FINAL ROUND XIV

Friday, March 11, 2011 - Sunday, March 13, 2011

Location Hilton Atlanta Airport

1031 Virginia Avenue

Atlanta, GA

It's on once again people to bring to you the 14th installment of the longest running Fighting game tournament on the east coast! That's right folks Final Round is back for another year and this year we are going to make this an event you won't want to miss. We are moving to a new location for FR14. (i'm sorry Justin Wong there's no tofu house near the new location) The Hilton Ballroom is a serious upgrade from the old hotel ballroom.

We have a EMS member "Scott Popular" aka "Negro Install" running a japanese ranbat tournament called FinalRoundBats and the winner of the finalroundbats in SSF4 will represent Japan at FR14. Great players like tokido and mago are recent winners of finalroundbats and I can't wait to see who comes to FR14.

Games:

Tekken6

Super StreetFighter 4

BlazeBlu:CS

MeltyBlood:AA

SF2ST HDremix

Arcana Heart3

Marvel vs Capcom 3

Guilty Gearxx:AC

FR2011 will not have more than 8 official games played this year. That doesn't mean there won't be a slight chance for unofficial games at FR14, but most likely only team tournaments will be added outside of the 8 official games. All team tournaments and unofficial tournaments will only happen on FRIDAY!

This year we are very excited to have TEAM SPOOKY as the our streaming host for FR14. The quality and production of their streams are well known throughout the FGC and now they will be broadcasting FR14 for all of the stream monsters! Get hyped!!!!!!!!! We will also be streaming tekken on friday and saturday on http://www.ustream.tv/channel/final-round-streams. This will be your spot to watch tekken.

It's time to get HYPED!!!!!

FinalRound.org - Home of the largest fighting game tournament in the Southeast! Click the link to the left or go under the "Events" option at the top to get to the FR14 Sub Menu and click "Register." Registration is pretty much the same as last year except for a few key points:

1) We are now taking pre-reg for GAMES AND BADGES!

2) THERE WILL BE NO REGISTRATION DURING THE EVENT ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY THIS YEAR. We're trying to expedite all of this to make it a little easier for everyone. The only line you'll have to wait in is the one to get your badge, which will be the same one to get into the event, which should now move way faster! There will be a registration period on Friday from 9am until 12:00 NOON, so if you can't get access to PayPal or a credit or debit card to pay securely online, you will have to register at the door on Friday! So pre-register online ASAP!

3) There is no more "pre-reg" list, as now in order to pre-register, you must also pay. We will start a "Who's Coming" thread in the forums to serve this purpose.

As usual, this is a manual process, so please allow up to 48 hours for your status to update - you will be able to see what games you have pre-registered and paid for. Contact me on the forums or through PM if there are any questions. Thanks!

Also be advised that we have an "EARLY BIRD" special entry badge fee of $30.00 (at the door will be $40) going on until March 6, 2011. Please take advantage of this great deal for your entry badges for FR14 while it still last. FR14 will be here before you know it and the hype is starting to build. Don't miss out on the start of the 2011 Major Tournament season at FR14! See ya in March Shawty!

As always, I heavily support Guilty Gear and always will. I really really want to see it return this year, and get some time on the stream. If anyone has gone to Final Round, they know that me and the staff have always supported the Guilty Gear scene and even relied on it to help hype Final Round. Please get in there and get your voice heard. I know the South still and always will have love for the game so please get over there, register (takes 30 seconds max), and vote (5 seconds). Lets support the game that has made us the community we are today.

I went last year, I liked the old location, the memories I had... either way I'm definitely going again.

To those wondering if they should go, definitely do so. Honestly I had more fun at Final Round XIII than EVO. Much better "local" atmosphere. Also, Larry aka ShinBlanka is the coolest guy ever.

Also voted for Guilty Gear too.

I apologize for asking silly questions, but will all games get a "fair" amount of stream time, or will it be 75% or more of SSF4 (I understand that SSF4 is usually the largest, and is also the favourite of many, but.....)? No offense, of course.

IMHO, if GG is selected to be in the official line-up, it would be great to have a decent amount of the tournament streamed (if possible), especially since GG often gets VERY LITTLE love (stream-wise) at majors, and it may not change unless someone sort of breaks the cycle... IMO, more people should get the chance to see how great of a game GG truly is (when possible/convenient for the staff)<3

First: Accent Core has been added to Saturday's lineup. GOGOGOREGISTER!!!!

