UltraDavid Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) James Chen and I are inviting Yu from Atlus and James Xie on UltraChenTV at 8pm Pacific tonight. If you haven't seen us do this before for games like Skullgirls, VF, and Soul Calibur, we ask people who know stuff about the games to come on and help us walk through the basics and then get into more intermediate and advanced stuff, including looks at individual characters. We try to be as comprehensive as we can and keep streaming until either we get too tired or there's nothing else to talk about. But an important part of that is knowing the right questions to ask, so I appeal to you, good members of DL, to let us know what you'd like us to cover. If you have any questions, just put them in this thread or send us an email at ultrachentv@gmail.com and we'll do our best to get to the relevant ones. If you wanna check it out, head over to http://twitch.tv/ultrachentv at 8pm Pacific time. Thank you! Edited August 7, 2012 by UltraDavid
Grrr Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 What is the estimated date for the release of the 360 netcode patch?
MashThat5A Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 You guys should cover movement, usage of meter, different types of bursts, autocombos and their benefits (added burst meter and huge meter gain bonus). Jumping and how you can't block for 8 frames after hitting up (startup + 5 frame vulnerability in the air). That's all I can think of at the moment.
Fluck Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 You may want to cover Same Move Proration cause that's a fairly ASW-specific mechanic that new players might not be aware of.
shtkn Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 don't forget how air blocking, throw breaks (for both attacker and defender), and air teching all give you your jump options back also talk about air backdashes have startup invul and air unblockables
MashThat5A Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 You may want to cover Same Move Proration cause that's a fairly ASW-specific mechanic that new players might not be aware of. That's definitely an advanced topic that may not be necessary for people seeing the game for the first time. Although I guess it's rather critical for Naoto players to learn about.
rocmox Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 What options does Kanji have for getting in on characters with good zoning capabilities?
Fluck Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 That's definitely an advanced topic that may not be necessary for people seeing the game for the first time. Although I guess it's rather critical for Naoto players to learn about. Well, it helps people understand how their combo routes work, which I find is pretty important.
Jyosua Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Yeah, if you covered that, you'd have to cover standard proration and frame data too, of which we have no information right now. Not only are these advanced concepts... but you'd have no real examples to show.
SansProtocol Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 You should also discuss what being in Awakening mode (35% health or less) actually means, since not many podcasts or gameplay overviews have noted the defense buff (all attacks do 62.5% damage to you) and unlocking of a Super that can only be used in that mode. Also covering ailments and what situations they are useful in would be helpful as well.
Zeik56 Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I think it would good idea to go into some depth into Burst's. Not just what each does, but some examples of when you might want to use them and possibly how/when to bait them and punish. You don't see Burst's much outside ASW fighters, but it's important to understand beyond just breaking combos.
SolxBaiken Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Go over air turns, until I saw it today on the Cross Counter & Machinma stream I was completely unaware of why I would want to do such an action (cross-ups!) also maybe going over doing front air dashes while turned around and their uses.
MashThat5A Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 You actually don't auto correct at all, so if someone runs under you, you need to air turn if you want to hit them.
Kuuhaku Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 (edited) Be sure to explain stuff like what All Out Attacks and R-Actions are. Cover rolls, short hops, and Skill Boost. Also, make sure you cover Status Effects (Rage, Poison, Confusion, Silence, Shock, Freeze, Charm, Fear) since they're a pretty big part of the game. Also, cover what the different exclamation points mean (one for when you get hit by low, one for when you get hit by an overhead, and one for where you're hit by an air unblockable).
