Middle Tennessee Needs Gaming! Monthly Versus Tourneys - Antioch, TN

Real talk, I love Spelunky. I really wish it had an online mode, because I'd probably play it all the time, even if it was shitty and laggy.

And on an unrelated note, it sometimes scares me how much you secretly know about me, haha. :P

I had Spelunky in my sights for a while, and it looked fun. It was on sale last week, so I instantly snagged it. Looking for tips/tricks/cheats/etc., I took to the Youtubes. There was an impressive speedrun that I watched in full, and after it ended, I noticed your name. It was really surprising, because I've never heard you mention the game.

Anyway, I'm slowly getting better at it. Dragging the key all the way down to 3-3 and dying by A RANDOMLY EXPLODING UFO was one of the saddest moments in my gaming career, right behind not holding an Atomic Collider for a split second more, which cost me $200+.

@mAc & Seiki: You both make some very good points, I'll try to exercise more restraint.

@Star: I agree that people need to chill (myself included). I'd also like to reiterate that I still think you're a cool guy and I don't hold any ill will towards you personally. That being said,

4) Also, you knowing more about Haku-Men than me is debatable. I've mained CT Haku-Men and subbed CS1 Haku-Men and have followed his changes pretty well all the way to Extend. On top of that, i've gotten to fight some really strong Haku-Mens that i've been able to test a lot of tech against, so yeah.

That's a bold statement to make. I've mained Hakumen exclusively since day one CT. I have won an 8-2 matchup against Arakune in a major tourney match (FRXIII), I've eliminated Lord Knight from a major after he tried to counterpick me (FRXIII), and I have placed top 8 at every Final Round that has featured Blazblue (4th at FRXIII, 5th at FRXIV, 7th at FRXV). I don't consider myself a top player, but have been told by a few that I was the best American Hakumen until Spark came along (who I will readily admit is much more skilled than I am), including one time where LK told me personally that I "make JackG look free" (the former Hakumen mod before Spark). I have probably spent hundreds of hours in training mode; there are still some secrets I have never shared with anyone in various iterations of BB regarding Hakumen.

I'm down to MM you if you want to find out for yourself. FT10 for $100 at Final Round? Perhaps $200?

It's a shame we couldn't play at Milln's last weekend.

@Skeletal - I'm not saying that I know more than you. I'm just simply stating that it's debatable seeing as we don't know to what depths either of us have trained in the game. This is especially so since it's been relatively easy for me to gain information about the game via frame data and fighting people. While you think you've spent more time in the lab than me, I feel i've spent a fair amount of time in the lab (with Noel as opposed to your haku-Men) equally, if not more so than you. Again though, that's debatable since I doubt either of us have kept logs calculating how long we go to training mode everyday...at least, I pray to god we don't.

Also, i'd be cool with a money match if I wasn't poverty. I'm assuming we'd both be using our mains (Your Haku-Men vs my Noel). Sounds fun and i'll make sure to actually have my buttons correct next time.

I'm going to keep ignoring the current topics and post another video:

In the time it took to complete that combo, I took a nap and came back.

@tret, there would be no point in making a new console if they only focused on graphics and peripherals. . . I say it's optimized for devs because they've been asking for consoles with 8gigs of memory for awhile for ease of development. We're probably going to see an increase in the size of worlds, the persistent environmental artifacts we can affect, and so on and so forth.

I wasn't actually responding to your post before, but I see what you're saying. Still, it kind of annoys me. I see something like what they attempted with Blighttown in Dark Souls and don't think, "well, it might have been an okay area if the PS3 had better memory," I just think it excessive. The bigness or density of a place doesn't really enhance shitty level design.

Out of curiosity and interest in vocabulary expansion, what is an affect-able persistent environmental artifact? Is that just referring to things like bridges, buildings, etc that linger long after your PC has dismantled them? I'm not particularly well-versed in developer lingo.

I've seen Chandler's Youtube, I know all about his Spelunky escapades.

Oh, you don't know the half of it. :P Makes me happy people actually look at my Youtube page though~.

Oh man, you made the right choice. $6 was a steal for it. EDIT: Oh, you meant you saw me in the comments. My bad. Yeah, that WAS an impressive run on that guy's part though. :P

Honestly, giving the key to the Shortcut Man at the end of the Ice Caves is probably one of the worst things you ever have to do in the game (beating Hell aside, and finishing the game without collecting ANY treasure if you decide to go for the Achievement ;n;), so once you get over that, it'll be smooth sailing for the most part. And sorry to hear about what happened (in both those instances, really) but I totally know how you feel.

