You are an evil queen, Miss Solar.

Hmm, okay.

Jesus, I feel funny for asking this but wtf so you do against Tao. I was lurking in the Mu vs Tao thread and all those tactics mentioned seem easier than done. Bad Taos are easy to beat but really good ones have me scratching my head or feeling depressed.

Mu:Tao is pretty even. The more experienced and skilled player will almost always come out on top. Understanding the matchup is one thing, playing it is something that takes a lot of time and practice to really get down.

I guess I need to spend lots and lots of time fighting Taos and Arakunes then. I feel like a puppy that gets kicked repeatedly. ;__;

I'll be honest, Mu doesn't have to do a ton of work against a lot of the cast, and can get away with some rather simple, direct gameplay. But against some characters (or at a higher player level) you really need to pull out all the stops and start doing the really classy stuff.

Yes, you're right. I need to be fancier with Mu and pull out all the stops against high level players, otherwise I'll get mowed down.

I would say more than anything the trick is to be very on point with all the different tools Mu has, and know when to apply them. Like a lot of people don't know about tk j.236a being as strong as it is for resetting pressure against barrier defense. Or stein canceling jumpins to create pressure resets after attempted mixup. There's even overlooked things, such as how her gatling options have self-generating mixup, (ex. dash 2a 6a 5b 6a).

I'm actually a really bad person to ask for advice on a lot of things to be honest. My reaction is just like "Yeah just apply this complex unique character mechanic that I found one night and never did a write up on" or "You'll be fine, just do this executionally tight optimal combo using extreme hit-confirm recognition and spacial awareness, and don't forget to use variants C/D at specific screen positioning".

when she starts pressuring you, block, and wait for a spot to use 5a, usually after a crossup if she's in the air. try it, eventually you'll get the trick. hitconfirm it with 2c, that way if the 5a is blocked, you might catch them off guard with 2c or the following 5c. On hit you do like 5a 2c j.c j.2c, sometimes you can even dash 2b and continue afterwards (into like 2b 2c 6c habacan 2b 5c 6c or something like that).

at neural, dodge her as much as possible and place a stein if she's out of drive range. don't try to poke TOO much, because tao has a lot of mobility options, and it's very easy to whiff and eat a CH into full combo. anti air with 6a if they get predictable. It can be a pretty frustrating matchup sometimes, but I don't play it often so I don't know the details that well.

I don't get to play against Tao that much either (only "real" Tao I've played was XDest like forever ago), but I can echo pochp's advice. Just be patient and block, and 5A where you can. Tao mixup seems to be mostly crossups with frame traps and throw/TRM; her high/low isn't that hard to block. Keep them honest at neutral with jC, 6A, and 2B for crawl. SoD, jA, and airthrow are good too. Tao has gdlk neutral and can stay on you for a long time when she gets in, but her pressure has a lot of holes and all it takes is one lucky CH to pretty much give you the round. Whereas if she CHs you with a drive you don't take as much damage and her "oki" with low j236B or purple throw enders isn't very strong.

2d xx 236a is super good in the tao matchup. If they get greedy you've got xx 623 and xx sod

Thanks for the advice guys. I just realized in the matchups I fought Neo that I wasn't mobile enough and made careless mistakes.

Neo huh? that guy is like a foul-mouthed fountain of knowledge -- if you can bear listening to him you can actually learn quite a bit about general game knowledge and tactics

Need to use my mic then. :keke:

Went to biweeklies after not playing this game for a while.

Played Mu, dropped all the combos.

Get annoyed, pick Noel.

Do everything perfectly.

Why? :V

People just salty they don't know the matchup, don't know how to bait DP, keep getting CH by 5C/2C/jC, and need to retake Spacing 101. Just keep feeding on their delicious tears.
