TheGreatReptar Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 So, I just watched some Guilty Gear X videos for the first time. I wish Dizzy was still that busted... FD canceling is jokes too. Makes Blazblue look well thought out and not busted.
Jewdo Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Main team is: Iron Man/Arthur/Sentinel Alternates and possible replacements: Doom, Storm, Dante, Magneto, C.Viper, Trish This first team is an experiment to see how important the OTG assists are. I think it's a good idea to have character(s) on OTG assist if your point character can't OTG him/herself. If they're unnecessary, I'll bring in one or more of the alts for more pure aggro. Love the game so far. They really thought of everything. I'd like to hit that netplay if anyone's down this weekend.

I find Ironman highly underrated, right now he's better than many of the more popular zoning/runaway characters yet no one is using him, plus he can 8way and fly. Hope you figure out sick shit with him.
Deadguy Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 So, I just watched some Guilty Gear X videos for the first time. I wish Dizzy was still that busted... FD canceling is jokes too. Makes Blazblue look well thought out and not busted. FDC/Faultless cancel dashing is like rollcanceling. If you are good enough to be able to do it consistently you deserve the reward. That game was actually really fun. Also, saying 'they really thought of everything' in marvel3 is laughable. Regardless, glad you are liking the game justin. Ironman was regarded as the best character in all the builds up to the final one. Remember how he got whored out at the evo build? He still seems really good.
TheGreatReptar Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 It didn't look like it was particularly easy in the videos, as they were doing it at the same point in the attack every time. I figured it was like old school FRCing. Pretty silly watching Jam pressure though. Also, I'm in the process of getting Arcana Heart on PS3. I'll let you know how it turns out. And are you planning on coming over later Paul?

And are you planning on coming over later Paul? It's a LOT harder than FRCing. The way it worked was like this: in GGX there were four buttons, p,k,s,hs. In order to do a dust attack, you hit s+hs at the same time. So for jam (for example), to do her c.s, c.hs loop you had to do 2s, 2hs 2s+hs and then cancel that dust on the first frame with a FD (which only happened if you did 2 or 1+p+k), in order to get a dash out of that and combo you have to do 646... 2s, 2hs 1s+hs 6, 4p+k, 6 oh ggx... home of the most epic mist finer loop.
TheGreatReptar Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 Dang. That must be why they were still having tournaments for it in Japan last year =P
Daysoo Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 My competition team is looking like Wesker, Magneto, Deadpool. Team "WMD". Wesker: Beta Magneto: Alpha Deadpool: Gamma Have Magneto start on point and be my battery, use deadpool trigger happy up assist to help him lock down and stop jump outs. Deadpool switches in and harasses the other team with hit and run when Magneto needs a breather. Wesker can aid deadpool after a knockdown with low shot assist combined with deadpool's overhead. Magneto can add to deadpool's zoning with disrupter. Wesker comes in and cleans up. Great against zoning characters because he can do Shot xx Teleport to get in. Magneto can help cover him with disrupter and Deadpool helps him get his mixup once he's in. Wesker can also do well on his own, so if the other two die he's still OK. Has good X-Factor combos.
Jewdo Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 (edited) @Deadguy: "Everything" probably isn't accurate, but so much of the game's identity feels designed with intent to address specific complaints/problems/demands (especially with respect to previous games) or draw attention to certain features. Whether the painting is beautiful is up to the viewer, but this artist laid his brush strokes with a visibly deliberate hand. From a design perspective at the very least, MvC3 feels solidly like it does what it was intended, and I guess that's what I was trying to say. Ironman was regarded as the best character in all the builds up to the final one. Remember how he got whored out at the evo build? He still seems really good. I find Ironman highly underrated, right now he's better than many of the more popular zoning/runaway characters yet no one is using him, plus he can 8way and fly. Hope you figure out sick shit with him. Iron Man feels like the business right now. The j.(8|5|2)-H opens many combo possibilities even without going infinite. Tri-jump L doesn't whiff like Mag or Storm's - it chains into launcher on same-side or cross-up hit. Wavedash after advanced guard works pretty well too. Mr. Stark does OTG work for himself and his teammates with Smart Bomb, and Unibeam is safe on whiff from full-screen now. Pretty scary dude. Paired with Sentinel or a similar assist, he's a flexible point character that I won't get tired of any time soon. My only worry is his short-range normals (compared to Dante), but I play Taokaka, so... probably not that big of a deal. I'll eat my own words later if I have to. FunkyP Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 And are you planning on coming over later Paul? I remembered i got an early econ test tomorrow and homework that needs to be done. Marvel isn't gonna help.
CrushrDestroyr Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Just finished Bayonetta. Man that game was bananas. GET HYPE FOR MARVEL 3 FRIDAY!
TheSlyMoogle Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Finished Bayonetta or destroyed Bayonetta? I'm still sad that the insane hard mode in Bayonetta was cake.
CrushrDestroyr Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 (edited) Iron Man feels like the business right now. That's cool, as I was considering playing him. Sadly, there's also like 10 other characters I wanna play and I have no idea how to decide or make a coherent team out of them when I do. So far my interest lie with Iron Man, Dormammu, Dante, Trish, Dr. Doom, Deadpool, Amaterasu, Akuma, Sentinel, and maybe Magneto. Gonna have to do spend some time figuring this shit out once I get the game. I don't know anything about trish. I've only gotten to play/watch a handful of characters. I'm apathetic torwards her so I probably won't play her. She seem to have a decent projectile assist, as well as the ability to play a Testament style keepaway with her traps. Also, her whirling blade super looks pretty useful as a lockdown/pressure tool as well as a safe way to switch her out for another character. If Sentinel's as retarded as you and other people seem to think, however, you might just wanna go with him. >.> Finished Bayonetta or destroyed Bayonetta? I'm still sad that the insane hard mode in Bayonetta was cake. I didn't think the game was THAT easy, but maybe I just suck LOL. Edited February 17, 2011 by CrushrDestroyr
Jewdo Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 (edited) X-Factor values (speed buffs approximated; they'll work until SRK releases exact figures)- Level 1 - 10sec, dmg+50%, spd+10% Level 2 - 15sec, dmg+75%, spd+20% Level 3 - 20sec, dmg+120%, spd+30% Mixed news from the Stark Expo. No airdashes correct attack direction on cross-up, so even the alcoholic mastermind can't jump>airdash>L to get the cross. He can, however, enter Fly mode immediately before/after crossing up and do a short overhead string ending in S. Every crossup in the game gets better with a ranged assist, so I'm going to stop saying it now before it gets old. Also found a fly>unfly>OTG>super combo for the corner that uses 5 fierces before the OTG. The timing is tough without an OTG assist, so I'm not using it online. Team Villain (Wesker-OTG, Magneto-DISREPTAR, Doom-Missiles) became an unexpected addition to my pre-sets, I'd encourage people to try it out. Final random note, C. Viper has some nuts cross-up potential even without a Fly mode. airdash-df>H>assist>thunder knuckle>... works, but the spacing is quite restrictive. I'll post if I find anything useful for her over the next few days. P.S. As of [this post] and [this other post], I take back everything I said about MvC3's design. Edited February 17, 2011 by Jewdo
TheSlyMoogle Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Oh there's a glitch with the kilgore and the claw weapons that rapes the game that I exploited heavily, and you could still use one of the subaccessories to enter witch time by way of a parry. Kilgore glitch was switching to kilgore weapon at the end of claw combo to get the massive amount of foot rockets without having to wait on the long ass kilgore animations. Basically it's broke.
FunkyP Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 (edited) Yo stayed up till 4am last night/this morning playing mvc3, still destroyed that econ test i had today. Shoulda went over to tech last night. Also figured out some 1.5mil instakill meterless combos with xf lvl3 D. Phoenix, 2mill using meter. Also setting traps after killing a character guarantees 20-25% damage on the next character if they come in blocking. For some reason XF D Phoenix's damage is more than tripled and allows her more combo opportunities in XF lvl3 compared to the rest of the cast. Regular D. Phoenix's damage output isn't nearly as good without XF. She can kill Sent in under 4 seconds flat. Edited February 17, 2011 by FunkyP

