The more you play, the better you get. The better you are, the more you understand the game. The more you understand the game, the more you can appreciate watching it. (well, that's arguable)

@Thelo, Jimmy, Kazuhiro : Toryuken room is booked. The plan at the moment would be to meet up at the longueuil metro station around 6:30PM on Friday the 16th, return some time Monday afternoon. I'll let you guys know if anything changes.

Here's me 2-3 years ago, in the MTLHQ days, from a random Google search I just showed up and said "Hey, I play BlazBlue." And they welcome me and played. I remember clearly getting destroyed by Level5, Air and Pochp, but I enjoyed myself, I even came back and kept on playing. Eventually the HQ died. They moved to Foonzo and random house gatherings which I went to, just kept playing and enjoying myself playing with other people with similar interest, I also had Nini Heart that I was looking forward to. Then I went to a small tournament in Ottawa and I got destroyed, and only then did I start getting the drive to better myself with my character no matter what. Then CSEX came out, my character had apparently gotten low tier but I didn't care, all that came to my mind was getting better with the character I enjoyed so much. I just kept on playing and playing, I wasn't winning but I definitively saw improvement. Eventually it just happened, I started winning, I went to many majors, I met new faces, losing but gaining motivation in return, and ever since, nothing but good things came in return, I was finally able to beat opponents I couldn't even think of beating before. Don't give up man, keep on playing!

Lately, I've been letting people convince me to play. Need to get back to actively dodging and refusing!

Where is the dislike button?

Now if you've decided you mostly care about having fun and not so much about improving, it's perfectly fine. Ignore the rest of the comment.

It's important to play but it's also important to understand. Watch videos (N-O!!!!!!), ask questions, reflect on your matches. Also, I'll be blunt: change your attitude or you will never improve. Seems you're having a self-confidence issue here. How do you expect to win if you don't even believe you're capable of overcoming the challenge? Read this http://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1s1dp43. Everyone went through the difficult process of losing and losing and losing repeatedly, the players you are looking up to right now are the ones who stood up and fought back.

By the way, did you practice (5A > j.2AD j.B > dj.B j.A j.C > (microdash)) x 4 like I told you to?

I'm sorry to use this as an example, I hope you don't mind Pedro.

When I first played the Pedrius, he was so fucking free. I couldn't imagine losing a match to him. Execution, mental fortitude, mind games, mixups... Everything was lacking.

Now Pedro fucking kicks my ass, and he's the one who came closest to beating LK's Kokonoe in tournament. I'm the one who has to catch up to him. If I meet Pedro in a tournament, I'll start to sweat and curse the bracket gods.

It's not complicated man... Keep playing and you will improve. That defeatist attitude will get you nowhere, be it in fighting games or in life in general, and is just quite unpleasant in general.

Totally agree Pedro used to be free. Then Foonzo happened and he's gdlk now.

Now I'm free because I don't even play anymore.

But yeah, it takes time. Keep practicing and stay hungry.

Some players play the game for fun and or seriously.

The more you do X, you get better at doing X.

That's just how life works.

Just remember, at the end of the day, we are still playing a video game.

Got it, I'll be there. Thanks!

Ya well like Sam said... If you DON'T wanna be competitive, then disregard what we're saying lol. It's all good if you just wanna have fun without any pressure to become better.

Can't say I agree with that. You don't need to be winning all the time, but you have to have some form of success now and then, otherwise you'll only feel frustration at yourself. I wouldn't want to play either if I felt I had no chance of winning at all.

Good conversation, good reminder of what's great about the MTL scene.

Lately, I've been letting people convince me to play. Need to get back to actively dodging and refusing!

???

There is so much wrong in this post, I don't even know what to say...

What's the point of coming to a place to play video games, post in a forum about said video games, watch videos about said video games, and never ACTUALLY play said video game (outside of arcade mode, which is never really that fun)?

Whether you're competitive or not, shouldn't stop you from playing the game you enjoy.

although, if one isn't interested in winning, why play fighting games at all?

Winning is fun, it's the aim. But when playing winning/improving/having fun all goes hand in hand. I like being pushed to my limits and forced to improve, if not I get bored and stop playing.

But we all have our personal motivations and what we deem as to have fun in a game.

VRaiden rocked my shit when we first started playing. But I honestly loved it, or even your Ino when we first played. But I enjoy those matches the most, when there's something to overcome. If I don't have a mountain to overcome I lose interest and no longer derive fun from what I'm playing.

But at the end of the day, if you're playing a game because it's fun and enjoy learning more about the game and want to learn more about the game to improve and to have more fun. You need to get your hands wet, no point of watching/analyzing videos, posting in forums, reading posts, buying the game, and finally coming to foonzo only to watch people play the game you enjoy. Even guys like Jonio and St1ckbug make sure to keep themselves involved in their games by still playing it, even if they don't always get the opportunity to invest in the game like top players examples like LK, Ogawa, and FAB.

Anyways, I might come through thursday, it's tentative. I might be the chauffeur of my dad all day...

EDIT: Oh yeah +1 for Pedro being unfree, he has a very strong and creative mind when it comes to mixup/oki.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love that. It drives me forward to improve and find new ways to negotiate the difficulties. But in the end, why do I put in so much effort? Because I want to win.

You need to have a bit of desire to win for everything else to be put into motion. Everything revolves around this, it's the pivot.

True, it's like anything else that's competitive, but I don't hate losing. When I'm playing your Johnny and we're busy mashing sword normals whether I win or lose I'm enjoying the matches, but yes I'm playing like that, and I'm playing you because I want to beat you, it would be pointless for me to play you if I didn't have any intention of winning.

I just don't like the logic of, "it's only fun so long as you're winning", is all.

It's why I play characters like Hakumen and Slayer. RNG is on my side.

I'm not going to lie.

Even if I always say I play BB as a video game and I only play for fun.

I really enjoy winning.

I don't get salty when I lose a match or two.

But when its a series of matches, then salt just starts pouring it.

Yes, I'm looking at YOU WakeUpDP. #Salt  :RE:

I can't tell if you're talking about a player called WakeupDP or if you mean wakeup DPs.
The only thing that gets the salt pouring for me is netplay delay or bad sportsmanship. Win or lose, I still have fun.

He's talking about both.
