Free Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 trying to practice slash for evo west and having some problems... damn #r online may have messed up my timing or my d-pad is breaking...but just curious anyone have data on her changes from #R to slash? Trying to play slash again it seems her dolphins take longer to charge. Like i want to do a vertical dolphin but i just jump in the air... ANyone know if the charge time for vertical and horizontal dolphins changed from #R to slash?
NinjaSYXX Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 so they confirmed Evo west 2007 to be GG/? flash told me that it was gonna be AC unless a gamebreaking glitch was found. edit: sorry for the derail. on topic: I never had a problem w/ May's dolphin use in slash, but then again, i only played slash like 2-3 times in total. It is the same iirc.
Free Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 yeah i read somewhere evo west is gonna be slash and evo world is AC. Still having problems charging dolphins, i think i charged it enough but i just jump in the air. probably my controller.
SpoinkX12 Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I am new to Guilty Gear, but I have played a lot of Urien in 3s and can do all his unblockables without much trouble. May is the character for me in GGAC, But I don't know any japanese and have little to no idea what you guys are talking about in some combos. First off, in that video, he is linking 6s into a vertical dolphin after OHK, but that seems impossible, i've been trying for hours... What does "FB" mean? OHK, 6HS, s dolphin, s, hs, s dolphin, 2p hs dolphin. "s dolphin" refers to a horizontal dolphin? Never use 2D, RR FRC for launch anymore it's no where as effective as FB H Dolphin. What does "RR" mean? Also, I still don't understand the concepts of where you begin and end charges in her combos, charging in this game feels so weird compared to 3s...
shinquickman Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 I am new to Guilty Gear, but I have played a lot of Urien in 3s and can do all his unblockables without much trouble. May is the character for me in GGAC, But I don't know any japanese and have little to no idea what you guys are talking about in some combos.Welcome to GG, and to the brave and few May players! Anyway, if you're having trouble with some of the notations we use here, go to: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=372 Also for any questions regarding May (how-to, gameplay, etc) go here: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1697 And don't worry, there isn't too much Japanese to be aware of, maybe a term here or there but for game knowledge, it's not necessary. Probably looking for some match videos requires that. Now to answer questions. First off, in that video, he is linking 6s into a vertical dolphin after OHK, but that seems impossible, i've been trying for hours... You mean the 6H into vertical dolphin combo after OHK, right? The 6H to vertical dolphin chain is a little weird, in that you have to do the cancel a little late. I think I answered that question in more detail ar the May help thread above. What does "FB" mean? FB means 'Force Break', something like EX moves in 3S. In most cases people refer to the Horizontal dolphin FB, which is May's main combo starter. "s dolphin" refers to a horizontal dolphin? In this case and most other cases, it refers to the S version of the vertical dolphin, What does "RR" mean? 'RR' is an abbreviation for 'Restive Rolling', which is 623S/H, both on the ground and in the air. Also, I still don't understand the concepts of where you begin and end charges in her combos, charging in this game feels so weird compared to 3s... For back/forward charges, it's not too hard. Just hold back or down/back as you're doing your combo. For example, to do 5S>2D>horizontal dolphin, you just hold back during 5S and down-back during sweep. For down/up charges, you have to charge in between hits. In the case of 5S>5H>S dolphin, first you do the 5S, and cancel into 5H. Then, while still in the 5S hitstop you begin charging down BEFORE 5H even comes out. Now AFTER 5H hits, you press up and S or H, whichever dolphin you're going for. So in overview, Press S, then press H, before H comes out hold down, H hits and then press up and S or H.
Nhur Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 welcome SpoinkX12 *__* im glad that you like may in AC and i hope see you more in this forums *__*, more info about diferences of GG and 3s Charge partitioning versus Charge buffering. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2910&page=2
Shoto Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 ..as I see it very seldom in matchvids I thought I asked here^^. How am I supposed to use the Jackhound (214D)? Are there any good ways to set it up? Or is the whole move that useless that Í should save the tension for other stuff (actually right now I manly use tension on FB HD to go in the VD loop from a sweep).
shinquickman Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 The only absolute use I have for Jackhound is after a command grab that you do when you're cornered. Unless you do Jackhound, you can't do a combo afterwards. Other than a random overhead or going for a last-minute kill after a knockdown, no, Jackhound doesn't have a good use.
