LastStarSaviour Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 It's even funnier because Narukami's DP is named "Big Gamble"
Papstr Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 It is, isn't it. Man this practically writes itself. I'm gonna go write fanfiction about Jackie DPing various things.

Jackie Chandler Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 It is, isn't it. Man this practically writes itself. I'm gonna go write fanfiction about Jackie DPing various things. Pfffft, me and DPs aren't fanfiction material. Put together, we're at least novel-tier. Sup guys. Super excited about P4A coming out and hopefully being able to play something besides just KoF. Great to hear it! I'll be looking forward to getting some games in with you once it comes out. :D
Klein Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Pfffft, me and DPs aren't fanfiction material. Put together, we're at least novel-tier. 50 Shades of Grey says "wut?"
Jackie Chandler Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 50 Shades of Grey says "wut?" Also, in case you missed out on Newegg's P4A pre-order deal, they just put out a promotion for $10 off pre-orders of $39.99 or more using the code EMCNBNG58. It only works once per order, but you can use the code as many times as you like per account- so basically, just order one game with the coupon, check out, rinse + repeat. The best part is that Newegg only charges once your order ships, so you can place a bunch of pre-orders now at $10 off each title, and if a better deal comes up/you don't have the money/you're not interested any more, you can just cancel it. On top of that, pretty much every game has free shipping, the majority of which show up on your doorstep on the release date. So... Yeah. Stock up on your pre-orders now folks.

Volpe-de-Glacio Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Why does Japan respect so much stuff? It seems to me that some options characters have are being neglected for no apparent reason. Do they have some kind of aversion to pushing the meta in a certain direction?

Papstr Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) IMAGE Funny gif, but I don't think you got what I was getting at. Dunno if you've played Persona 4. :P EDIT: My god the wait is kinda killing me now. Tuesday needs to like. Hurry up. And then like a week after that, Darksiders 2. August is awesome. Do they have some kind of aversion to pushing the meta in a certain direction? What game are you talking about? In general, when two players play and they both understand each other's options in most situations you tend to play it more safe because any attempt at such options has a risk and it's even riskier to do such things if the opponent anticipates it. I don't see it as them respecting so much as trying to condition the opponent to make them easier to read. From just watching BB the Japs have no problem disrespecting with obscure situational punishes.
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) Well, take Elizebeth. She can apply some serious pressure or move around for whatever kind of spacing she desires while Thanatos locks the opponent down. Instead, I see Japanese Elizabeth's just stand there while they throw Thanatos out constantly and sacrifice hits for conditioning, but then never take advantage of that conditioning. I've yet to see an Elizabeth set up Thanatos to get hit then punish their opponent for it, even though it's easily possible. Edited August 4, 2012 by Volpe-de-Glacio
Seiki Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Have you seen other Elizabeths utilize Thanatos like that? Because it just seems like you are playing theory fighter with no actual experience playing the game.
Jackie Chandler Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 In fairness, aren't we all playing theory fighter at this point?
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Yes, Kurushii showed us it was possible in the challenge mode videos. So now I just scratch my head every time I watch an Elizabeth throw their Thanatos away for nothing, again and again.
LastStarSaviour Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 It is possible Naimat, i'll testify to that. Multiple of her persona moves can be moved out of by Elizabeth. As a matter of fact, if I were to comment I would say sacrificing Thanatos to get a whiff punish is one of her main strategies. It certainly seems more effective than sending him to suicide while Eli players sit back twittling their thumbs.
Papstr Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 In fairness, aren't we all playing theory fighter at this point? Someone should make a game called "Theory Fighter." The premise would be, two dudes discuss a fight. And then there's your fighting game. But it's like, in a thought bubble.
Seiki Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) @Star and Volpe: my point is this, how can you evaluate anything accurately unless you have experience in those same situations. I saw the challenge mode video and it doesn't model a mid fight scenario, i.e. the dummy isn't fighting back or doing anything that could prove that your theory works. Just because on paper Elizabeth can move freely is not enough evidence to prove you are right. You are missing a large part of understanding the game when you don't actually play it. There are probably more subtle reasons why they don't do those things and you don't see them because you havent played the game. I hate to theorize since I haven't played the game but, as an example, maybe they don't go in because the risk/reward isn't worth it because of her health? etc etc. I don't understand how you can feel like you are in a position to judge a person's application when you yourself have not applied and merely observed. @Chandler: It's one thing to theory fighter a game you have actually played and another where you assume to understand a scenario from just a spectator's point of view. What you guys are doing, to me, is like a kid watching a kung fu film and thinking he can now do all the flips, kicks, and shit the guy is doing just because he saw them. Edited August 4, 2012 by Seiki
Volpe-de-Glacio Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 I understand that coming from a spectator's perspective my input isn't solid, but my purpose is not to judge; it's to learn their thought process and/or possible limits to my character, and there seems to be little in the way of me understanding the factors at play here. I've already thought out a few possibilities, and they don't seem like plausible reasons to reject a potentially valid tactic. I'm not going to jump into theory-craft here, since it's rather irrelevant without more information, but from what is available to me I'm not seeing any drawbacks. Even if it is punishable, there's still going to be various ways to use it to enhance your mind games and get your opponent sweating. I'm also going to be discussing this with people who actually can get their hands on Elizabeth, and in three days plan on figuring all of this out for myself. I was originally questioning why Japanese players seemed to gimp themselves, because I'm certain this isn't the only time it's appeared to happen. I've heard of players outright refusing to use certain valid tactics simply because that's how they play, and it seems to be an oddly prevalent mindset.
