Agni Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) UNiB just isn't going to live the initial release of multiple chain-shifts or loops-o-defeat down is it? In all honesty, why should it? Practically every FG has some crazy shit show up in the very first iteration. The whole genre works by giving the players characters and a system, and letting a metagame emerge from the chaos (look up "emergent gameplay"). When you have emergent complexity like that, sometimes unexpected stuff shows up (honestly it's more like unexpected crazy shit is simply inevitable--French Bread probably didn't intend for this kind of stuff to happen, they just emerged as players tested the system to its limits). I just don't see why UNIB gets called a kusoge when they've fixed most of the issues :/ Edited November 5, 2013 by Agni
Hecatom Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 From what i know, no one is calling current UNIB a Kusoge.
Agni Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Well that's what the other dude said. But the game WAS once considered a kusoge (despite the fact that nothing in it was that broken compared to stuff like CT!Nu or X-Factor!Sentinel and it's not like MVC3 or BBCT died inglorious deaths) and now only a few dedicated players play it. It's not getting new people.
Hecatom Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 I think that you are confusing what makes a game Kusoge, balance issues is not one of them, though many kusoge games end having bonkers balance Also everyone knows that MVC3 and UMVC3 are Kusoge, is just the USA players like to play that shit for some reason despite it has everything they claim that hate, also you can bet that if ASW didn't made BBCS BB would have died, BBCT was becoming quite stagnant in the amount of play that it was getting. Like i said, i think that the current ptoblems of UNIB are not related with the quality of the current game, is more that ASW has 3 games that get a lot of attention from the players but more importantly that UNIB is on Sega Ringedge 2 which is not as widespread like Nesica. That alone makes it harder for the game to get enough play. I actually think that the situation of UNIB will improve when the SR2 gets more games.
Skye Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Also everyone knows that MVC3 and UMVC3 are Kusoge, is just the USA players like to play that shit for some reason despite it has everything they claim that hate The secret to why so many people play Marvel. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and hype
TAI-X Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 MvC3 remains popular primarily because of the Marvel characters, everything else is secondary. Marvel properties are huger than ever nowadays, due to all the movies coming out on a constant basis.

Every big arcade shop that isn't a exclusive place for taito machines have ringedge 2 machines. And "Sega clubs" are basically the bigger shops for arcade machines right now. Ggxxac+r, unib, phatom breaker AC, vocaloid, etc are already in ringedge 2 system. And both doa5 UA and ggxrd are coming as ringedge 2 exclusives next year. And i don't see any evidence about unib loosing popularity. James Xie even commented that some arcade shops increased the price of the credit because people where playing it. Don't know why you guys are taking this rumor to hearth and making speculations using it as a basis. And then treating this speculation as a fact. Why... A new set of 5 videos have been upload to nico, check it ou =) http://www.nicovideo.jp/tag/アンダーナイトインヴァース?sort=f
Nephinel Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Has Enterbrain released a new mook for the Exe-Late update yet? Hopefully one that actually includes detailed frame data and such for every character.
F. Wily Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 (edited) Ouch. That sounds incredibly...sad. Not the people continuing to play their game despite no new players picking it up (seriously, props for the dedication), but playing the same people for years without any new blood emerging just sounds depressing. Yeah, well.... That is the thing. It's not really a matter of skill, it's a matter of do these players encourage others to keep at it. I have played a few of those guys then and now. Only now are they willing to teach, having gotten the point that they need to grow the circle of players. A pity it's this late, but oh well. UNiB just isn't going to live the initial release of multiple chain-shifts or loops-o-defeat down is it? Neither did Guilty Gear, Neither did BlazBlue... neither games made a great first impression with players. And got called Kusoge really fast. Look at both series now... That said, FB has been quick to try and fix the problems. Exe Late, for all intended purposes, is a much better looking game as a result. But yeah, it makes sense considering competition in fighting games is pretty serious business in Japan as players can only afford to spend so much of their time on a particular game. That and ASW is definitely drawing the attention of their fans in the FGC. I barely even hear anything about the newest revision of SF4 or anything SNK-related these days. I will be honest, I agree with Hecatom... this has more to do with an issue in marketing and distribution. The Ring-series isn't all that wide in terms of market share compared to the Taito X^2, and ASW has been making a lot of noise lately with the BBCP, P4U2 and GGXrd coming down the pipe. Considering things, that might change come GGXrd (considering that it is a RingEdge 2 game, for the moment). We'll have to see. Edited November 5, 2013 by F. Wily