Kyle Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 welcome kx12, shinquick right about Jackhound, I differ from him just a little though, if i land a corner OHK I will throw a FB-H instead, but to each his own right.
ahdes Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Hi i just started May. May i know how to launch people without using dust? Isit using vertical dolphin FRC? Then how do i catch after they are launched? HS HS D HS HS D Restive ROller?

A.B.A-can-do Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 Ok, I got this little hitch in my May domination plans. I'm thinking of ways to get May's IK to hit and I'm trying all sorts of ways comboing my opponent and going into it. Yet so far I'm not getting any satisfaction, I'm getting good amounts of Combo damage and winning, but I still can't get add that tiny little piece of flair with having my crew run up on it like they is a Victoria Secret sale with a price of zero. So how can I get my shit off is what I want to know, anyone have a setup that takes my victim right into the pirate whammy of The Crew?
Kyle Posted September 17, 2007 Posted September 17, 2007 IK Set-ups LOL. D, RC Mode Change, IK. Works only if they noob burst after the dust. CH 6P, 5S, 6P, RC, Mode Change, IK Works on some characters with DEEP counter hits. Can be mashed out of. They only Real applicable use I see is baiting a VV and punishing with IK. That's all I got, Sorry. FYI- Zappa's IK is a command Grab too. Anji's IK will cross-up after an Air throw. o.0
A.B.A-can-do Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 I'll give these a try, but i know what you about the bait and punish being the best solution. I don't dare touch Zappa, I rarely do anything other than seem his lock up and Anji is just well Anji o.O
shinquickman Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 IK mode, 5H CH, 41236412366H= Comboable IK.
Kyle Posted September 18, 2007 Posted September 18, 2007 IK Mode, CH Charged 6HS, SHD Whiff, 4123641236HS. It doesn't sound so unrealistic on their wake-up does it. LOL
7thFonon Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I just started playing guilty gear 2 days ago on my friends ps2 and instantly liked the fighting style. Ordered it online that same night. I have been looking up on strategies for May and was wondering what all the numbers are such as "4123641236HS" for. Sorry if this is a really basic question.
RisingStars Posted September 19, 2007 Author Posted September 19, 2007 this thread should help all your needs http://dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=372 and it's perfectly okay, i'm sure all the people here at dustloop are eager to help you.
PhaethonH Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 I just started playing guilty gear 2 days ago on my friends ps2 and instantly liked the fighting style. Ordered it online that same night. I have been looking up on strategies for May and was wondering what all the numbers are such as "4123641236HS" for. Sorry if this is a really basic question. The person who taught me Guilty Gear had one thing to say about May that still rings true today: if you learn to play May, you won't be able to play anyone else. No one else is as dependent on charging and jump-installing. This isn't meant to scare you off, just a bit of an old fogey's experience to consider. The closest thing I have to a second is Robo-Ky and I utterly suck with him (PS2 version, Maniac difficulty, Survival Mode, can't get past Lv 50; Lv 528 with May). Do realize that the learning curve for May is considerably steeper than most of the cast -- expect much frustration and many lopsided losses early on. TBH, the only reason I stayed with May is because she's the one with dolphins. Oh, and also, for some reason, the May forumers are much more amicable than the other characters'. That said, DOLPHINS!!! PS: Is it just me, or does the pointer in the smiley look like the guy has a bong? It's been bugging me for a while now.
7thFonon Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Thanks for the link, very helpful. Also thanks for the warning Phaethon. I usually keep only one or two characters in fighting games anyway. I guess this will just be in hopes that I get good with May then.
pulsr Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 With may you are pretty much always trying to avoid getting hit while making your opponent afraid of trying to hit you because of the CHs
aluna Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 The person who taught me Guilty Gear had one thing to say about May that still rings true today: if you learn to play May, you won't be able to play anyone else. I've been trying to play another char for three years now. And I still can't. I thought it was just me. lol though it still might be.
A.B.A-can-do Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I can play May and still play other folks. mainly A.B.A, but yeah.
aluna Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Yeah................... it's probably just me. thanks for stealing my hope of an excuse. j/k I get that the timing is somewhat late on the canceling of the 6HS into svd, but I've gotten like once. Is there any frame data you might be able to provide on the timing maybe???? I'm not really one for frames, but I can't really think of another way to find it. thanks in advance.
