Star-Demon Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 So, I was taking a walk today -clearing my head - when I thought of a good idea for a thread: Does the text on all of the character crests mean anything? There's a lot of it, and there are entire phrases placed in significant places. So - does it mean anything - and if it does - can we give ourselves the means to translate things in the BlazBlue universe?

Star-Demon Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 (edited) wip, but roughly it probably says :"to err is human, to forgive is divine" This makes sense because of her relationship with Valkenhayn, although I wouldn't rule out some possible connection to Ragna, since it's the stronger relationship. Or perhaps we have yet to really get a more intimate picture of Rachel's thoughts and feelings. EDIT: Lambda's "wings" seem to say the same thing. Lambda's has a lot of text because of it being NU's but with the addition of the idea engine on the top, which contains a lot of text. TD Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 maybe theyre being read wrong. look at the way it's formatted. you may have to read right to left, in columns, etc. the texts seems to closely resemble heiroglyphics in the way that the messages are conveyed.
Star-Demon Posted June 22, 2012 Author Posted June 22, 2012 Again - if Rachel's didn't make so much sense, I'd say "yeah, it's gibberish". but so much detail was put into so many things during CT's development that I wouldn't be surprised if ta least some of the text on the crests actually meant something. Using a cipher isn't out of the question, but I think it may have been much. Only way to find out is to just do it.
Blade Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 I can only speculate. Chances are small but the characters COULD be the same as Japanese/Chinese Keyboard layout. Like if they were typing Japanese things but only english text equivalents came out, so it ended up as random letter combinations. Dunno how Japanese > English font conversion works.
Star-Demon Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 (edited) I just came up with a theory: I was asked if this possibly meant something in Japanese, but I found that unlikely because of the utter incomprehensibility of the words. Inputs on Japanese typesets sometimes require multiple inputs. There may be something in the actual words themselves that suggests something else. (You hit buttons, you get a kanji) So the model looks like: English > ???? > Japanese OR: given BlazBlue has it's own language (highly unlikely) Meaningful language > BlazSpeak OR: JApanese > BlazSpeak Or some sort of combination of these. Star-Demon Posted July 9, 2012 Author Posted July 9, 2012 Nu-13: Nu's crest sets the stage for Lambda's - containing the same Phrase "To err is Human - to forgive, divine", but what is happening in both crests makes much more difference. Nu's sword (Currently untranslatable) is piercing the center circle of text, winged by more "Err is human" remarks. Many of these are symbolic.

Interestingly enough (like all of this is), The words around the "Sword" are the same as NU-13's. Both probably say the same thing! If the Ragna image is accurate (It appears to be, The side translations seem to work with mine. I think this guy had a better image), it says: "to err..." and "And it will be opened (to you)" - this is near the top. "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; (knock, and it will be opened to you.) " - This is Matthew 7:7 - it is on the dark circle on Ranga's crest, on NU's crest the circle is white. So someone's out there translating stuff. Feel free to appear!

(IME = Input Method Editor). Don't make me summon Circ. :P ANYWAYS: So far most of the crests appear to be gibberish with the Exception of Rachel's Ragna's, Nu's, and Lambda's. Ummm...Noel's is making a lot of sense. Gimme a bit. Will edit. "I look again towards the sky as the raindrops mix with the tears I cry" This is from an Unknown author. It's interesting that I can't find a source, and that anyone who uses it uses it either in a biblical sense of poetry or in holiday loneliness. Noel's birthday is on December 25th. I thought about using that font for my own projects. @Star-Demon: This is the closest I could get to a source for that quote from Noel's emblem: http://www.angelfire.com/trek/wild4joker/poem35.html Not sure if it was adapted to poetry or not.
