Volpe-de-Glacio Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I can see bitching about Aegis to an extent, but Mitsuru isn't even that great. For an S-tier character with a supposed 7-3 match-up with Liz, she's actually pretty fun to go up against.
Jackie Chandler Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 (edited) I'd like to make it. I would most like to ride up with Chandler if he's going, but I can't even get him to text me back for gaymes. I'm so unpopular. Herp. Sorry, I'm really notorious for missing texts. XD I hate to sound rude, but with all this interest in Persona amongst friends, I've already got a full car. I'll be bringing Eireprince, MrMinionMan, and trettree up this Saturday to MTN. Mustangs only have four seats- but honestly, with the kind of space the interior has, it might as well just be a two person car. Things can get uncomfortable when people have to sit in the back seat. :/ Maybe you can g-ram could ride up together? EDIT: OH. You're talking about Fight Night. Nah, I can't afford to make that drive twice in one week, haha. Babysitting money </3 Edited August 14, 2012 by Jackie Chandler

Grimstar Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Does anyone else read Jackie's posts in his voice? This one especially. It's awesome. Nope, I read every post in Pat's voice.
Papstr Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I can see bitching about Aegis to an extent, but Mitsuru isn't even that great. For an S-tier character with a supposed 7-3 match-up with Liz, she's actually pretty fun to go up against. Lot of times, the simple yet powerful (at least early on) characters tend to be considered not that great after a while. A good example I can think of was UMVC3 Wesker, who was considered herp aderp godlike for a while, until Zero came along and Wesker basically become just really simple and really strong. I wouldn't be surprised if Mitsuru is considered weaker (or others get stronger, whatever) with time. I will say I finally played one online and it was a huge pain in the ass because I could literally do nothing, but I'm gonna pin that on lag. Lag seems to be a recurring issue for me, despite the fact that this game has solid netcode. Maybe I'm just sensitive to even the slightest delay, but it sucks when Chie's Skullcracker is unblockable because your high to low switch doesn't register fast enough. inb4KeithtellsmeI'mwrongaboutMitsuru As for fight night: Dunno if I'll show.
Grimstar Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 All of you fools need to show up tomorrow night. For I shall not be at the tournament saturday, and tomorrow is the only day to get Grimstar battles. AKA the most awesome kind of battles.
LastStarSaviour Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Might make it tomorrow, don't know yet, ride situation looks iffy.
g-ram Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Ya I'm gonna try to make it tomorrow night but it depends on when I get back from South Carolina, at first I wasn't sure if I wanted to get in the car again but fuck it. I'd rather be in the car longer if I had the ability to level up my play. I just have such a drive with this game to get good.
Seiki Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Star if you need a ride to Fight Night I'll give you one.
Urichinan Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 (edited) I can see bitching about Aegis to an extent, but Mitsuru isn't even that great. For an S-tier character with a supposed 7-3 match-up with Liz, she's actually pretty fun to go up against. To be fair, no one has really caught on to her yet. She can get around 1K just from a simple two/three hit combo like 2Ax2 > A Coup which is a lot better than most characters can do from a low of that range. She has the highest meterless damage from the most starters compared to the rest of the cast, she has really, really long range, counter hits let her corner carry from any normal, she can use D and EX Bufudyne as oki to apply safe mixups, which on hit will freeze the opponent and lead to a 3-4K combo+corner carry. All of her A's are safe, her j.B is safe when jumping backwards, you can hop over lows with 5B, you can special cancel her DP into a fully invincible super, she has three attacks that reach 3/4 of the screen and can be hit-confirmed into 2-3K combos+corner carry, A Coup is safe on hit and block, her 5C is safe and let's you go for a high/low/throw mixup, you can fake her sweep and be safe from DP's, or go for a low/throw mixup, she has a super that makes her completely safe while applying pressure because it shoots projectiles during the gaps. What part of that doesn't sound like a top tier character? Obviously she can be dealt with because she's linear, but she outclasses most of the other characters in a lot of ways. And Aigis is even better. Also, she's got MARIN KARIN. EDIT: For the record, I'm also not complaining. And personally I still think Aigis, Teddie and Chie are better than her, but this is basically what makes her so good. Edited August 14, 2012 by Urichinan

I never said that she didn't have excellent tools, just that for a character that's supposed to outclass mine terribly whilst being S, the match-up isn't all that frustrating, and I usually only lose because I made bad reads.

A Coup is, B Coup isn't. And depending on a far it hits from it can be safe due to reach and her starting her recovery frames during the last few active frames. (Like a meaty)

Tophatmoffet Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Definitely making it tomorrow. Bringing my setup unless someone objects. Labrys is dumb levels of fun.
Seiki Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I don't really think S tier in Persona and KOF is like other fighting games S tiers. They don't dominate but have some significant advantages. The gaps on the tier list aren't that wide to begin with so even a character on the lower end of the tier list has a good chance against an S tier character. i don't think 7-3 matchups exist in this game.

As Star and I get better, the matchup is starting to feel more and more like 7-3. It's not absolutely frustrating, but we're starting to see Mitsu's advantage. Looking back, I realize I'm being rather vague. Without frame data there's not much I can say; I'm not exactly gifted with analytical skillz. Edited August 14, 2012 by Volpe-de-Glacio
Milln Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 Unless it's outrageous, frame data doesn't mean a whole lot on its own and also doesn't necessarily translate well into an actual match. Whaddayamean not good analytical skills! You need to be making those reads as Elizabeth!
Tophatmoffet Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 >Fighting a yu that takes advantage of the fact that he's yu (think jackie) >Final round he's low on health >214214B unblockable super through his wake up ziodyne >The room has been disbanded.

Whaddayamean not good analytical skills! You need to be making those reads as Elizabeth! In a game without barrier guard or pushblock, frame traps could be REALLY strong. Frame data and proration data are a lot more important for some characters than they are for others. Knowing exactly what is safe, what has what attribute, what can frame trap, and what can be used where I think can really make or break a character/match-up.
LuminAbyss Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Yeah, that's for sure. For now though, I just learn from trial and error what works and what doesn't for frame traps, and what's safe and what's not.

I can agree with this at least for yukiko. Her frame traps are absolutely devastating. Also, Naimat, dude. Give dem pointers on Akihiko, need to learn that dude. Only character I can slightly play as besides Yuki is Yu and he is nearly as square jawed as akihiko. That and you said he is like KOF, i need that.

Grimstar Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 ggs Naimat and Lee. Trolololol spring dash :D also I can't believe that reversal beats grabs. So hype.
Tophatmoffet Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 all counter/invincible (all dps) beat grabs.