Betto Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Didn't catch this earlier, but here's another short video with Akatsuki. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm22193626 Those 6C Agito Wari repeats! haha
Myoro Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 So, been a while since I checked up on UNIB. There're some things I wanted to ask. Is there anywhere I can view the characters movesets and explanations akin to the Dustloop Wiki's coverage of GG BB and P4A characters? Is there a place where the various systems and terminology in the game are explained I.E. Veil off, guard vorpal, etc.etc. Is there an archive for tourney videos? or perhaps a youtube page? Any place with a ton of vids I can enjoy, without sifting through pages and pages of stuff? Finally, and perhaps most importantly, why is Akatsuki nicknamed "The Jew Puncher?"
Kyosuke Kagami Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 i think the svastic cross on his uniform has something to do with it
TAI-X Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 "Jewpuncher" is a stupid-ass nickname and I wish people would stop using it. Akatsuki Blitzkampf has nothing to do with Nazis outside of a vaguely militaristic theme, and all the uniforms are much more Japanese in style than German.

I thought Adler and Elektrosoldat were referred to as Nazis though. Plus yeah, while the nickname "Jewpuncher" is pretty stupid, it has a sort of "so-dumb-it's-funny" feel to it. Especially for the sequel when they call it "Jewpuncher: Fruity Pebbles Edition".

Any place with a ton of vids I can enjoy, without sifting through pages and pages of stuff? The a-cho YT channel has a ton of UNI footage that are most of the time an hour long. Just search "under night" and voila.

To answer a few questions, 1. Don't know of any place to find that data. I'd be surprised if there actually existed a place with all that information organized and detailed as well as the Dustloop wiki to be honest. 2. The closest thing to that I've seen is the gameplay primer on Mayonaka Midnight, which can be found here: http://mayonakamidnight.com/showthread.php?556-Under-Night-In-Birth-Gameplay-Primer. I'm sure it's missing data and isn't up to date with the new stuff though like the universal B+C move and the Guard Thrust/Counter Assault 3. Abelcru has uploaded quite a few videos of Exe: Late on his channel. You can check it out: http://www.youtube.com/user/AbelcruEX?feature=watch

For explanation of every mechanic and every move of the game (even comand normals that aren't listed in the official site), it would be better to refear to jp wiki http://www18.atwiki.jp/un_inbirth/ For videos, the best is using nico douga http://www.nicovideo.jp/ (you can login in it using facebook account). Then seach for the tag アンダーナイトインヴァース and order the videos from the most recent to the older selecting the 4th option from bottom (http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/8903/npdg.png) If you don't want to do it, Abelcru reupload some of those videos of nico to his youtube account ( http://www.youtube.com/user/AbelcruEX/videos ), but there will be some loss in quality and there may be a delay bettwen the video comming out in nico and it beeing reupload to youtube.

Akatsuki Blitzkampf has nothing to do with Nazis outside of a vaguely militaristic theme, and all the uniforms are much more Japanese in style than German. Well if you want to be technical the Japanese did put the Jews on a extremely restricted and crowded slum in Shanghai alongside the Chinese. Some say that about 2.000 jews(that's probably exaggeration) died on that Slum So you could argue that they can be called Jewpunchers
Pichy Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Incidentally, I've had more people get interested in ABK by saying "hey let's play Jewpuncher! It's 3S with nazis and there's also a tank" than by saying "let's play ABK it's an indie 3S!"
