BladeOfJustice7 Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 but I don't really know how to. How exactly do you need help with that?
Rhannmah Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I didn't stay for too long but we got in some good games and one nice GG session. I think I really should hunker down and learn it properly, but I don't really know how to. Just ask the resident expert :eng101: tell me which character you want to learn and I'll help you with the basics and tell you who is the best player of that character
unsanctifier Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Listen to Rhannmah, he's the closest to attaining semi-free in MTL right now =P
pochp Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Guess I'll answer for him. Looks like Order Sol and/or Slayer, but you probably could have guessed that Could you give me some answers to those questions for my zappa (top players, other than mitsurugi)?
unsanctifier Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 learn - every - stance with zappa you want to learn to be tricky as fuck, and random as hell fighting as zappa means you get away with a lot of shit that just usually shouldn't work on people just because he is so weird to look at get ready to do next to no damage and maximize on random hits as much as possible, you'll be doing lots of oki as well because you drop people a lot getting raou out is high priority, you essentially win the match from that point on unless you're terrible that is if you're really good at combo execution (iunno how hard these are) but there are a few infinites with the dog summon~
pochp Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Random + wierd. Sounds fun. (well, until people figure it out )
Sophisticat Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 How exactly do you need help with that? Well, as it is it takes me like, half an hour of play just to get used to seeing stuff fly around on screen. Different game visuals/resolution messes me up. I also need match exp., but those are rare since it's only once in an odd while with you guys. Not having online sucks. Also, Ps2 pad is shit. Can't even do quarter circle motions on that thing. I was doing dusts all over the place instead of FBs. I think I'll genuinely use stick if I play GG just so I don't have to deal with Ps2 pad. Just ask the resident expert :eng101: tell me which character you want to learn and I'll help you with the basics and tell you who is the best player of that character Yay. :D As Pedro said, I like HOS and Slayer the most while also dabbling in a bit of Johnny, though I seem to be gravitating towards Slayer since he's similar to Hakumen and perhaps closer to my playstyle than HOS after all. I'd really like to get good with HOS, but he's going to need a lot of work to even get out decent combos with. He's said to be the second hardest character in the game to learn, so yeah. It's funny, I seem to almost invariably go for the characters that use hops for movement (Haku, Valk, Slayer, Johnny). Weird how that works out.
pochp Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I hope I'm not getting annoying with this, but you keep picking the sophisticated characters, and they come with their sophisticated way of dashing.
Sophisticat Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 LOL! Yeah, maybe, though perhaps the word here would be "poise". They can all be real chill in their corner while being zoned. Then they turn on a dime and suddenly! 80% hp combo. I like that. :P
BladeOfJustice7 Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 Watch videos to see how order sol is run be pros, and play others as much as you can. In this case rhannmah would be your best bet. Kaqn was a NASTY order sol back in the day, and should serve some ideas. Don't watch fg matches for combos, watch to see how the character is played and see what they use and don't use at different ranges. Then go ask someone why. But start by getting a lot of exposure in playing it first, then move onto videos. Hope that helps. I'm off to sleep. Pedro, when I get back we'll speak in person about MAT8.
T.Kang Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) For the ones interested in Battle Fantasia, I'd gladly gameshare it on one of your PS3. I'd be willing to learn GG, but I guess that learning a game by myself DURING a meetup just sucks. Which is why I wasn't motivated in learning my combos with HOS the other day. If shit gets big, I'd be more than willing to learn GG with you guys. Kaqn was indeed NASTYYY, been watching his videos and it's written AWESOMENESS all over the place. I also wanna re-learn stuff on 3rd Strike, if anybody's interested in learning it with me. I really need to pratice my parry timing back again and stuff. Just tried out Q today against my friend and, man, gotta rep that RAINCOAT CREEPER. He's fucking awesome. I could also give Arcana Heart 3 another chance. Playing it on keyboard could be the reason behind my dislike for it (and the fact that I didn't know how to config my buttons)... So PEDRO, TEACH ME. MvC3 still is not a game I would like to get competitively on, too fucked up for me. And MAT8 is looking srsly HYPEEE. What is the limit date for us to give the money to Cranky for dat little $10 OFF? My list of games I would like to play competitively / improve on (in order of preferences): - GGXXAC - SFIII 3rd Strike - Virtua Fighter 5 - Battle Fantasia (I know it's dead, but we could always give it a shot?) - Melty Blood Actress Again - Arcana Heart 3 Edited April 9, 2011 by T.Kang
unsanctifier Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Sophisticat just has good taste in characters. (I really just mean Slayer)
pochp Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 @Nolan : Yup, complete opposite for me. I go with the characters that poke/reset/zone with lower damage, but then I screw up and end up on the receiving end of what you said. @Eb : Well, next week is probably going to be really busy for me (I'd be really surprised if we manage to finish our project before Thursday midnight aka the due date), so I probably won't go to a meetup next Thursday/Friday. Unless you're there this Sunday, it would be the following Sunday, I guess. @Ken : I think GG is getting more and more people interested. Just play some casuals against another scrub like me at meetups, eventually you'll get a good feel for your attacks (spacing, situations, unsafe shit) and get used to landing/confirming BnBs. Me and Brice play at least a game or two of third strike every meetup, I think Airmaster and maybe a few others would be up for some casuals, but hey, I'm really horribad at that game, all I do is jab/roundhouse/DP. I'll show you some AH3 next time, good thing there's a computer at the HQ, because I really don't know every character's BnBs, but hey, (2A-)B-C-SUPER is usually enough when you're not used to the game. If you want to practice at home, you could plug in your controller/stick and then use joytokey and whatever driver you need (Motioninjoy works well for ps3 controllers, sticks don't always require you to download a driver). Stick layout is ABC controller layout is: square A triangle B Circle C Cross D R1 E D E A+B (+motion) is supers, A+D is grab, A+B+C is extend force, C+E is burst. A is light attack, B is medium, C is strong, and D is homing. E is special, kinda like in MvC3, if you use it with a motion, it is 100% arcana specific. 5E knocks your opponent away. 2E is a universal launcher I think(need to use homing cancel to follow up as well, usually), some characters' anti-air too. [5]E and [2]E are unblockable or guard crush, j.E is character specific, but can work as an air combo finisher and all E moves usually are slower and have greater range than C moves. But hey, this wiki has a lot of info if you want to look into it : http://arcana.mizuumi.net/wiki/Main_Page Battle Fantasia would be fun to try out at a meetup with everyone not really knowing what they're doing and figuring it out as they go, don't see it becoming much more than that though Melty looks like a really great game, but I'm going to put priority on other games first. We don't always have a copy at meetups, barely anyone plays it, but it's a game I'll definitely learn after I feel "decent" in GG, AH3, CS2(if it comes out one day, lol). @Unsanctifier : don't you mean Valk too?
