He was too far away as well, sometimes distance will mess up d.5C connecting.

Not too big a loss, if your opponent is wary enough to be blocking the other side anyways, they'd have probably blocked low to begin with had j.4D still been low.

interesting. Well the more i see of these scenarios the more i believe her drive pressure string are more viable and safer and the bait factor looks good if you do it intentionally too. Pretty nice to pressure now a bit more without ppl basically mashing dp the slightest gap of frames given as often now in CP unless they trying to get hit or something.

It looks like 6D doesn't get grabbed by Hakumen's drive counter. Hakumen's drive responds to it like a projectile.

http://youtu.be/bjRbaeZwEKA?t=7m11s

thats not what happened here.

1. its 2D

2. he didnt use the grab he chose to use the enma follow up.

3. had he used the grab she would have gotten hit hard.

just clearing up this misinformation.

now to go into further detail:

since i see this too often, hakumen has 4 counters 5D standing counter, 2D crouching counter, 6D forward pushing counter and jD.

hakumens enma follow up acts as a normal attack with fatal counter properties so seeing as noel has invincibility on practically a crap ton of her drive attacks he got hit.

why he did this i dont know. he must be new.

EDIT: her drive is still a physical attack d.2D was, if you look closely, trapped in hitstop till he decided to risk enma.

So Hakumen can choose how he follows up Drive? Or at least can do Enma through it? (guess we shoulda noticed the magatama loss...)

yes he can either allow for the grab, its blockable but will counter most physical attacks minus a few under certain conditions, or go for a FC enma follow up which releases the character from hitstun after a certain point.

grab is safer and gives minimal reward, enma is riskier but gives a great reward (star dependant)

Does whether or not Hakumen grabs on his drive depend on range or on attack type?

kinda of.

i really dont know what you are asking but ill explain to the best of wat i think im reading.

his drive will grab at certain ranges specific to the drive itself as each drive has a specific grab range. 2D can grab whats directly infront of it and slightly above it, very slightly.

5D has decent reach and can grab further than 2D and can grab slightly above his arm and below it. 6D has the longest reach and can grab below it and a little bit off from the hand. but at a specific height not above it. jD can grab anything that hits it, it is not escapable like the rest unless jD catches a DP since its the only drive that traps you in true hitstop.

now wether or not you get grabbed has alot to do with a few things,

did he counter a physical attack or a projectile. physicals most likely no you wont escape, projectile grabs can be blocked but they are unpunishable.

was your attack just about to recover before it got grabbed? chances are with certain normals you can block the grab if your attack recovers before his grab comes out.

or does your attack have 0 landing recovey? then if you land before he grabs you, you can block it.

2D stops lows and mids and causes switching. 5D stops mids and high attacks and also causes side switch. 6D now has 10-17f start up (in debate) and causes push back with spinning status. jD has true hit stop and causes them to fall in front of you.

Ok thanks that was exactly what I was asking.

Correct me if I'm wrong, so it sounds like Hakumen's drive does the following:

-D Countering a max range physical poke (ie: Mu's 5C(I think its physical)) > Hakumen might not grab

-D Countering a projectile move done at point blank range (ie: Noel's Chamber Shot) > Hakumen will grab

you got it!

Most peoples downfall is that they dont pay attention, if you pay attention youll be fine.

As far as I can tell if Noel would have followed up her 6D with ANY other drive she would have gotten destroyed, but since she used d.4D, she beat Enma.

Noel's 6D did indeed trigger Hakumen's 2D, but as PsychoMantis said, d.4D's invuln beat out Enma.

Well well well i see they started to emphasize a bit more corner push in some of these combos and ways to use 5C > j.D as a red beat. pretty good stuff just wondering if most ppl here can see it in case they dont have a nico account.

I'll go post it in the CP Video thread so someone can upload it on youtube.

Yeah should. But hey you never know _-_ anyhow i was concerned about it because i wanted to post links to certain points in the video to further discuss specific things about the combos and other potential stuff we can do, but with video footage on demand at the convience of a click away. ^_^

Oh, man I'm so hyped for CP. I wanna play Noel with her new badass design so bad! It's killing me!

I'm just beginning to study her CP combo theory and wanted to ask if the 2BB oki is available midscreen from many of her confirms or not. I seriously don't want to be forced to end combos in Bloom Trigger this time around.

Disregard, just watched Kou's combo video again and saw he had several paths for it.