Second: I can't speak for Friday as of yet, because we aren't yet sure what is going to be streamed, but Sunday this year is nothing but Top 8's and Top 16's, which will include Accent Core Top 8 as long as the Top 8 players agree to finish on Sunday. If the matches have to be completed on Friday for some reason, then the possibility may arise that AC will not be on the stream. Otherwise, it should most definitely be on the stream.

Sorry I havent been on here, but let me update you guys on whats going on. GGXXAC is an official tournament game now. We will get more games on the stream this year. Matter of fact there will be 2 streams going on at FR14. Team spooky will be handling the main stream and we will have a stream for tekken on friday and saturday. But since I control the stream I can put GG on there if I want to.

aLSO THANKS FOR THE the award Dustloop. GG has been a part of Final Round since forever. I appreciate your scene supporting FR and making it 1 of the hypest tournaments each year! Lets go and show everyone that GG is still alive and kicking in the Fighting game community!

As of right now I have to say GGXXAC has to be on friday. I don't want to have BB and GG going at the same time due to me wanting to put both tournaments on the stream for fr14. The more games on 1 day means some games might be left off the stream. I'm trying to balance the tournament games out so everyone gets some time on a stream and people aren't running back and forth between ggxxac and bb on the same day. I would say sat and sunday, but we are trying to have nothing but top 8 or top 16 on sunday. I hope people understand what i'm trying to do with the tournament. It's all for the greater good of the tournament. I think I will prolly put tekken, GG, Meltyblood on my stream on finalroundstreams and the gf on team spookys stream on sunday.

I have a question... Is it possible to hook up your gaming set-up on the Hilton Atlanta Airport hotel tv's? As in, it doesn't have that protection device?

Oops! That was from our original discussion Larry, I just never updated it.

GGXXAC is on Friday, BlazBlue is on Saturday. The full schedule is here (and should not be changing again):

http://www.finalround.org/FRXIV/index.cfm

Sorry about that!

Hang on, can we please discuss this first? Guilty Gear has been getting really, really good turnouts at the last couple of majors (SB & NEC), so moving it to Friday could be a deathblow to GG at FR. With the positive showing the GG scene has had with those past couple of majors, old names have been coming out of the woodwork and coming out of "retirement." I've also personally seen some very positive growth in local communities for the game. But a Friday tournament really could kill a lot of the positive growth we've seen simply because the community may not be able to make it in time.

The outlook for BB, however, does not look good at the moment. With CS2 hitting arcades and now release date for the patch on consoles, we could be facing a situation like we had at EVO 09 (in case you aren't familiar with that situation - CS had been out for awhile in the arcade and no one worth their salt was playing CT anymore, so the community decided to drop BB entirely). This is not the exact same situation, since CS2 is not going to see American shores. However, the BB community could still stop showing up for an old game that's going to go through many changes sometime (hopefully) very shortly after FR.

I am not part of the BB community, so I suppose that I shouldn't be speaking for them. If some upstanding member of the BB scene could comment on this, it'd be much appreciated. But I still wish to speak up and say that I would really appreciate GG being moved to Saturday. If you're only worried about stream time, we can run our own stream for GG and BB, provided that team stickbug shows up.

I agree with Kamui for the most part, especially since a lot of players tend to arrive in the afternoon or later; and also, if JefFree decides to run a team tournament on Friday night (if allowed).

Speaking of teams, if GG singles were to remain on a Friday afternoon, then would there be enough time/space/resources to even run a team tournament later that day/night-- or would it be allowed to happen ONLY if GG was somehow moved to a Saturday (IIRC, last year, the ballroom closed a bit early for some people's standards, and there is no guarantee that the tournament could be finished in a hotel room)? I may or may not go, but regardless, it would be great (it is a tradition<3) to have a GG team tournament, if it is not asking for too much <3

Sanoshi: Ooooh...we have to talk soon <3 Honestly, please try to make it out-- make it happen!

@Bumguy: Yessssssss. I really want to go to Final Round since it doesn't look like i can make it to Frosty Faustings. But i'm def saving money to make it to one major at least (besides evo), so hit me up through PM! :] Let me know the situation!

In all honesty, I wouldn't count on this.
