ story mode connects to all this won't we?

Well, it's obvious something like GGX happened, it's just not clear whether the Gear with the bounty on her head was Dizzy or someone vaguely resembling her. But Sol and Ky are on much the same terms in GGXX as in GG, so there's nothing from the X series that would explain that side of things. It'd be a whole lot less messy if everything from GGX onwards diverges.

Like you said though, we're just gonna have to wait until they give us more information.

First off, thanks to everybody (especially to rallamajoop and theria) for clearing many things out. There are still tons of questions remaining (as rallamajoop correctly said), I'd like to point @ one more: there is no I-no in Overture. Being a servant \ ally of That (The? which one is official now?) Man and NOT showing up when all his plans are at the edge of destruction is quite strange, isn't it? Talking about Ky's wife - can someone make a complete list of already named (female) gears in GG plot? It should be a short one with Dizzy, Justice and Solaria being obvious. Who is Aria, btw, I feel like I missed that ( Was Judgement male or female (and am I right that it was a command type Gear)? Damn, I feel like I need to make a major update to a plot section on GG.ru ) Maybe Ishiwatari wanted to clear things out, but for now all hi did is messed everything again. Can someone actually translate what exactly did he said in interviews linked by Edward? theria, I'd gladly host your scripts at GG.ru if you don't mind.

-Judgment (Raymond/Has Sekishidan connections/Manipulated Island Isene's residents turning them into either GEARs or GEAR-like beings in experiments)

Judgment is not a Gear. He was not genetically modified, nor were the Isene residents. Raymond became Judgment by having [insert player character] kill the king of the Underworld, then absorbing his power, thus gaining the king's powers with sentience.

Wow. Blade, that was quite a work, I really appreciate this. But sorry, I've been little vague on GG plot recently, so I have more questions: "-May (Japanese/Possibly enhanced by Unknown Organization -see Night of Knives Vol. 3 for details-)" Wow again. There is no English script available for NoK 1,2,3, right? "-Judgment (Raymond/Has Sekishidan connections/Manipulated Island Isene's residents turning them into GEAR-like beings in experiments, manipulated events to have the Underworld King killed in order to obtain his power.)" Anybody is kind enough to sum up GGJ plot in few phrases? I still haven't found time to finish this game =( Judgement is Raymond? WTF is King of the Underworld? "-Aria (bears resemblance to Valentine/Associated with THAT MAN and Frederick)" Again, what is this Aria and where is it mentioned\introduced? Not a Sol-Aria? XD "-A Country (Not much is known except that Assassins have been hired at one point to kill the Young Girl President there)" Chipp is grown there+Dizzy is found there+Country is named 'Gasshukoku' by it's residents+the President Girls' name is Erica Might want to add Isene island and Backyard to location list.

"-Solaria (Under IPF Protection/Had access to GEAR Control at one Point/Formerly Human)"

After re-reading Echang's retelling of LtA:

- Solaria wasn't a human, she was "created" by Blackard's medicine from misc. parts of misc. villagers.

- There were no confirmation that Solaria was able to control any Gear at any point:

Skuld: but it leaves all sorts of questions.

Skuld: Dizzy's NOT the only free-willed gear then.

Skuld: this Solaria is too. but she might be full-gear.

Skuld: and is Solaria a command-type Gear or not @_@

Also: Might want to add Japan and England and Paris to a list of existing locations.

How was Sol indirectly trained for combat by THAT MAN? And there is no information on how Sol became the prototype gear? I doubt that he just agree to become a GEAR out of the blue..... Thanks for posting this up Blade. That a lot of damn good information! This info on the backyard is interesting along with Justice's backup. Lol, Johnny's last name is Sfondi?

Posted

It's not that I don't believe you, it's just that why would somone up and volunteer to become a gear. I know he was the first GEAR ever made hence the whole:prototype GEAR. I just find it odd that a human being would just be all and I know about Sol's 100 years of battle experience. I haven't finished reading the rest of the translations yet.

And yes Rallamajoop, I'm the same person that posted in your LiveJournal. Outside of the Bungie forums, I seem to be the only person using this handle, and have done so since about 1996.

Anybody is kind enough to sum up GGJ plot in few phrases? I still haven't found time to finish this game =( Judgement is Raymond? WTF is King of the Underworld?

Guilty Gear: Judgment's plot is as follows:

The villagers of the island of Isene have all disappeared. The player charcter arrives at Isene (circumstances for visiting vary depending on who you're playing as), and discovers that the island is infested with mutated villagers. Beatdowns ensue. Eventually, the player meets the first boss, who they identify as a fusion of three demons from the Underworld.

Three stages of ass-beatings later, the player character meets Boss #2, some girl who was fused with a plant demon. After commenting on how horrible a thing this plant-girl is, player character of course beats the crap out of her.

Plant-lady was guarding a cave, which has a lab hidden in it. After beating up a fire-wolf thing, the player comes across the experiment notes of some dude named Raymond. It reads as follows:

November 26th. Finally, I have found it. My calculations are true. With this, I shall become God. However, I will need cooperation. I will need a substantial level of cooperative subjects, but I must avoid attracting attention. That is when I found the inhabitants of Isene. Limited contact with the outside world, hence the solitary island. And there are enough subjects. There are archaeological remains on the island. What a fitting site for my laboratory. The Wind Tower is also close to the gate. It seems the island was made for me. They are going to cooperate with God. I suspect they will welcome me with open arms.

