zeth07 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Playing Carl wears out my D-pad im not sure if you were aware of how constantly mashing J2c-Allecan, Brio, Allegreto, using Carls Kara dash cancel, along with the other miscellaneous things Carl has Ada do at neutral, and of course more Brio will eventually cause the D-pad to exfoliate (Like my D-pad literally looks like the plastic has been burned). If you honestly believe a D-pad does not get wear and tear from playing Carl... >_> well I dont even know what else to say that. Playing Litchi wears out the D-Pad cause... Wait, have you ever played Litchi. Her standard corner combo consist of like 8 DP and QCF motions total into it. Lets look shall we 5b>2c>6d>Hatsu>Haku>Chun>Haku>Hatsu>Last Reach-A>5a>5b>5D>Chun>6d>5b>6c>Dp cancel~4> jb>jb>jc>Jd>jc>6a>2d>41236D >.< that shit burns my thumbs after one single combo. For those who dont know Haku: 236a Hatsu: 236b Chun:236c Last Reach-A: 63214-A I did not just randomly name out characters I hope this bit of information will suffice for my reasoning behind choosing the characters I did. I did neglect a few characters yes, however the ones I named where just the first that came to my mind. Bang however is not one, nothing he does is hard nor does it hurt my fingers like the characters listed. However I suppose I should not have spoken for everyone and I do apologize for that. Thanks. I appreciate the input, so I confirmed 3 things today: 1)Litchi combos are retarded as expected. (Check) 2)Play stick so your fingers don't hurt. (Check) 3)Play stick so your controller doesn't wear out. (Check)
Osuna Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Sticks wear out too, you should be prepared to maintain them. At the very least be prepared to replace the spring. I see a lot of people buy a new stick and then wreck the quality and point of having one.

Ctrlaltwtf Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I think mine may be having some minor issues with the 1 and 4 directions. But everytime I go test it in training it works perfectly. I've replaced the buttons twice so far though. I can't stand old and mushy buttons. They gotta be good and clicky for me.

I see a lot of people buy a new stick and then wreck the quality and point of having one. I know. I've had a HRAP3 since 08? and I finally started getting weird directional inputs with it recently. I don't blame the stick itself though because the cord coming out has been crimped and some small wires have been severed just from me setting it down with the wire like that so much and not caring. But I honestly don't know what is actually causing it so it could be something simple to fix inside instead. I have another stick though. With that said, 5+ years stick life sounds better than 1+ year controller life from what some people seem to be saying. And I'm one of the mindset that fighting games were meant to be played on an arcade stick, like it wouldn't be as fun to play Guitar Hero without the guitar, racing games without a wheel, Time Crisis without a gun, etc. But that's just me, to each his own.
Yggjrasil Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I actually share that mindset,Zeth. Fighting games just don't feel right on pad, especially Airdashers.
Osuna Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 1+ sounds wrong to me. I mean, there's a lot of variables there, controllers aren't made in a very consistent way, which is one of the many reasons sticks are preferred, but my pads (what good ones I can find) have all maintained quality better than any of my friend's sticks. I play grapplers almost exclusively too (It is also my favorite controller to use in other games too), so I can't help but wonder what everyone else is doing to their controllers that they die so quickly. Because of my condition I also occasionally drop my controller on the floor. Seriously how can you wreck one of those in under 2 years? My Guilty Gear controller still works, and it really shouldn't be with all I've put it through.

AchedSphinx Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 3 years now with my stick and still going strong.

Whenever I play on a analog stick on a fighter I always end up ruining the down direction on the analog stick itself. It gets really smoothed over, sometimes it's even so bad I make a "valley" on the edge of the material. Hard to explain in words. This was a really big problem for me when I played SC4 Yoshimitsu and had to input 2aB all the time at a moments notice.
EXonestar Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Lol I tried doing stick, I could not get a forward dash, air dash and damn sure not a IAD out to save my life. The story of my life (Only reason why BB is a pad game for me o_o)

Dreiko Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 On the matter of pads, I wonder, how many other people piano their face button inputs on pad? Everywhere I go people look at me like I'm nuts or something when I explain it and then they lose to it and somehow end up respecting it in a confused stupor XD. It's just a habit I had from growing up playing tekken with my dad during the ps1 era. It's how he played and tekken is kinda like, you need lots of dual-button presses in that so I just always played fighters like that...and it actually works well. The benefit of it is your fingers are always above the needed face buttons, you don't have waste time relocating your thumb for stuff like throw teching. With a little practice I even got used to moving my hand up to press R1 (which is my dust on GG) and it works just fine as long as you have the muscle memory for it.

I play like that. do you mean like , you use the buttons like an arcade stick. but use ur thumb for the D-pad?(ofcourse lol) I do that if so. I have a Hori pad for 6 buttons on the face of my controller ~

I have a Hori pad for 6 buttons on the face of my controller ~ Right, the left hand is my thumb, the right hand uses my index and middle finger. I use an original 2007 sixaxis cause I like the Dpad on it but yeah, I could work with a 6-button custom pad too if I needed to. I've used the thing so much that the Dpad has literally no resistance to it, is as soft as butter, this makes inputs really easy to do as long as you're precise and don't input stuff wrong. There's breaking your pad and then there's wearing it in. A properly worn in pad is a great tool...and it doesn't hurt your thumb as you use it either.
Ayashii Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I actually share that mindset,Zeth. Fighting games just don't feel right on pad, especially Airdashers. All depends on preference tbh

In UK they call me a freak for doing that ;( i agree with everything you said Piano style is sexy ;] After I realized that's my pad style i bought and tried the "WIRED" (Cus y;know how shifty tournament organizers are with sync'd ps3 pads) Hori Pad This one :- http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTYvTzAmZ_D2cScmRh5_bihZRA6oleSA_yHTOKew4xamFFVFVbY
kirbster Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I play BB on pad but my trusty sixaxis is beginning to fail on me... Turning off at random, unsyncing... So sad because I have a lot of trouble playing on any other pad, especially brand new ones. So I took that as a sign to try to learn stick again but so far it's brought me nothing but frustration lol. Pad feels soooo much more natural to me.
Adam0812 Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Once you get used to a stick nothing compares to the feeling of smashing out combos on it. Not being an elitist snob but it's just better an more satisfying.
kirbster Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I agree that it feels more satisfying. It's a lot of fun, especially if you have your own artwork on it. I just personally don't have as much control over my movement and that's what makes me rage lol.
EXonestar Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Use what you like. That is all. Ding Ding o_o I like this guy. That's The Bottom Line Folks !
TrueGunnerShadow Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 PSN needs a Join Session in Progress because so People with Private Slots can stop with the private slots. Can a netplayer netplay for once? Who's playing.
