How old is your Xbox? Because that's a first. O_o Mine's one of the first Elites that came out during Halo 3.

It did make that terrible shredding noise and the disc had a weird ring around it. It still worked though, so you might be able to idk buff the disc or something and it could still work. (My brother and I were scared to death when we heard the noise. Oh no, Our lives!!! Unless your disc actually broke into peices like you said, then you'll be out like 15 bucks.