AirMaster Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Battle Fantasia is lots of fun. I'm down for playing that and 3rd Strike anytime!
BladeOfJustice7 Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 @Eb : Well, next week is probably going to be really busy for me (I'd be really surprised if we manage to finish our project before Thursday midnight aka the due date), so I probably won't go to a meetup next Thursday/Friday. Unless you're there this Sunday, it would be the following Sunday, I guess. Any sunday except for tomorrow I'll be free. Let me know when you are as well.
kaeru Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) On the subject of PS2, last month Toodles made a new board that i didn't know about until today. http://shoryuken.com/f177/official-kitty-class-boards-thread-268272/ Basically anyone with an Xbox360 TE can very easily make their stick multi console. I can help with this it looks maddeningly easy. Edited April 9, 2011 by kaeru
pochp Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Wow. Maybe I'm underestimating this, but I get the impression that using the tools they have at the HQ, if I get there early on a Sunday, I could finish in one session and still have time to play. Seeing as the PS2 mod requires an RJ-45, looking at the optional step, is the pt.4 (ps2 cable) of this tutorial, http://shoryuken.com/f177/rj-45-multi-console-cthulhu-arcade-stick-tutorial-ver-2-a-231734/ what I should follow for building the cable and this specific piece http://www.amazon.com/Neutrik-NE8FDP-Ethercon-Through-Connector/dp/B00067JSTG all I need as materials in addition to a standard short RJ-45 cable for the sticks's side? Just making sure, because this sounds way too perfect (cheap and easy), and like wtf, I have a ps3 but bought the 360 TE for modding purposes and kinda regretted it because the piece I had in mind went out of stock but now this... Sounds crazy. I was just telling myself that I was going to delay this, but heck, why delay it when this is available. Having my own PS2 stick might be a good motivation to finally learn melty XD now to start thinking about buttons, artwork and other stuff... Anyways, thanks for the heads up. @Eb: looks like next sunday it is.
pochp Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 At what time do you guys coming to the HQ want us to open tomorrow? Just so we don't open at 1 PM and no one shows up before 7 PM. Pretty sure I'm going to give Brice a ride, so we're not going to depend on Chambly's horrible Sunday bus schedule. @Nini : do you still want a TV? Unless some shit happens like last week I could bring it to your place tomorrow and give you a ride to the HQ after.
Nini Heart Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Uhh, not now. Exam period, I think I shouldn't have a TV atm.
kaeru Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I would be there if you opened at 1 pm, but i don't mind later either. We can discuss what you need to do in person if you want to use the kittyboards, but since you have the Blazblue version, you NEED to wait for his next generation. The TE-S, Blazblue and i think Marvel Madcatz sticks use a different PCB so that the start and select can work with the lock switch. It won't work with his current Kitty board, but he's working on another one for those PCBs.
pochp Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 oh shit I assumed it was the same PCB as TE round 2, not TE-S. Well guess I'll just wait for the next gen to come out, I've got it laid out and will be ordering some samples tonight, but for the time being, TE Kitty doesn't work in TE-S based sticks. I hope to have that fixed asap, but there is no ETA. It's good to know he's working on it. People are saying how easy it is in that thread, I really can't wait for him to finish. Maybe I could build the RJ-45 PS2 cable while waiting. Is this cable also used for the MC-Cthulu and other mods towards PS2? Just so in case he ends up not being able, I won't have it done for no reason. Also, we'll very probably open as close to 1 PM as we can tomorrow then. We'll talk about all this, I just feel like if I don't post it I'll forget for sure. @Nini : good idea. are you still coming tomorrow?
Nini Heart Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Not sure. Probably will though. I don't have "that much" work so there's like a 80% chance I show up tomorrow, unless something shows up.
kaeru Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) Yea, RJ45 is the ideal plug to use with the old Multi Console Cthulhu because it needs 8 wires for all consoles. The best thing to do is to get extension cables for the consoles you want and cut off the female end and replace it with a male RJ45. Odds are the consoles you make won't need all 8 wires. PS2 for example only needs 7, Xbox360 and PS3 only need 4, etc. The layout of the RJ45 is very important so it goes to the right places inside the stick. You could get started with that if you wanted. There are many different kinds of RJ45 cables. The most popular ones are in the link i gave you last time, the ones made by Neutrik. pochp Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 And so the quest for an old PS2 controller begins, can anyone help me with this? I'm willing to buy it used from someone.