Iron Man is all around very strong, his tri jump is fantastic and he seems to build meter well, so I'm thinking he'll be my point char. Ammy does really underwhelming damage compared to the rest of the cast, I'm putting her on second because she needs meter to do well. Her slowdown super seems powerful though, I'll be testing it out more in my matches. P.S. As of [this post] and [this other post], I take back everything I said about MvC3's design. They actually fully intended X-23's infinite, it's included in her guide. Edited February 17, 2011 by Eshi

Jewdo Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Did you see this yet Justin? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbn0nTqcjv8 I lol'd. Almost got me in trouble at work.
Stig-san Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I'm rocking Mag/Deadpool/Sent My Sent need a LOT of work and the mission air rave combo doesn't seen to work on small characters. Gotta leave out the second mid. Mag on point, but eb keeps killing him unless i play super turtle with his magnetic shock projectile and sent assist. Deadpool is absolutely amazing. He might as well be the only character on my team. I prolly won't be there this friday unless some friends decide to cancel their trip down here. Can't wait to give you guys the business in marvel3
Jewdo Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Went online with a friend today; god did I need the practice. Team has been refined to Wolverine/(Iron Man|Magneto)/Doom for several reasons. Ground characters' hitboxes are just enormous, which makes it harder than I expected to get in with airdashers. Super jump is nowhere near as good as in MvC2. I also benched Arthur and Sent for being brainless with X-factor. I learn nothing from playing with them, but maybe that's the point? Wolverine is a balance between fun and effective that I can get behind, and the remaining roster has yet to commit any criminal offenses against the Law of Don't Be a Dick. Lastly I added a lot of you on PSN. I promise I will not spam invites and will gladly accept any received. G'night for now.
Eshi Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) I also benched Arthur and Sent for being brainless with X-factor. I learn nothing from playing with them, but maybe that's the point? pretty much. There's two reasons people play sentinel - 1. His drones assist is damn good 2. As a third, he has retarded comeback potential This game isn't like MvC2, comebacks are easy and happen too often. I honestly hope that low damage becomes the tournament standard. Edit: also this and this. That video of paul's ocv has gotten out of hand. Edited February 18, 2011 by Eshi
TheGreatReptar Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Success! Paul made a meme, which I inevitably helped make with my Phoenix shenanigans prior to the OCV. Therefore, I have helped create a meme *scratches off list of things to do*.