Just last month, I was working on another speed run attempt. I really felt like I was getting the hang of things, even though luck was still a big factor in getting a good Shopkeeper layout in the second area. I proceeded to go through the game in record time, and even though I got hung up on the last area before Olmec because of a stupid mistake in finding the exit, I managed to reach the boss with 2:52 on the clock. No joke. And since I found an awesome strategy to take him down in about 30 seconds, I was totally set for a spot close to the top of the Leaderboards (the best last I checked was 3:30:521). So I'm doing it. I'm doing it. I get to the very bottom. Olmec just has to hit it one more time!... And!...

A snake falls on my head and kills me.

I.

I wanted to cry. I died with 3:27:315 on the clock. Probably not enough to beat the best time, but I was so close to getting an awesome time and spot on the Leaderboards... And then that happened. T_T But at least I got it all on video, haha. Talking about it has kind of inspired me to edit and upload it, so I'll post a link once it's up in case you guys want to see it.

Do so, Jackie. This is Middle Tennessee Needs Gaming, not Middle Tennessee Needs Fighting Games.

We're here to nurture all types of games and players and grow them into wonderful people.

Heck, some of you know my racing game career and my mmorpg pioneering.

I heard racing games what's up

Well I guess this is as good excuse as any to tell the story.

I used to be super big into racing games. Arcade style, specifically. I love VERSUS racing where you're directly against a human, time trials bore me and racing sims are also boring. Not as Milln, but as some name I had years ago I was pretty unstoppable. Racing's in my blood. My family has always raced or been around racing. I'm sure my records are gone by now, but I had them at one time. Racing is just a thrill to me. The tensing up, everything whooshing by, constantly watching all lanes and all cars and mapping out routes not just down the road but between cars and mapping more weavings in case someone speeds up or otherwise. I didn't stay there because there's no competitive scene outside time trials and I got bored quick and switched to mmorpgs where I continued to flourish.

When I was in Canada, I visited Playdium, their biggest arcade in Toronto and they had this giant ultra deluxe sit down Outrun 2 machine. Oh man. I was having a horrid day due to stuff that had gone awry and Outrun 2 happens to be my comfort game. I spent the whole evening just messing around and taking all the ghosts on the paths. I'm sure, unless they clear scores on a schedule, that there's a yellow GX named MILN confounding everyone that plays it up there still. =3 I just love arcade style racers.

Jackie's post that in turn elicited my response made me realize a couple things. I'm going to do more of what I really want and it begins, or began, with me going 16-4 on speedlists on Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012 just now. Gonna hush here because I never feel comfortable talking about the things I've done.

<3 I love this post, and agree 100%.

... so this means we're gonna start running Catherine, right? :kitty:

No. Don't you DARE hush. Get comfortable with it, 'cause you have my attention and I'm listening. :v:

It's a phrase I pulled out of my ass for objects remaining persistent in the environment after you've interacted with them, so yeah, you're thinking right. I think the PS4 will probably have more leg room in making the environment a lot more satisfying to interact with.

And you're right, it doesn't enhance shitty level design. But at least your game wouldn't slow to a crawl because the devs fucked up on this one.

The tensing up, everything whooshing by, constantly watching all lanes and all cars and mapping out routes not just down the road but between cars and mapping more weavings in case someone speeds up or otherwise.

Milln is Eyeshield 21 behind the wheel.

No, I meant your vid. I watched your speedrun and didn't realize it was you until the end.

Also, I already read your sad story of that snake elsewhere. I swear I accidentally stalk you online. I'm just minding my business, and bam, Chandler stuff appears. In an alternate universe, we're brothers or something. It's scary...

@Boom Cube: sure, why not! =D

@Jackie: YOU KNOW.... My collectors edition for 360 Catherine is still unopened. Since I no longer have a 360, I'm not sure what I should do with this. Do you want it, or should I eBay it? =o

Thanks for clarifying, haha. I read your post over and over trying to figure out whether you meant you finished someone else's video and saw me in the comments, or you saw me at the end of my own speed run, and I couldn't find out which it was. My bad. :P

And if you just happen to come across stuff of mine elsewhere that often, it probably just means we have really similar interests in games. On top of being brothers in an alternate universe, of course. :3

WHAT A WASTE. D: You should sell it so you can buy the game on PS3. Then play it. :D

You have no idea what some dudes would do to that pillow >_>
