I don't quite understand what you mean by "overused".

But the most popular character in pretty much all levels is Ragna lol.

Lambda is quite popular and Noel is very beginner friendly.

Don't forget Tager, he is the bane of beginner level play.

Jin and Hakumen pop up quite often as well.

In my opinion BB has a few over/underused characters, and a fairly even balance across the rest of the board.

Probably most overused would be the obvious Ragna. Most underused is definitely Arakune.

I hardly see Hakumen's at all. But yea, in terms of overused it's obviously the protagonist trio with Ragna(and Jin to an extent) being the most prominent. I've seen a few Tsubaki's here and there, and Lambda's as well.

It gives you an idea of how "popular" characters are to use in-game, and nothing really to do with how good or bad they are at any level (or tier list).

The only time that'll really change is when you get to the very top level when some players WILL decide to pick high tier characters more often. But it sure doesn't stop some players from picking the characters they like anyway.

If you want to check yourself for the most recent numbers, just go online and look at the ranked listings for each character and just look at the bottom to see "last place". That'll give you the number of players who at least tried the character on ranked, which gives you a "usage popularity" in a general sense.

I'm not really sure that's a good metric though; Sure, people might try a character once/twice, but that doesn't mean they will then settle down and actually PLAY them. I've tried a bunch of characters, and most of them aren't even in the list of characters I might consider playing now.

I could write down rankings of who I see all the time, but that would just be a sample of "what people who have good connections to me play" (I'm pretty sure that I fight WAY more Mu players than most folks do.) so that's probably not useful either. I think all parties agree that Ragna is the runaway most common, but below that, I really dunno. I feel like I see just about every character.

Even if the numbers only purport the occassion of them being used rather than that of the amount they're used, wouldn't more people trying them out within actual matches mean that there is a greater chance of the highest - ranked being used consistently?

I don't think so. Litchi and Carl are characters that a lot of people won't even play once because they have no idea how to play them and aren't interested, but they both have a lot of diehard players who main them at mid-high level. On the other hand, Relius and Hazama are cool characters that aren't too tough to pick up (at least at first) and everybody wants to try out, but I honestly don't think a lot of people stick with them. Relius should be bottom 3 most played characters easily.

And yeah, my vote for most overplayed goes to Lambda. She's obviously not the most played, but there are still too many of her.

Hmm, fine point.

Still however, within general, the list does tend to place easier (Although not neccessarilly better.) people first (Ragna, Jin, Noel.) first and the more technical (Carl, Litchi, Arakune.) later. And, within general, the less complex tend to be chosen at every level of play (Just look at how populous the Ragna and Jin forums are compared towards Carl.). Really, the best estimate we have is to combine these figures with that of the Character's matchup charts to get a picture of the game at higher levels. Of course, liking the Character within question plays a part, but seeing as that's a completely subjective feeling, it is far less measurable than the other two parts.

CSE made the most common / easiest character in the game also the strongest in the game. That kind of murdered variety on XBL EU.

There was a poll on the BB wiki on mains a while back. I guess it was a good representation of what the mains were of people who "loves" BB. I imagine only very interested people would go on the wiki.

I'm not sure how to find that poll now though. I'm gonna go off my photographic memory. It was something like:

Ragna : over 500 votes

Noel, Jin : over 400 votes

Rachel, Hazama : around 300 votes

Lambda, Hakumen, Platinum: around 200 votes

Tager, Tsubaki, Relius, Taokaka, Makoto, Arakune, Bang :around 150 votes

Litchi, Mu, Carl, Valk : around 100 votes
