Nephinel Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Um, hello there Dustloop forums A couple of weeks ago I had gotten Guilty Gear X to expand my Dreamcast collection and to try something different from the "Street Fighter" style of fighting games. I read up on the series a bit and watched some vids, but the characters and story seem really interesting; something I can totally dig. Eventually I decided to download XX #Reload off the XBLA marketplace and now I'm setting my sights on Accent Core, since that's what everyone's playing now-a-days and it's conisdered the most recent and best version. I only have a cursory knowledge of the mechanics and stuff so I won't be tearing up any tourney scenes anytime soon (from what I've heard it's pretty hard to get into and I only know the very basic stuff from messing around in training mode/grinding it out in Arcade mode) Um, just a few questions: -What exactly are the "Medal Modes" for? I only tried them once or twice but haven't completed them yet. -Are there any major differences in gameplay mechanics between Accent Core and Accent Core Plus? -For that matter, I've been looking for a copy of Accent Core Plus for the Wii with no luck. Should I just settle for Accent Core on the cheap? thanks in advance I guess.... (goes back into hiding) (...I inquired back at Shoryuken.com and someone linked to this place in a reply suggesting I check out strategies and such) (...I felt a little bit lost after I registered and didn't really have the guts to start posting until now) (...I'll probably have more questions that don't immediately come to mind right now...) (I hope I'm not being a nuisance around here...)
Orrax Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 I'm not sure there really is any point to "Medal Modes" aside from just racking up points. There aren't really any gameplay differences between Accent Core and Accent Core Plus. The EX Characters are different; Kliff and Justice are only in AC+; and AC+ has story mode and a different survival mode. I think that's about it.
Delrian Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Yeah it was kinda hard for me to find a copy of AC+, and had to drive out a bit to get my copy of AC anyway. Get what you can get.
YoYoCheese Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 http://www.amazon.com/Guilty-Gear-Accent-Core-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B001REZLYI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1324660737&sr=8-2

alvare Posted December 24, 2011 Posted December 24, 2011 Dude I have AC+ for PS2 and I've played the EX characters for like ... 1h in 3 years. Oh and Kliff and Justice ... 3hs in 3 years. Really, just go for AC.
Nephinel Posted December 26, 2011 Author Posted December 26, 2011 Hello again Playing #Reload for a bit; what's the deal with Millia's QCB+HS? Most of the time it just vanishes after a second but it seems whenever the input is buffered I can control its direction for a bit :/
Delrian Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 It's one of millia's moves: you summon it up, while the summoning is happening you press directions and a button (I believe HS, but I don't play Millia). After the summoning is complete, the ball moves in the directions you inputted. Good for oki and stuff.
Hellscream Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 one difference from AC to AC+ is that some bugs were removed... something involving ino's aerial overdrive, that if done at the same time the other player does other overdrive, it'll reset the game or crash it or something. Nothing major, but if you get the chance, go for ACplus. =) and welcome! \o\
WolfCrimson Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 I think Zappa and Robo-ky also had some changes from AC to AC+.
Pestilence Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Heres the deal. JP version of AC on PS2 was riddled with bugs (like the i-no deal mentioned above) the US version had all the bugs fixed. Arc Systems made some public apologies and released AC+ as a way of saying sorry in JPN as a stand alone as append disc. It added a story mode, mission mode, kliff and justice (and their stages) and the ex characters gained a force break. Aksys released AC+ in the US with the addition of all the stuff in the JP AC+ and a 3 on 3 team battle mode. Seriously, normal AC is fine, especially for competitive play.
Nephinel Posted December 29, 2011 Author Posted December 29, 2011 Sweet then. I just ordered AC this morning; should have it in a couple of days.
Nephinel Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 Ok...back for a couple of questions: 1. What's a Guard Point? Anji has some attacks only useable during this "Guard Point" and at first I thought they were like Baiken's attacks where you could counter while guarding but it doesn't appear to be the case. 2. Not necessarily related but I've been thinking about picking up BlazBlue CS Extend soon...is there a real difference in fundamental gameplay from Guilty Gear to BlazBlue and will what I've learned from GG carry over?
Amadeus46Art Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Ok...back for a couple of questions: 1. What's a Guard Point? Not necessarily related but I've been thinking about picking up BlazBlue CS Extend soon...is there a real difference in fundamental gameplay from Guilty Gear to BlazBlue and will what I've learned from GG carry over? Some of Anji's normal moves have frames during which he is blocking high or low while the move is executing. These are "Guard Points". If you block an attack during these frames, you can use the specials. Baiken's attacks are "Guard Cancels", moves you can do out of blockstun. I don't know Anji's frame data off hand, you'll have to do a bit of research for that. As for transferring skills from GG to BB, I suppose execution will transfer over, but otherwise I'd say the gameplay between the two series is very different. Don't go into BB expecting it to be like GG, and vice-versa. I'd still say pick up CS:EX as it's probably the best iteration of BB so far and has smoothed out a lot of the problems the series had, but if you want Guilty Gear 3 you'll still be waiting.
Nephinel Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 Thanks...didn't expect such a quick response :P Figured I might as well see what BlazBlue has to offer...Seems there hardly any new discussion of Guilty Gear around here anyway. Been seeing a used copy of Guilty Gear 2: Overture, but hesitant to pick it up since I've always seen the series as a fighting game series, lol. Worth checking out?
Amadeus46Art Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Guilty Gear 2 is...different. I've always thought it looks fun, but I've never had a 360 to actually play it. I'd say watch some match videos on youtube, I know there are some people on dustloop that still play it and post their matches. I'm sure someone else could give you a better response though.

Unfortunately on youtube there is no real decent or new material, so...feel freee to ask in the Gg2 thread! It's not a fighing game, even if there IS moment when you play like one, but it's actually the more deep 3D action/strategy game ever created. (also play GGXX:AC, especially if you have the opportunity to play it offline)
Blade Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 @Nephinel: If you have non-gameplay related questions on GG story or plot, feel free to ask me.
doragonkoroshi Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 To reiterate what was said earlier, american ac is better for competitive play. Not just "fine". Hopefully there are some people in your area that you can meet up with and play.
Nephinel Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Oh, alright then. Hey, I just found out that there's a Guilty Gear game that was released for the Nintendo DS a few years back. Apparently it's a four-player brawler similar to Smash Bros. or Jump Super Stars rather than the usual 1v1 fare. I saw this on sale at GameStop for about $8 and was considering picking this up along with GG2: Overture on my next visit. Saw some gameplay vids on YouTube; looks pretty fun. Has anyone played it before?
Fenrir Werwolf Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Has anyone played it before? It's...garbage Developed by an unkknow american team, it's just a little fun, nothing more Too simpliefid. The port for advance or the ones for the wonderswan are much better
Mahouko Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 overture is pretty godlike, not given enough credit. Dust Strikers though is retarded as hell. Its like isuka on a much much shittier scale. Used to play it during lunch periods......
