Sakaku Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Yep, TITS. <: The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky
Holmes Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I second TITS. There's also a buttload of JAPAN rhythm games if you're into that (3 Miku games, K-On, Taiko, DJMAX -which is actually KOREA but is pretty good-). But I must recommend Valkyria Chronicles 2 above all (sort of an SRPG, but encasing it in a genre doesn't really do it justice). That game led me to want VC1, which led me to buy a PS3 just to play it. Money well spent; it is now my all-time favourite game (and I've been around since the NES). While there are some spoilers if you play 2 before 1, I noticed they were pretty obvious and there wouldn't have been that shock factor anyway (save for one, I can't tell if it was only slightly hinted at or if I forgot about it). I find 1 to be superior in almost every aspect to 2, so I believe 2 then 1 is a better transition. Anyway, it is quite niche, but if it suits your tastes you're gonna love it.
Tari Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 1 is the best in the series so far. Hoping that if they make a 4, it's on the PS3 again, but chances are it'll be Vita or something. I'd be okay with that if I had a Vita and if we could output video from the Vita to a TV, but sadly, neither is true. Also hoping that if they make a 4, it'll go back to Welkin and co.
WolfCrimson Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 (edited) Valkyria Chronicles talk: Why aren't I in on this? I remember hearing talk that Sega 'might' do a VC3 PSP remaster for PS3, but that was a long time ago. SO any news about that? EDIT: Actually looked around the net and saw absolutely no plans to localize VC3... the premise looks better than VC2 (I mean playing as a bunch of army convicts is way better than highschool kids in my book). YukiBlue Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Downloading Valkryia Chronicles 2 now for the PSP. Give me more JRPGS and shit, Stuff like Monster Hunter.
Sakaku Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Oh yeah there are tons of classic jRPGs. Disgaea 1 and 2. Tales of Eternia/Phantasia. Persona 1, 2 and 3. Star Ocean 1 and 2. Breath of Fire 3. That should be enough shouldn't it?
Holmes Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) @YukiBlue: I didn't recommend much because of 2 reasons. 1- I thought that suggesting a tidal wave of games would be overwhelming (especially RPGs). 2- Seriously, play VC2 and forget about everything else. Anyway, God Eater Burst is a pretty good Monster Hunter clone as far as I know. Corpse Party doesn't really match what you're looking for (J yes, RPG no), but it's quite the experience with headphones and in the dark. I can't believe I forgot about this one: Mana Khemia. A real hidden gem, I've heard it's best played on the PS2 (but I thoroughly enjoyed it on PSP, except maybe for Pamela's voice). Also, Azumanga brofist. @Tari, WolfCrimson: Fellow VC lovers, yay! (...) kro_ Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Which should I get first? Xenoblade or Tales of Graces?
Chiizu Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Haha, why bother when you can get both, for *cough*free*cough*?
YukiBlue Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Valkyria chronicles is the shit man. Im really enjoying this! Lets gooooo-
mMarikom Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Which should I get first? Xenoblade or Tales of Graces? I say Xenoblade on principle that it has a larger chance of being an overly expensive limited release type game.
YukiBlue Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Just watched the "Uncut" version of Ichi the Killer, with all the added and extended scenes and such. It started off pretty grim at the start, but really... You know where you see something so disgusting and disturbing you kind of laugh to yourself in hopes it will go away? I did that for pretty much all of the film. Especially on the "Suspension" scene. Blergh. Anyway. Morning everyone.
Sakaku Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Which should I get first? Xenoblade or Tales of Graces? That's a hard one. If you want a traditional RPG with a refreshing battle system, anime style characters but a mediocre story and backtracking at its finest, go for Tales of Graces. I suppose you already looked up gameplay videos. If you ever played the PS2 Tales of Destiny remake, you'll probably know how the battle system works. If you didn't, let me help you out on this one: Every character has a certain amount of minimum und maximum "CC". Everything you do in battle consumes CC. Characters don't have normal and arte attacks like in other Tales games, but "Alpha" and "Beta" artes (they are called a bit different in the english version iirc). Alpha Artes are more or less normal attacks, but instead of just one normal punch/slash attack you have 13 different alpha artes you can execute by pressing (a directional button +) the alpha arte button. These artes follow a strict arte three though. You can chain up to 4 of these artes and they are arranged in 4 levels, so you can chain a level 1 arte to a level 2 arte, a level 2 arte to a level 3 arte and so on. Beta artes or the traditional artes the Tales series has. They consume a fair amount of CC, are most likely stronger but big combos using them are a bit harder. Another feature is the sidestep, where you can quickly cancel yor recovery or evade incoming attacks at the cost of 1 CC. The rest of the game is just a typical Tales way. That's meant in a good way (minus) story) btw. :3 Xenoblade reminded me a bit of a wRPG. You have these massive areas you can explore, real time changing equipment and a real time battle system that reminded me of a MMORPG. I didn't enjoy the game at first but it became very very very very good lmao. The story is probably the best you'll see in a jRPG of the current console generation. And these areas are impressive as hell, didn't think the Wii could handle them. The soundtrack is also top notch. The only thing I can really criticize is the battle system. But it eventually got fun too. But if you are going to buy both anyway, I'd suggest you buy ToG(f) first. It's shorter than Xenoblade. Is Xenoblade Chronicles finally out for you US people? Lol. :3
Kujikawa Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Or you could just buy Grandia 1 Or 2. Btw, for Xenoblades, did they keep the amazing British voice actors for the US release or did it receive it's own dub?
Sakaku Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 They get the british VAs or can just switch to japanese.
gamester Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) I'd say Xenoblade though, I can't say much on the Tales games tbh as I've only played Phantasia but from what I've played of Xenoblade, I've had nothing bad to say about it myself. Loved everything about it tbh. I do need to try and play some more Tales games though @YukiBlue: Sorry for the late reply, I'm from the South West of England. Edited April 12, 2012 by gamester
Kujikawa Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 They get the british VAs or can just switch to japanese. Sweet, I swear if anyone plays it in Japanese >_< British cast are so Godlike. I never found anything special about the game apart form the voice acting, though I haven't finished it. Graces was a lot more fun, IMO.
Sakaku Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Gotta hide somewhere where you can't find me then. x:
gamester Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Its Reyn Tiem and whatnot xD English VA's were great. Only changed to the Japanese VA's every so often for Wakamoto.
Kujikawa Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Gotta hide somewhere where you can't find me then. x: :O Your just jealous there was no German dub -.-
