So I have been checking Azrael's frame data a little more, hoping there is something that could in theory work people are not using yet, and even though we already know 5BB is a really cool kid I don't think its being used to its full potential yet. We always see it going directly into the rekka series, but if I'm correct 5BB is actually +8 on hit. In theory we should be capable of linking 5A from it as long hitstun decay is not any less than -2. Now, I might be wrong. I am just going off the frame data that says 5BB is +5 and that it has 3 more hitstun than blockstun. Considering Azrael is a links character it makes sense though. This could be used to slightly boost mid-screen damage and get marks by doing something along the lines of 5A>5B>5BB>5A>5B>2C>6D\3C. Close to the corner we can also use it for easy hit confirmable juggles such as 5A>5B>5BB>5A>5B>2C>2B>Rekkas>Stuff. It will probably lower total damage a bit because it burns through the timer and 5A doesn't exactly got the most sexy proration, but its there. Any other potential links you guys might have 'found' while brainstorming that could be useful?
AMB Bakery Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I follow Zeth on twitter, so I saw/conversed with some of his tweets about Azrael not being as dependent on links as he originally thought. Which is pretty true, he really doesn't have to link all that much to get his combos working. Notable standing links I can think of are after 2C (2C, 2B; 2C, 5B) anywhere and after 3C or rekkas (on an airborne opponent) in the corner. Less-used but still important to know links are after non-weakpoint Hornet or Valiant which is usually just followed up by 5A. Other links include stuff like airdashes, e.g. 6A link IAD j.C or midscreen airborne rekkas into link IAD j.A. The point to all of this being that these "links" are less like the links that Hakumen or Slayer or a Street Fighter character uses and more just like the normal links that everyone has to do in this game. Regarding your specific example, I think what would make that link work is dependent on positioning. 5A>5B>5BB could push them too far away for follow-up. In that case, it could be used for frame traps against hella mashers or as fodder for teleport mix-up. I do like what you're thinking, though.
Lucalibur Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Yeah, I noticed Azrael doesn't seems to require the usage of links for his basic game as much characters like Slayer or the SF cast does. The ones you mentioned are probably the most often used ones worth mentioning, and for good reason. Between double weak points, 4K mid-screen, and corner carry, mastering those links is probably going to be close to a must have for Azrael players at a certain point. 5BB does push the enemy away quite a bit, but thankfully it also moves Azrael forward. That is the main reason why I think the link could be useful for boosting BnBs damage and making hit confirming easier. On a crouching enemy you can even skip the 5A link and go directly into 5B(Though its a bit harder), then go into 3C combos from there. I can see it being pretty useful as long you're good at confirming if you're in range for the link or not. Even outside of combos it can be used for frame trapping and whatnot because +8 is honestly really good for reseting. Now I'm thinking of the hilarity that is looping 5B>5BB off a 5B starter. 5B>5BB>5A>5B>5BB>5A>5B>5BB>5A...Skip 5A if you hit a croucher. Probably not very practical, but the mental image is funky.

On topic, I thought up some really ghetto corner roll-punish OS. While the opponent is in the corner input 421C. If they late neutral or back roll, they eat 2C. If they forward roll, you DUMP on them and follow up with 5B > rekkas, OD > 5D, etc. depending on the situation. I'm not sure what happens on emergency tech. Maybe just meaty 2C? Would have to test or see. This can only happen after ending a combo with ground drive normals and specials (non-weakpoint). I guess if you were feeling ballsy you could do the same thing with 214C for 100 p1 starter either way (if it hits). Edited May 22, 2013 by AMB Bakery

I had no interest in him when he was first revealed; then I saw his combos and moveset. Now he controls 45% of my overall hype for BBCP (50% Makoto, 5% real hawkumang damage). Plus, listen to how manly his moves sound; Blackhawk Stinger, Patriot Apocalypse, Tiger Magnum, SENTINEL DUMP. The dude is a fucking beast. It's the same way I felt when I first saw Makoto back in CS1. The ridiculous displays of strength, the intense hitstop on her drives (no longer there), the insane damage (only available in Overdrive), all shoved in a scantily-clad squirrel-size package. I loved watching other characters slide across the stage on their face and seeing her channel her inner-Kenshiro. Makoto's the waifu. Azrael is the bro you knock back a few drinks with. He's the guy that you want covering your back when you get into a bar-fight (that he inevitably starts). EDIT: I saw that match. I loled when Shiro walked back in surprise when he saw whiffed Spider Cannon. It's like he was trying to figure out the best way to end the match without getting hit by it and thought "5C". Putin Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 (edited) Right after the first trailer, maybe even after a couple of loketests, I thought Amane was the most interesting new character. But that changed drastically when the game came out. Azrael seems incredibly fun to play with, looks and sounds amazing, has hype combos, and is strong in the way all characters should be. His theme is also one of the few CP tracks I like. The one thing that still hypes me as shit even after all these months of watching CP matches, is his voice. Yasumoto did such a good job depicting violence through speech. Even the slightest ORA or KUSO GA especially during 2C brings a hype filled smirk on my face, and I often find myself grunting his lines during specials, supers etc. I can't wait to pick him up and start not giving a fuck, doing guardpoint Valiant and shit, 4K off throws with fullscreen carry, and adding as many DUMPS in corner combos as possible. --- Mod Edit: We are trying to avoid using words like that now so I edited that part out just in case. Dogura is the highest ranked at 17th dan and he made top 4 at ArvRevo. Shiro is a fun one to watch as well.

My favorites are Shiroma, Senchou, Mato, and the top two of course. Senchou is pretty entertaining to watch and Mato developed HOT COMBOS so yeah. EDIT: Wow, Hidekichi may have topped Astral with his custom tournament-finisher: rekkas (Leopard kills) > 5C > Crush Trigger. In essence he kicks them into the wall then punts them. Saki, or at least that's what was given whenever the videos of him appeared. I know it's kinda hard for you guys to do it, but if you just hover over the Profile link you can see the # for their profile so you could technically look and try to find someone with the same number (if you REALLY wanted to try and figure it out by yourself at least). I'm fortunate enough to be able to go into my post and just Ctrl+F the profile number and see if the player's #'s match up. Now if it was someone not listed that's another story entirely lol.