The cave then asplodes, with the player character escaping. They then head for the Wind Tower. At the top, the player meets Raymond, just in time to see him open the gate to the other world. He then sends a couple of demon bosses to stop the player. The player follows Raymond into the other world.

The player fights through the Underworld, and catches up to Raymond. He introduces you to "Inus", the king of the other world. Inus then eats Raymond, and attacks the player for waking him up. After killing him, Raymond emerges, transformed. He gloats about having tricked the player into doing his bidding. Looking for powers that exceed those of Gears, he came up with the idea of fusing humans to monsters. He needed Inus dead to absorb his powers (which are supposed to exceed those of Gears, apparently), otherwise the fusion would have resulted in Raymond losing his will. He then teleports to a fancy ass castle.

At the top of the castle, Raymond waits. He goes on a maniacal rant about how the Holy War is still going on behind the scenes, and that by becoming the new God, he will end it. He then talks about how Justice sucked, because the one suited to rule the world is not Justice, but the Judge. And then he claims that his new name is Judgment, and that he shall bring all sinners to justice.

Of course, this fails because Inus reawakens inside of him, causing him to lose his free will just like he was trying to avoid in the first place. His castle then blows up, and the character's ending plays (each ending is shared by two characters, btw, and don't add anything interesting to them).

All in all, I seriously doubt Judgment is even canon. If the X series isn't, then Judgment is even less likely to be so.

Posted

Buh. Wow, lots of posts overight... Having also played Judgement, I'll just second what Abominable said. Judgement should be considered about as canon ass Dust Strikers is, which is not at all. Its a rather basic story clearly only there for an excuse to have a beat-um-up.

Not only a ton of posts, a ton of replies. XD I hope I hit all of them.

To rallamajoop: There is no mention of how/why/when/etc Illyuria formed. One Japanese blog mentioned that there was a reference that there are THREE kings for Illyuria and that Ky is only one of them, responsible for the capitol. She said that came up in some sort of character description or something, perhaps that same "camp talk" I've seen floating around for Raven and The Man that may be unlocked after Campaign Mode. You'd need to ask someone whose actually beaten Campaign Mode to find out if that blogger is correct. In the game manual, it does describe the capitol of Illyuria as being the most prosperous city in the world. There was an ingame reference that Belcanto Valley is in southern Illyuria.

Game Manual description of Stages:

TORIORA

Towns and villages of islands floating in the sky. Because the residents possess peculiar powers they are called witches, and said to have been driven away from ordinary living.

YOMOTSU HIRASAKA

A foreign world enclosed by beautiful nature. Though scenery reminescent(?) of the now lost Japan, it is a land of uncertain position that does not exist in this world.

ILLYURIA

The castle town centered on the castle Ky governs. It is the capital of Ilyuria RenOuKoku as well as the most prosperous city in the world.

GANYMEDE

The ocean glittering like an emerald. The island that floats there alone is the paradise of GEARs who possess their own mind.

Belcanto Valley

A large-scale battle-scarred land of the times of the Crusades. It has priceless land value for the GEAR corpses and characteristic minerals that can be excavated there but people fear it as Canyon of Death (shi no keikoku).

It's alright to post the translation drafts for Overture elsewhere, disclaimer included.

To Zazz: In case you haven't found it already, I actually did Mission #20/Epilogue/Credits before I did #14-#19. It's back on page.... 33 of this thread.

To BioLogIn: You can host the translation drafts on .ru if you want. And as to regards to Solaria's origin, I'm fairly sure she was human. Having re-read LtA about a month ago, I'm fairly sure I didn't come across any mention of her being "artificial" or anything else done to her other than the GEAR conversion.

Oh yeah, and if one must be complete, Marina deserves mention as a human as well. She and Solaria are physically very similar, enough to pass as siblings. Whether they were once siblings, twins, or perhaps clones of one or the other, is not mentioned in the novel. However, Marina was also a candidate to be converted (until a lab worker stole her away and died of the injuries in that escape, whether the injury that cripples Marina was from that escape or something else [in which case she may have been lined up for extermination] is also not clear if I remember correctly, oh and she was found wrapped in a blanket that has the GEAR symbol on it, only Ky and the priest Melbeth recognized it).

To Hatred Edge: Well, there actually IS a good reason why someone would volunteer for the GEAR conversion. The original aim was simply to devise a means to accelerate human evolution, though it was still a highly secret project not known to the public. Frederick may have volunteered and you could take his bitterness toward the entire incident now as the result not being entirely what was expected (and probably figured out really soon back then that something else was up). According to the timeline, it was when the project was re-started almost half a century later when the focus was entirely on living weapons.

I think that was everything.

And no, Blade I haven't started listening to Night of Knives yet.

2theria I will gladly host, but I'll have to convert them to some sane coding before that, for me all punctuation signs in your files are messed (( As for Solaria\Marina plot, theria I right and I'm wrong. I misread Chang's retelling a little bit. Regarding Aria - OK, I also missed theria's script to GG2O ending, now I've read it. Is it the first and only place it was mentioned?
